《Halloween Vault 3D (Closed)》AmbassadorsUK's The Harbinger

AmbassadorsUK is a profile dedicated to all things British, from stories set in our fair isles to the British authors who craft them. Join us this Halloween for our Urban Legend inspired prompt!
Urban Legends have inspired horror writing for centuries. Nothing chills the blood in our veins more than a tale of the supposedly real. British folklore is no exception and is steeped in superstition; from beasts that stalk the moors at night, to apparitions that wander the halls of stately homes and castles. None, however, are entwined more in British myth than one specific tale - the Harbinger. Ethereal beings sent to warn and end is coming.
We've selected three harbingers synonymous with different parts of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We challenge you to take inspiration from of them and write a flash fiction story set on Halloween, creating a brand new urban legend of your own. The twist, your characters need to find a way to survive their harbinger visit!
What will your harbinger say, will it mean death, the end of a cycle, a stark warning, or just plain bad luck? Here are your choices of harbinger...
Similar to fireflies, Corpse Candles are flickering brightly lit orbs said to congregate like unwelcome visitors outside the houses of those who had been marked for death. What will yours do, and who might they follow, and why? If these don't give you the heebee-jeebees, we don't know what will!
It's not just Hitchcock that sensed something evil was afoot with birds. Whether it be crows, ravens or magpies, bad omens follow these winged devils.
Often an old hag or spirit whose screaming cries foretell the death of those that can hear her.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance to claw her way up the rigid social and financial ladder to make something of herself. A chance that wouldn’t come naturally to someone as familiar with dark alleyways and the glint of steel as she was with office work and corporate niceties.Book One is up on Kindle Unlimited as of 7/6/22 - https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0B2X3L8H5

An Otherworldly Tale: The Apocalypse/A School Saga
The origin story of The god and The Demon. While technically the third installment I've written, and first that I've ever shared, it is chronologically the first saga. An apocalypse, the school saga. "Do you like limes? I do. Quite a lot. They are the sweetest dessert I can think of. And I love my desserts. As it always has been." Evan said, upon being asked his favorite thing in the world. "The best lime comes from a world destroyed. An apocolyptic world. That is the only place you can find sweet limes. Or, at least, limes as sweet as the one I love so very much." Evan said, upon being asked where to find sweet limes.

Creature Feature: InGen Hybrids
The fossil record is obviously incomplete, which means InGen's experiments with the hybridisation of various prehistoric creatures are probably not over. With that in mind, this guide is likely incomplete. But if you're writing Jurassic Park or Jurassic World fanfiction, or stories told within that pretty awesome universe, then any of the creatures found in these fair pages should be considered entirely canon!
