《The Healer Demands Payment!》Chapter 27 - Anyway, I Just Don't Have the Money!

“Hah?” Chu Tianfeng looked at Qin Xiumo suspiciously. But soon guessed the other man’s mind: “You are too despicable!”
Why didn’t he think of it first?!
Qin Xiumo was still as despicable as ever. No wonder he has fought with this guy countless times but rarely won before.
“Guard the door for me.” Qin Xiumo didn’t care about Chu Tianfeng’s rage and closed his eyes. The Jingxin pill melted away in his mouth, and the warmth it brought gradually became hotter and hotter. Like a fire, raging inside his body!
Qin Xiumo groaned suddenly.
Chu Tianfeng stood at the door, gloating joyfully. Using this medicine must be unpleasant for Qin Xiumo. The degree of pain was no less than falling into qi deviation once again. Even so, this guy would definitely use it.
A Jingxin pill of this level was hard to come by. If he didn’t use it, he could only rely on Meng Qi to calm down the aura in his body little by little. Since Qin Xiumo has remembered everything, he knew that this process lasted for almost three months. He went from being a waste to restoring his original cultivation level, then getting the tribulation once again, successfully breaking through… Meng Qi’s grace was worth for him to once again taste this pain.
Because the more pain, the stronger would the memory remained!
The arrogant sons of heaven like them had always been the center of everyone’s attention ever since they were young. Maybe they were actually very stupid, to not notice who was really good to them until their death. They also couldn’t see through the kindness hidden under some people’s seemingly alienated and indifferent expressions.
***
Meng Qi hugged the little white tiger and fell asleep until dawn the next day. She was completely tired yesterday. After opening her eyes, Meng Qi kept laying on the bed, her arms still remembered that kind of light trembling after her strength was exhausted. Having a too low cultivation level was indeed a big problem.
Meng Qi’s hand lightly rubbed Xiao Qi, who was lying lazily next to her. She got up and sat on the bed. Meng Qi understood her own weakness, which was an average talent in cultivation. It was later, after she met her master, that the man greatly helped her promoted from the Foundation Establishment to the Golden Core stage.
Xiao Qi was awakened by her movements and moved a bit before continuing to lay on the bamboo bed. Although yesterday he looked so exhausted and listless, he seemed slightly better today. The little guy looked at Meng Qi with his pair of clear blue eyes, his paws resting on the side.
Meng Qi reached out to examine Xiao Qi’s paws. Dark red blood stained his white front paw. Meng Qi carefully cleaned his wounds every day, then bandaged it with a new soft and clean cloth, and applied the best hemostatic medicine she could refine. Even so, at most it only slightly slowing down the bleeding’s speed. She took out two pills to replenish aura and blood from the storage bracelet and stuff them into Xiaoqi’s mouth. After that, she took out the bamboo slip sent by Xue Jinwen.
She once again read the book carefully from beginning to end. The blazing feather was indeed the most troublesome ingredient. Besides… Meng Qi jumped out of bed. It was a pity that Elder Yan was absent now. Otherwise, she could ask for his advice.
Meng Qi knew that many poisons weren’t easy to be solved. But if she currently couldn’t get rid of the poison, it would be slightly easier to just temporarily suppress the effect. Jackdaw grass’s poison effect wasn’t fierce. After being poisoned, although Xiao Qi’s wound kept bleeding incessantly, his life was not in danger. But if this continued, he would become weaker and weaker. Moreover, if the poison stayed for too long, it was easy to cause some irreversible damage to the body. Now that she had no way to find a blazing feather, Meng Qi should find a way to temporarily suppress the poison effect of jackdaw grass.

After Meng Qi made up her mind, she packed up simply and departed to the cold pond. Yesterday she worked hard for half a day, but Qin Xiumo’s aura was still in a mess. Meng Qi kept pondering about this problem on her way to the mountaintop.
Meng Qi remembered when she encountered Qin Xiumo in her last life. It must be after the man had already come out of the cold pond. Since no one took the pond’s spiritual dew, he spent almost a year soaking in there, relying on the spiritual dew to finally let the rampaging aura inside him a bit more controllable——At least, he could finally move his body.
When Meng Qi met him, she was already at the Foundation Establishment stage. Even so, it took her three full months to completely appease the chaotic spiritual aura within his body. The treatment process was very painful, and the only benefit was probably that her Jingxin spell successfully broke through and entered the fourth realm.
From the third realm to the fourth realm was only a matter of one step up at one glance. However, improving a spell was similar to improving the cultivation base: the higher the level, the harder it was to break through. Practicing on their own, when a cultivator wanted to improve their third realm spell to the fourth realm, it would probably take more than one or two years, and only if they practiced diligently, using the spell almost daily.
On her way to the stone hut by the cold pond, Meng Qi’s mind was preoccupied. After she arrived, she glanced at the ground first, confirming that the protective array she had laid showed no signs of being moved. Last night, there was also no sign of foreign intruders into the Qingfeng Valley.
Then Qin Xiumo…eh?
Meng Qi was startled, looking at the empty hut.
“Are you looking for me?” A low, cold voice of a young man suddenly came from behind.
Meng Qi took a quick step forward. The small silver medical knife was already in her hand, ready to attack.
Meng Qi turned her body.
Qin Xiumo was standing outside the door, still in the black robe. The man who yesterday couldn’t move even his limbs was now standing on his feet, and his face also looked less pale than before.
“You…” Meng Qi looked at the man up and down, subconsciously wanted to reach out to examine his body. She was really curious, how did he suddenly get better?! Was there a powerful healer who came to treat him and make him better overnight? Or did he take any miracle pill?
When her finger was about to touch Qin Xiumo’s wrist, Meng Qi suddenly startled. This guy has a bad temper. After experiencing his best friend’s betrayal, he didn’t trust anyone.
Except for Lu Qingran!
If Qin Xiumo really has been recovered, a light slap from a Golden Core peak’s cultivator would easily hit and seriously injured her.
Meng Qi quickly withdrew her hand, but her curiosity was still a bit uncontrollable. She stared at Qin Xiumo. Her lips moved, but didn’t ask anything. Chu Tianfeng was just proud and arrogant, but this man was cruel and merciless.
After Qin Xiumo was healed by her, his cultivation successfully had a breakthrough, and he entered the Nascent Soul stage. After reaching the Nascent Soul peak, in order to eliminate all factors that may risk his tribulation to the Spirit Severing stage, Qin Xiumo returned to the Southern Realm alone, trying to kill the former friend who had betrayed him.
At that time, the Dao companion of his former friend was pregnant and was going to give birth, but she found out to be poisoned by a very strange gu poison. Without treatment, it was very likely that both mother and child would not survive. Meng Qi happened to be on her way to gather medicinal ingredients in the Southern Realm, and after hearing that the man was seeking medical treatment, she became curious and came to his place to see the patient. That’s when she saw him again, the Qin Xiumo, who was like a bloodthirsty demon. Even though it was a long time ago, Meng Qi still remembered it clearly.

Later…
Meng Qi frowned. Although Qin Xiumo did not kill his former best friend’s Dao companion, he sent away the child right after born. No one knows where he sent the newborn baby, whether the child was still alive or secretly killed to eliminate a future danger. But at that time, no one also knew how many cultivators had been killed by Qin Xiumo. His murderous aura was so potent, and a thick bloody smell permeated from his body, so nauseating that Meng Qi still remembered it clearly.
He let go of that Dao companion, of course not for Meng Qi’s sake. In fact, Qin Xiumo believed that Lu Qingran was the one who had rescued him from his qi deviation, and treated Meng Qi like a complete stranger. However, he still gave Meng Qi a bit face because she and Lu Qingran were disciples from the same sect. But Qin Xiumo didn’t treat her politely either, especially after seeing Meng Qi in the mansion of his former best friend, who had betrayed himself and almost let him die from the qi deviation.
These memories flashed through her mind. She stepped back and withdrew her hand. Her grip on her medical knife tightened, eyes looking at Qin Xiumo alertly.
For a moment, Meng Qi felt a little bit annoyed-why didn’t she learn her lesson? If Qin Xiumo died here, then let it be. Why should she…
Alright! She actually knew the reason. Even after restarting her life, she still couldn’t watch someone die in front of her.
She just couldn’t.
Qin Xiumo closed his eyes for a moment. He then took a step forward, his tight jaw relaxed slightly, and he stretched out his hand towards Meng Qi. “You…” His voice was hoarse. “Do you want to examine my condition?”
Meng Qi: “…”
“Thanks for your help yesterday.” Qin Xiumo continued, “I’m much better now.” He even lowered his voice, trying to make himself sound gentler.
Meng Qi kept looking at him alertly.
“Although I am able to move now, the aura in my body is still not calmed down. Fellow Daoist, I still need to trouble you.” Qin Xiumo stood unmoved.
She has never seen such a polite appearance from this guy!
Meng Qi stared at Qin Xiumo for a while, before finally took a step forward and activated a spell towards the man’s wrist. She was indeed curious. Yesterday, she tried to use the arrays that could enhance the efficacy of a medicine. Plus, with the help of cold sky grass, it could indeed help her calm down the aura in Qin Xiumo’s body.
But the effect shouldn’t be so significant.
If it was really that simple to heal a qi deviation, then that Qin Xiumo…
“Huh?” Meng Qi frowned. Until just a moment ago, she was still on guard. But as soon as she touched Qin Xiumo’s wrist, she was immediately attracted by the condition inside the man’s body, completely neglecting other thoughts. “This…” She subconsciously muttered: “Jingxin pill? Fourth realm… No! At least fifth or sixth realm?”
Qin Xiumo had reached the peak of the Golden Core stage, and half a step into the Nascent Soul. Jingxin pill on the same level as his cultivation shouldn’t have much effect on him. Even the fifth realm wouldn’t be able to heal him this much overnight.
“Sixth realm.” Qin Xiumo did not hide it.
“Ah…” Meng Qi sighed lightly, her eyes full of yearning. To be able to refine a sixth realm Jingxin pill, is it a sixth grade medical cultivator?
With the help of the sixth realm Jingxin pill, the treatment process, which originally took three months or even more time, would greatly be reduced into just half a month. Meng Qi’s burden would also be lightened considerably. But she was still puzzled. If this guy had such useful medicine, why didn’t he take it earlier?
If it was someone else, Meng Qi might ask directly. But the man was Qin Xiumo. After being betrayed by his best friend, he had transformed into someone who regarded all kinds of moral restraints as a fart and had no taboo to achieve his goals. Even if she asked, he certainly wouldn’t answer.
“Then, let’s continue.” Even with the effect of the Jingxin pill, Qin Xiumo’s aura was still chaotic. He was now only slightly better than ordinary people. A cultivator at the lowest level of the Qi Condensation stage, like Meng Qi, may still be stronger than the current him.
“Okay.” Qin Xiumo followed Meng Qi back to the edge of the cold pond. He watched the girl busily rearranged the arrays, and then scooped some water from the pond. After that, she put on a black diving suit and preparing to dive into the freezing water.
Qin Xiumo suddenly felt touched. After Chu Tianfeng’s visit yesterday, he recalled more and more memory fragments. A girl’s cool fingers, and a faint medicinal scent. It was insipid, but also elegant and calming, as if contained countless of soothing voice. As Chu Tianfeng said, at that time, almost everyone thought they were dead and couldn’t survive. Yet, Meng Qi still gave her all to make the last effort.
Qin Xiumo was more perceptive than Chu Tianfeng. He recalled the light of curiosity that couldn’t be hidden in Meng Qi’s eyes when she saw his sudden improvement. What drew her interest was certainly not himself, but the reason why he suddenly improved. Meng Qi’s true love was the medical path.
Qin Xiumo slowly sighed. His lips curled, wondering whether he should be disappointed or happy.
With a loud splash, Meng Qi got out of the cold pond. She skillfully extracted the essence from the cold sky herb and threw a few spirit stones into the array. “Be careful not to touch my arrays.” Meng Qi instructed, “You sit in the middle.” Then she poured all the cold sky herb’s essence into the array.
Qin Xiumo obediently sat in the middle of three interloping arrays, then watched Meng Qi who also sat cross-legged in front of him. Her slender fingers gently touched his forehead, bringing the chillness of the cold pond’s water. Once again, the familiar Jingxin spell entered his body. Carefully, without being impatient, sorting out the chaotic aura inside, little by little calmed their aggressiveness.
After the sun once again set, Meng Qi exhaled slowly. She waved her hand, “It’s all for today.” After thinking a bit, she continued: “Even with the help of the sixth realm Jingxin pill, I will still charge my one hundred eight-grade spirit stones. Jingxin spell is only the first step. To completely heal you, I will have to use other medicines and spells.”
Qin Xiumo nodded, “Okay.” He generously promised: “I can write the IOU first.”
Meng Qi looked at him suspiciously.
The young man seemed to be prepared, and stretched out his hand, “Give me a bamboo slip.”
After getting the bamboo slip, Qin Xiumo quickly wrote an IOU for one hundred eighth-grade spirit stones, then marked his spiritual sense and returned the slip to Meng Qi. He watched the girl put away the IOU, and said: “I was betrayed by my friend and can’t go back to my sect now.”
Meng Qi knew this.
Qin Xiumo paused. He stared at Meng Qi with sincere eyes and slowly said: “This sixth-realm Jingxin pill was given to me by Chu Tianfeng.” He sold his teammate without hesitation.
“Huh?” Meng Qi was stunned.
“To exchange for this pill, I gave him everything that I still had. Now I have absolutely nothing, and can’t even take out a single first-grade spirit stone.” Qin Xiumo continued, “But I owe you a hundred eighth-grade spirit stone, so I can only find another way to pay my debt.”
“Uh…” Meng Qi wanted to say that the debt wasn’t so hurried.
Qin Xiumo slowly said, “I can only pay off my debt with my body. You can order me to do whatever you want. No matter what, I will do it.”
Although his tone was so innocent, his words were entirely like a rogue: “Anyway, I just have no money!”

However, there are several moments that are extremely violent. I've always loved shows/movies such as, (The Expanse, The Boys, Banshee, Kingdom of heaven, Vikings, Attack on Titan, Baccano, etc.) I am descriptive of the scenes with violence. So be warned :) I've worked long and hard and have finally finished my third draft. Still needs work but everything storywise is complete. There are still a few things I need to add and tweak. Grammatical errors and flushing out the characters and dialogue still needs work. If you see any errors or plot holes, please feel free to point them out. It helps me improve upon the story. Those in this dungeon must kill monsters to survive; maybe even each other. Join Ely as he struggles to survive a ruthless environment. What replaces his rest is untold trauma. What seems like an innocent game trope turns into a nightmare. This is a story of tragedy and the path to ultimate power. All in the hopes of an uncertain survival. _________ This fiction has NOT been abandoned. I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect. But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer. What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots. And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer. So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.
