《Bakugou X Kirishima's sister (Reader)》Chapter 23

You had been right about your beach day being the last time to have fun before finals. Come Monday morning Aizawa stood in front of the class to inform you all that you only had a few weeks to prepare for the written and physical tests. He didn't specify what the physical test would be but to prepare for anything that had been covered this year or last. The remainder of the day everyone was buzzing about finals, studying and all around worrying about passing. Mina, Denki and Sero complaining to your study group about the classes they were struggling with.
Your days had become a routine, going to class, training, studying, sleep, repeat. In the whirlwind of preparing both mentally and physically for the end of the semester you rarely had any alone time with Katsuki. Even if you had the time you knew it would still be impossible to see him, as he was spending all of his time on schoolwork and extra training. Your study group had been staying up, studying later and later as time began to run out. In the beginning when you would finally disperse for the night Katsuki would meet you in your room, but as you fell asleep, he would stay up continuing to look over notes and reading textbooks. It didn't take long for him to stop showing up entirely, not wanting to keep you up. But if for whatever reason he did spend the night in your room he would be gone before you woke up, starting his day in the gym or the student training rooms.
In all honesty you couldn't comprehend how someone could work so much but you knew he was reaching for the top and you wouldn't be the person standing in his way. The days began to blur together and with a week left before the exams you found yourself studying in your room with Jirou. She had spent some time studying with Denki but because he was so behind in math, she really didn't have a chance to work on the topics she didn't understand. You weren't the best at math, but you knew it well enough to help her out on the things she was struggling with. The two of you had been working for a couple hours and you had completely lost track of how many problems and definitions and notes you had gone through.
You let out a groan your head dropping into your notebook. "I'm so done with all of this; I could not care less at this point what grade I get on those exams."
Jirou couldn't hold back her laugh at your complaints. "It's not much longer and then it'll be summer break, you got this."
Lifting your head up to look at her you asked her what had been on your mind for a while, "What do you think the physical test will be?"
She was working on a math problem as she answered, "I actually have no idea."
"What did you guys do last year?" you'd hoped for a hint in what UA would throw at you. The school you had gone to last year was a great school, but it definitely didn't have as intense of a curriculum.
Stopping in the middle of the problem she finally glanced up at you. "That's right you weren't here last year. The final we had before summer break last year was pretty intense, we had to work in pairs and either take down a teacher or escape the arena we were in."
You could only stare at her in response. Going up against the UA faculty? First year students going up against Pro Heroes sounded insane. She only chuckled in response, knowing what she said sounded crazy. The two of you went silent then, returning to your studies only stopping to ask a question every once in a while.

Your door opened, tearing you away from your homework, "Sis you have to tell me when you're not going to show up, you know I need help with math." You brother closed your door and joined you and Jirou on the floor.
"Bakugou's better at math, why didn't you just ask him?"
"Between you and me," he leaned closer to you like he had some secret, "You are much nicer when it comes to teaching."
Rolling your eyes at him you gestured to his homework, "What do you need help on?"
The three of you resumed working and before long Mina showed up, followed by Denki and Sero. Each of them complaining that Bakugou was being more of a jerk than usual. You weren't the smartest in your class, but you did well enough and you had become someone that your friends felt comfortable enough to ask for help.
It didn't take long for your room to begin to feel overwhelming, so many people in such a small space. You excused yourself going downstairs to get a water, your brother yelling for you to grab him one too on your way out. You looked through your phone as you walked towards the kitchen, your agent making it clear you needed to fulfill some ads and sponsorships once summer break started. You rolled your eyes opening the fridge and pulling out a couple water bottles.
Leaving the kitchen, you noticed Katsuki buried into his notes at one of the tables. You walked over to him; you weren't sure he picked up on your presence. You tossed one of the water bottles at him, he made no move to catch it until the last moment.
"I thought that was going to hit you," you laughed.
"Then why'd you throw it?" he grumbled at you, still looking at his notes.
"Oh, you know, just keeping you on your toes." You paused, watching him as he read his notes, highlighting and writing whatever seemed important. You walked around to where he was, stopping next to him and leaning against the edge of the table. "So, what's going on with you? Everyone's saying you were being extra grouchy today."
He scowled, "It's not my fault they can't keep up."
You smiled slightly, "No, I guess it's not. Just lighten up okay?" you squeezed his shoulder as you pushed away from the table. You didn't get very far before he grabbed your hand. Turning to look back at him, you had a curious look on your face.
"If they're bugging you too much you know you can send them back down here."
"Well thanks for the heads up, but I don't think they'd be too happy with me if I sent them back to Oscar the Grouch."
"I am not-" you could hear the annoyance in his voice.
"Kidding," you laughed as you squeezed his hand before letting go. You swung by the kitchen grabbing another water before heading back to your room.
It wasn't long before your time for studying was up and your written exams began. With how much time you had spent preparing with your friends you felt like your tests had gone really well. As the week progressed and your class began to finish each subject, Katsuki slowly returned to his usual angry self. On the night before the practical exam, he had shown up at your dorm, figuring that you couldn't really study for a physical test. He walked through your door, flopping on your bed, he pulled you to him and buried his face in between your shoulder and neck. You had noticed that he looked completely burned out the second you saw him.

You didn't say anything, just let him rest against you, as you ran your fingers up and down his arm he had wrapped over you. Your thoughts focused on tomorrow and what it could bring. During this semester you had definitely noticed a difference in your quirk and technique. So, you weren't nervous about if you could do well during the test. It was the unknown of what the test could be that made you uneasy. You couldn't prepare for it exactly and you knew that's what life would have been like as a pro but you couldn't help but dwell on the possibilities of what if.
You were so lost in your thoughts that it took you a moment to realize that Katsuki had fallen asleep next to you. Checking the time, it was only 6:30, he must have been exhausted. While scrolling on your phone you could hear his even breathing next to you, he'd periodically murmur something in his sleep or subconsciously tighten his arms around you if he thought you'd moved to far away. With a mixture of the warmth from his body and your own exhaustion you couldn't fight the sleep that took over and soon enough you joined him, falling asleep in his arms.
The next day your class met Mr. Aizawa at one of the many training grounds on campus. To your surprise class B was there as well.
"I'm sure you're all wondering what your final practical will consist of." Aizawa stood in front of your class with Vlad King. "We've decided to keep it similar to last year but with a twist. You will be working with a student from the other class. You will be assigned at random and the 'villain' you will be assigned to go against will also be assigned at random. This year instead of facing one of the faculty members, a few of the pro heroes made themselves available to us for your exam."
Pro heroes? That wouldn't be to much different than the faculty, right? It's not like they could get the best of the best, right?
"As for the assignments, we will call you at random, when it's your turn to take the practical, we will then let you into the training grounds. You won't know who the pro hero will be or where or what they are stealing. You must either apprehend them or recover what they have taken. Good luck, let's begin."
They made it seem so simple, but you knew it wouldn't be. By the way things were set up this didn't allow for strategizing beforehand. This would make you think on your feet and would feel more like a real-world situation. You were second years after all and you all had had experience with villains, so why wouldn't they make it more like the real thing.
One after another your classmates went into the exam, Bakugou unfortunately was paired up with Monoma. The two faced off against Best Jeanist, proving UA did bring in the top heroes. At some point during the exam it seemed like Bakugou threw Monoma in a fit of rage, but unbeknownst to you and the rest of the class it was part of their strategy to allow Monoma a chance to use Jeanists quirk. This made Jeanist's hero costume a weakness, which they utilized to their advantage.
From what you watched so far, the exam looked to be more about strategy, working together and making quick decisions. The pro heroes weren't working at their full capacity, but if you could use these three components together you could pass the exam.
Time continued to pass and finally Aizawa called your name, along with Shinso's. You both walked up to Aizawa, before he gave you a quick run down of what to expect.
"I'm starting to think these aren't so random," you chuckled as you walked with Shinso.
"Alright, once you both go in the exam will start. You have 30 minutes to apprehend your villain or the object they've stolen. We've told the Pro's what your quirks are but that's the only information they have. Good luck." Aizawa walked away, letting you both enter the fake training city before you.
"Who do you think it is?" Shinso asked as you both made your way further into the city.
"No clue," you spoke as your eyes wandered around you, taking in each building.
A loud ringing a few blocks down brought you both out of your thoughts. The two of you rushing to the sound, only to find a jewelry shop with a broken window.
"Which way do you think they went?" Shinso asked, inspecting the window and the broken glass.
You looked inside the shop, spotting something red on the floor. A feather. Did you both really have such great luck that you'd end up with that bird hero, you thought to yourself sarcastically. Picking up the feather you showed it to Shinso.
"My guess is he went up."
A small gust of wind hit against your face as Hawks floated above you both. "Nice observation, but you're going to have to do more than that to catch me." And just as suddenly as he appeared, he flew off.
"Wait," you shoved your hand in front of Shinso, "There's more to this then just catching the guy. We need to come up with a plan."
"Alright, well I think my quirk is out, if he knows it he definitely wont answer me. We might have a chance with yours if you can grab him."
"True, but just because I have him doesn't mean I have all of his feathers, he can still stop us with those." You paused thinking. "Wait, Aizawa said he knows our quirks but that doesn't mean he knows everything we have at our disposal."
Shinso glanced at you perplexed, "What do you mean?"
"I don't think he knows about that," you pointed to his mask. "If I can get him talking, maybe we can trick him into answering you."
"It's worth a shot."
You both went to another building, working out the plan before you confronted Hawks. Once it was set, you went out searching for him. It didn't take long for him to once again float above you, taunting you like a cat with a string.
"Come on guys, are you even going to try?"
"How could we? You are the number 2 hero after all. How could we compete?"
If Hawks seemed suspicious of you two, he didn't show it. "Well you guys better figure out a plan soon, times running out."
"How about we just ask for the gems you stole?" "Come on, Hawks, why don't you hand them over?" your lips moved with the words, but it wasn't your voice being heard.
"Nah, I don't think-"suddenly his eyes went wide. You knew you only had a matter of seconds, you grabbed Hawks with your quirk. Shinso running close to him, with the cuffs Aizawa had given you in hand. Suddenly a few of Hawks' feathers came into view, a couple moving to push him awake and a few moving towards you, trying to push you out of range. The force of his feathers throwing you across the street, Shinso moved to your side, picking you up by the waist and shoving you over before more feathers came down on you both. You threw your hand up activating your quirk and suddenly they all stopped. That was new. Once he had you both far enough away, he went back into the air.
"You guys are going to have to try harder than that to get me." You both stopped then. Standing there, looking up at Hawks. "Didn't think I had a plan for that did you?"
You both shared a glance before you responded. "Oh, we figured the number 2 hero would have a plan. After observing you for a bit, we knew you could control your feathers individually and you must have had some aside to break you out of Shinso's control. We also expected you to use them to keep us far enough away to where we couldn't use my quirk to grab you. So, we weren't after you, we knew we only had enough time to grab what you stole."
Next to you, Shinso revealed he was holding the gems Hawks once had on him. Tossing them in the air as you both stood staring at Hawks.
He chuckled, "I guess I didn't make this exam hard enough. I suppose that means you both passed the test."
You raised your hand up in celebration, turning to Shinso. But his usual blank expression gave you a perplexed look.
"It's called a high five, Shinso." You'd grown up with a brother who would celebrate even the littlest of things, so hanging with Shinso, who wasn't like that at all, was extremely different for you. You picked up his arm, pressing his hand to yours before dropping it. "We'll work on it."
You both made your way back to the observation room you had been in before. But you didn't get far before someone stormed up to you. Katsuki walked up passed you and put his face right into Shinso's.
"Who do you think you are, picking her up like that?"
You put your face in your hand, was this really what he was upset about? Had you both not already gone over this jealousy thing before?
"Katsuki." You grabbed his arm, trying and failing at pulling him away from Shinso. You needed to deescalate this before anyone overheard.
"Would you have rather I left her there and she had gotten hurt from Hawks' attack?" Shinso looked at him with a blank expression.
Katsuki's face scrunched up in even more anger, he didn't like that Shinso had a point. "Well next time just move her out of the way like a normal person, you didn't need to get grabby." He growled.
Shinso only sighed, pressing his fingers to his forehead. "Are we done here?" But he didn't wait for a response, he only walked away, going to rejoin your classes.
"Katsuki, what the hell is your problem?" He finally looked down at you. "Why are you trying to pick a fight? Shinso hasn't even done anything wrong." He looked taken aback by your words.
"You're just going to side with him?" His anger returning to his face.
"I'm not siding with anyone, but you're the one who came out of nowhere ready for a fight. Haven't we been over this situation before? Like you couldn't even congratulate me on passing the exam, was a 'Congrats, Babe' too hard? The first thing out of your mouth had to start a fight?" You took a deep breath. "Honestly, I don't want to talk with you right now. Come find me when you've learned to control yourself and figured out this whole jealousy thing."
His face only conveyed rage, but you didn't want to dwell on it, you simply returned to your class. Waiting for the exams to be over. Once everyone had gone you went to your dorm, taking whatever you needed for the break and finding your brother so you could head home together.
