"Bring him in, Taurus!" Taurus emerged moments later, carrying a comatose Pisces bridal style. "When will he wake up?" he asked nervously, looking worriedly at Pisces. "I think... I think we can wake him up, Taurus."
"What do you mean?"
"When Pisces was linked to Scorpio and she took him down, did you join the telepathic link?"
"Yeah, I think so..."
"Well, when you saw Pisces, what did you do?"
"I was angry... I just wanted Scorpio to go to hell, and I guess she did... I screamed."
"You screamed... I think I've got it, Taurus-I just need to check."
I hurried toward a bookshelf, opening one of Pisces' journals, titled 'Psychics'. He had made numerous notes within it, adorned with illustrations. "Aha! Here it is: Sirens are, of course, originally psychics, and extremely powerful psychics at that too. They can use their telepathic powers to murder a fellow psychic from within, toying with their mind to set their mental state of being into the fires of Hell. However, depending on the strength of the psychic in question, it can take a while for one's physical being to be transferred into Hell.
"This is where a strong emotional reaction brought about by a psychic stronger than the siren in question can, in the rarest circumstances, pull through the deceased's mental conscience out of Hell and plunge it into a dimension created by their own abilities. They can also pull the physical being out of the conscience in which it has been left to slowly fade into Hell, bringing it back to Earth. Once this has been done, the now-transferred psychic can rejoin their body. Theoretically, they will sink into a coma until the dimension created by the other psychic in question is destroyed by a single, powerful emotional reaction."
I grinned. "Sounds easy enough." I frowned. "Taurus, I need you to pull me into your subconscious. Just close your eyes and imagine opening your mind." Taurus nodded, shutting his eyes. I took his hand, feeling myself being pulled in...
"Hello, Taurus. Where are we?"
"We're here. This is where I sent Pisces."
"No, where is this? What does this place mean to you?"
"Well, this... this is my Gramps' house. I loved my Gramps so much and I lost him, and all I could think of for weeks to come was this house. I... I think I tried to trap him in here in my brain, but it didn't work. He ascended to peace."
"Did you trap Pisces here?"
"I think so... All I could think of was the house, and how I'd tried to peg Gramps to it when he'd died, and I guess it just happened."
"Okay. How do you feel?"
"I feel too much right now. I feel sad, angry, and, strangely, at peace. I feel excited, agitated, anxious-you get the gist."
"Okay. What room of the house are we in?"
"This is the living room..."
"That's a nice window there-what do you see when you look into it?"
"I see Pisces-and I see Gramps. But they're not together. I'm stuck between them-I'm so confused-"

"Let it out!"
"What's happening? WHAT IS GOING ON? AHHHH!"
"T-Taurus?"
"You idiots! How did you let him get away? This is not the kind of help I paid for! Do you realise what-" They fell to the floor and behind them stood Aquarius, dressed in a crisp tuxedo. "Well, well, well, dear, we meet again."
"Do you want to be captured, Aquarius?"
"No. I didn't even want to come, but my dear sister has sent me here."
"Why?"
"Remember when you shot us with that rather unpleasant toxin? We would've died with that venom in our blood, so Libra sent for my sister, Ophiuchus' blood. She's the first ever hybrid, and the only hybrid, meaning her blood can cure werewolf-toxin induced problems. The only complication is that she escaped our capture once her blood had been extracted before we could dagger her and put her back to sleep. She's heading to this place to make more hybrids."
"You mean she wants to make me half... that?"
"Yes. My sister is busy trying to capture Ophiuchus. She has bribed a lackey into doing her work... you may have heard of some Sagittarius?"
My heart sank. Had she really chosen to side with these horrible people? They would just use her and then murder her, unkind to even their own kind...
"How dare you take Sagittarius!"
"She came voluntarily. Let's just say Libra made her a rather... generous offer."
My eyes widened. "You don't mean-"
"An all-you-can-eat buffet awaits her every night once she has completed the work which is expected of her."
"You have to stop this! She's-she can't control herself, she'll do herself and those people too much damage..."
"Oh, you don't have to worry about her conscience. You see, Sagittarius has flipped her switch."
"Wha-"
"Today, however, you will help me find Gemini De Vere. Sagittarius let slip that he attends the local high school."
Aquarius revealed a stake. "Tonight, I finally finish him!" I smiled. "This should be fun."
.....
"Come on, he can't be far..."
We had arrived at a rather rundown restaurant, searching for some pale, green eyed boy according to Aquarius' description. "It's been 500 years... I got his friend, Willem, didn't get him, he escaped, the brat, been trying to kill me to get me off his trail ever since..." Aquarius smirked. "And there-" His expression changed dramatically. He was now growling, looking at Gemini with a brunette, his lips on hers, her arms around his neck- "Libra." Aquarius pushed the two apart. "SISTER! How could you betray me like this? Sneaking around with my enemy?"
"Gemini is not an enemy! He is kind, and just, and worth loving." Beside her, Gemini blushed. "HE IS MY ENEMY! YOU CANNOT GO FALLING IN LOVE WITH THOSE WHO HAVE WRONGED ME!"
"Brother, I have not loved anyone for over a thousand-and-a-half years besides you and our brothers. So I can tell you right now that, while I am not in love with Gemini yet, I think you should spare him." Aquarius' rage only grew. "I WILL NOT SPARE HIM, OR YOU!" Libra turned toward Aquarius.

"Bring it, brother. I've killed you before; I can do it again."
"Do not act as though that guilt will not haunt you forever."
"Maybe it shall, but I have the rest of my immortal life to think about that. I will not let you kill Gemini."
"Move, or die with him."
"Oh, dear brother, your temper always was your greatest downfall."
"Ophiuchus?"
Ophiuchus did not at all look like her siblings. In fact, it seemed as if she'd specifically altered her appearance so she bore no resemblance to the rest of her family. The only similarity I noticed was her porcelain skin, which was precisely the same shade as Aquarius'. She had dressed herself in a blue blazer dress made with some lavish-looking velvet-like material. Walking up to her sister, she towered over her, the obvious height difference between the two evident even though Libra was in preposterously high heels.
(Ophiuchus' look)
"Yes, brother. It is me. I came straight here, save for a shopping spree and a long-due makeover. Remember, sister, when I had the same brown hair as you?" Libra simply stared at Ophiuchus, boggled. "Now I only bear a resemblance to you, Aquarius. Tried a fake tan but I looked horrible..." Ophiuchus whistled. "In you come, Wolf Boy..." A tan, brown-haired boy walked in, fuming. "I have things I need to do, places I need to be-"
"Ah, Leo. We meet again." Libra smiled. Leo returned the smile weakly. "Now, while I was getting my makeover done, I happened to trace down the doppelganger line you used to make me a hybrid, and also located her, extracting some of her blood." Ophiuchus turned toward Leo. I noticed the goblet in his hand, filled with red liquid I knew to be blood. "Drink." He looked down at the goblet, terrified, before gulping the blood down in one go. "Attaboy! Now... take this dagger and slice your throat." Leo looked terrified, shaking from head to toe as he brought the dagger to his throat, pushing it further into his skin...
"NO!" Libra jumped forward, taking the dagger from Leo. Aquarius turned toward Ophiuchus, brandishing a dagger. "Time to go back to sleep sister." He sprinted forward, attempting to stick it into Ophiuchus' neck but she swerved just in time, taking Leo by the scruff of his neck. Libra dived toward Leo, seizing his legs and tugging him out of Ophiuchus' grip with Gemini's help. "Take him!" Gemini nodded at Libra, picking Leo up and causally throwing him over his shoulder before breaking out into a sprint so fast he was not visible. "It's okay-I got another werewolf right here." Ophiuchus picked up a phial of blood. "Drink!" she screamed, thrusting it at me. Unable to stop, I raised the phial toward my lips as slowly as possible.
"ARIES!" A blinding force slapped the phial out of my hands. It fell to the ground, shattering at my feet. "Who-" The force stopped. There stood Sagittarius, smirking. "You thought I'd just let you die like that?" she asked. I laughed. "Now come on-let's take her down."
.....
"Please... let me go... I will not make any hybrids, I just want to see the world..." Libra rolled her eyes, holding the dagger against Ophiuchus' throat. "You've had a millennium to do just that." And with that, she plunged the dagger into the side of her neck, silencing her. Libra turned toward Aquarius. "Brother, please, spare Gemini. He might have escaped you, but you can see he is good. He helped us today." Aquarius grimaced, finally nodding.
"Fine."
Sagittarius seemed slightly troubled. "Are you okay?" Libra asked. Sinking into a chair, Sagittarius began to weep. "Clearly not," Aquarius mumbled before rushing toward the kitchen for some tissues. "I killed so many people... I'm a mass murderer, I deserve to die..." Aquarius rushed back in, looking bewildered. "Well, if it is death that you wish for, you might as well go outside." He exchanged glances with Libra. "The hunter has arrived."
"Capricorn, she might be a vampire, but that doesn't mean she has to die-"
"Yes, she does." I continued to walk toward the cafe, my face set in determination. "Capricorn, no! You don't even know what to do-you're putting yourself in danger..." I turned suddenly, white-hot rage blinding me from my sense of judgement. Twisting Cancer's neck, I threw her at the ground, struggling for breath. Rushing forward, I bust open the door to the cafe, brandishing a crossbow loaded with wooden arrows. A single stake was concealed up my arm. "Vampire!" I snarled, noticing the girl I had seen at the food court the other day. She had her head buried in her hands. "Just do it, just kill me, I can't take this pain..." I frowned. "What?" She let out a sob. "I killed so many people... I wish I could just go back in time, stop being such an idiot, actually make use of my life..."
Her friend stood in front of her. "Sagittarius, we'll fix you, just- NO!" Without thinking, without assessing the situation, I plunged the stake into her friends heart, driving it all the way through. She fell to the ground when I realised she was, in fact, a werewolf. "Oh, my god..." I took a shaky breath, stepping away. "HOW DARE YOU?" The man in the tuxedo lunged for me. I removed the stake from the werewolf's heart, brandishing it once again. "YOU-YOU MURDERED AN INNOCENT PERSON! SHE KILLED VAMPIRES! SHE WAS ON YOUR SIDE, YOU IDIOT!" I plunged the stake into his heart, hoping to permanently silence him. He, however, simply laughed, removing the stake as if nothing had happened. "I'm an Original Vampire." His sister moved closer, frowning. "Hunter, who did you injure outside?" I gasped. "Cancer... no..." She left, a blur as she ran past.
Sagittarius stood, her silence deadly. The stake clattered to the ground as she stepped over her friend's dead body. "Now, you die." And she plunged her hand into my chest, wrenching my heart from my body.
As my physical being fell to the ground, I chuckled, looking Sagittarius in the eyes. "Hello, vampire. I hope you're ready to endure an eternity of torture." She let out a blood-curdling scream, clutching her head.
That's what you get.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week. If you want to read it all ahead of schedule and get access to some premium-exclusive bonus content, the entire book is available for purchase; links to the appropriate storefront pages will be posted at the end of each chapter.
