Theresa stayed silent as Bella drove her to school, not knowing what to say.
She hadn't talked to her last night since she wasn't home till late, and Bella was not happy this morning when she realized that she needed to drive Theresa to school, which meant that Bella couldn't get a ride from Edward to school every morning from now on. So, let's just say the two girls didn't have the best greeting.
"So, how do you like it here?" Bella asked her as she tapped her fingers on the steering wheel, trying to make the car ride less awkward.
Theresa just shrugged, causing Bella to sigh before nodding.
"That's how I felt when I got here too" She said as Theresa turned her attention from outside to Bella, "What changed?" Theresa asked her.
"I found Edward" She said, smiling as she said his name.
"You must love him" She said as Bella turned to look at her.
"How do you know?"
"You smile when you say his name. My dad used to do the same thing when he talked about my mom."
"Hey," Bella pauses before continuing to talk, "I'm sorry about what happened-" Bella said, but was cut off by Theresa before she could say anything else about the situation.
"It's fine, I'd rather not talk about it, if you don't mind."
"Not at all."
Theresa got nervous as Bella turned into the high school parking lot. She got even more nervous when she parked.
Bella turned off the truck and opened her door, leaving the truck. Theresa did the same.
"I can walk you to the office to grab your schedule, if you want" Bella asked her.
Theresa watched as Bella's attention turned from her to a boy next to a. She figured that that was Edwards and that Bella wanted to see him before school began.
"It's fine" Theresa said, declining Bella's offer nicely before walking away from her.
As Theresa walked towards the front doors of the school she saw Bella walk over to the boy, who she assumed was Edward, he was surrounded by what Theresa believed was his family.
As she walked by them she felt eyes watching her. She turned her head to see a boy with messy blonde hair, perfect pale skin, and, watching her. She looked away, putting her headphones on, before walking into the school building.
~~~~
Theresa sighed as she left her biology classroom. She had managed to get through half of her first day at school, though she desperately wanted to run home when she noticed all of the attention that was given to her. But thankfully no one bothered her much, just some stares and whispers as she walked through the hallways of Forks High School. Nothing Theresa wasn't used to.
Theresa walked to the bathroom and stood outside of it. She checked inside the bathroom to make sure it was empty and looked around the hallway to make sure no one was going to see her enter before quickly walking into the bathroom and locking herself in a stall.
Theresa sat on the toilet, first making sure it was clean, before putting her headphones on and taking her lunch out of her bag and began to eat it.
Theresa understood that the bathroom was a disgusting place to eat, especially a high school bathroom, but her anxiety was going through the roof just thinking of having to find a table to sit at in the cafeteria.
Theresa contently chewed on her sandwhich as she heard two girls talking.
"No, no, no, no" Theresa though to herself as she raised her feet off of the ground and onto the toilet, trying not to get caught.
"She probably just skipped Alice" Theresa heard Bella say as her eyes widened.
"She did not skip school on her first day Bella. Don't be stupid" She heard another voice say as she tried to pick her bag up from the floor without getting caught, but instead dropped her sandwhich on the tile of the bathroom floor, gaining both girls attention.
"See! I told you she'd be here!" She heard the girl who was with Bella yell.
"This cant be happening" Theresa said to herself as a pair of ballerina flats showed up at the bottom of the bathroom door. The girl knocked on the bathroom door twice as if she was knocking on a door to a home.
Theresa unlocked the door and slowly opened it.
She saw the same girl with a pixie cut that was standing near Bella earlier this morning, standing right in front of the stall.
"Hi!" She said enthusiastically, "I'm Alice."
The girl held out her hand for Theresa to shake as Theresa took off her headphones, finally realizing the situation she is in.
Sitting on the toilet, her feet being held against her chest, a pb & j sandwhich splattered on the floor next to her bag, and a girl named Alice waiting for her to shake her hand.
Theresa took a deep breath before speaking, trying to calm her anxiety, "My names Theresa" She said as Alice smiled at her.
"I'm going to call you Tess, is that okay? I think it's a nice nickname" Alice said as Theresa just nodded, shocked that someone could be this excited about a nickname.
"Well Tess, would you like to sit with Bella and my family at our table in the cafeteria?"
"Um, actually-" Theresa said, but was cut off by Alice talking, "Not trying to be mean, but it sure seems more comfortable than here."
Theresa sighed before nodding and standing up from the toilet.
"Great! Let's go!" Alice said enthusiastically as she wrapped her hand around Theresa's wrist and began to walk out of the bathroom, but was quickly stopped by Theresa taking her wrist out of Alice's grip quickly.
Bella and Alice both looked questionably at Theresa.
"Um, I just want to wash my hands real quick. You know how dirty bathrooms can be" Theresa said with a smile.
Alice smiled at her and nodded before taking Bella's hand in her own.
"Well we'll be waiting for you outside" Alice said before walking out of the bathroom with Bella.
Theresa waited for the bathroom door to close to lift up the sleeves of her shirt to see her wrist bloody.
"Shit" Theresa said under her breath as she got a hand towel from next to the sink, before wetting it and applying it to her now bloody and sore cuts.
Theresa then dried her wrist and pulled back down the sleeve of her shirt before exiting the bathroom to meet Alice and Bella.
"Sorry about that" Theresa said quietly as Alice smiled at her before speaking, "Not a problem. Shall we?" Alice asked as she held out her hand for Theresa to take, which she did.
"I can already tell that we're going to be great friends" Alice said to Theresa.
"The three musketeers!" Alice yelled as Bella and Theresa both stayed silent while making their way to the cafeteria.
~~~~
The three girls walked into the cafeteria and made a bee line for the table where Alice said her family sat. Theresa had recognized them all from earlier.
"Guys this is Tess, she's new here" Alice said as they approached the table, introducing the shy girl to her family.
"Is it okay that I call you that?" Alice asked Theresa, who nodded, before continuing to speak, "Okay so that's Edward, Emmett, Rosalie-" Alice said introducing Theresa to her family, "and that's Jasper" Alice said, as Theresa locked eyes with Jasper, who was the same boy that stared at Theresa today as she walked into school.
"Hi" Theresa said quietly.
"Here, take a seat!" Alice yelled as she pulled out a chair from the table for Theresa.
"Thanks" Theresa said as she sat down on it, putting her book bag down onto the floor next to her chair.
"Do you not have a lunch?" Rosalie asked Theresa. She was about to respond, but was cut off by Alice.
"Oh! I totally forgot! You dropped it in the bathroom when we found you! Do you want me to show you where to get another sandwhich?" Alice asked her.
Theresa opened her mouth, about to answer Alice, but was cut off again by the boy named Emmett.
"You were eating in the bathroom!?" He asked Theresa with a smile before laughing loudly.
"Um, well-" Theresa paused trying to find an explanation to give them but sighed as she realized there was really no explanation, "Yeah."
"Don't listen to Emmett, he's just a big goof."
"It is weird that you ate in the bathroom though. It's actually disgusting" Rosalie said as Theresa just nodded, "Yep."
The table was quiet for a moment before someone yelled Theresa's name.
"Theresa!" She turned around only to be met with a kiss on her cheek.
"Excuse me?" She asked as she raised an eyebrow at the boy who just kissed her cheek.
Bella sighed, "Theresa that's Tyler, Tyler meet Theresa."
"It's a pleasure" The boy named Tyler said as Theresa pulled her sleeves down over her hands, feeling awkward all of a sudden.
"Do you do that to a lot of girls?" She asked Tyler as he smiled at her, "Only the pretty ones."
"Hey! That's my girl!" A blonde boy yelled as he ran over to the table and kissed Theresa's other cheek.
"The names Mike, nice to meet you" The blonde boy said as he stuck out his hand for Theresa to shake.
"Theresa" She replied, but didn't shake his hand.
There was a cough at the table, making everyone turn their attention towards the person who coughed, which was Jasper.
"I think you guys are making Theresa a little bit uncomfortable" He said, a southern accent prominent in his voice, as Mike laughed lightly.
"No we aren't, right Tess?"
"Theresa."
There was a moment of awkward silence before the bell rang, signaling that lunch was over.
"Well, I guess we'll catch ya later" Mike said before him and Tyler walked back over towards their table to grab their bags.
"I hope not" Theresa said under her breath before standing up and grabbing her book bag.
She was about to leave, but instead decided to walk over towards Jasper, making sure to catch him before he left the cafeteria.
She tapped him on the shoulder, causing him to stop walking.
"Thank you" She said as he turned around to face her.
"For what?" He asked her as she was about to talk, but was cut off by Jasper, "Watch out" he said, grabbing her by the arm and pulling her towards him, away from the teens that were pushing their way out of the cafeteria.
"Getting me out of that situation and just now saving me from being trampled" She said as Jasper laughed lightly.
"No problem ma'am. Where I come from you don't kiss ladies on the cheek without asking permission first" Jasper said, causing Theresa to blush.
"Jasper!" A voice yelled, causing Jasper and Theresa to turn their attention to the voice, which was Rosalie.
"Let's go."
Theresa and Jasper turned their attention back to each other, "Nice meeting you Tess" Jasper said, making Theresa smile.
"It was nice to meet you too, Jasper" Theresa said as Jasper smiled at her once more before leaving the cafeteria.
Theresa stood still, with a smile on her face, as she watched him walk away.
