《Cartoon Theories》Bill Cipher is King from The Owl House
Advertisement
Wow, another The Owl House theory?!?! That was pretty fast! Well let's just call it my gift to you for not updating this book in... a whole year😅
The Owl House, a very good show with my two favorite characters: Eda Clawthorne and King
And Gravity Falls, one of the BEST animated shows probably to ever be on Disney Channel/Disney XD. Mysteries left and right, lovable and funny characters and a killer ending. And who can forget ol' Bill Cipher?
Well maybe we can have the best of both worlds. Wouldn't be great if we could have Bill Cipher and King in the same show?! Well, maybe we already do!
You see, Bill is already in the show as one of the leading characters.. King! Yes, the cute, cuddly demon who is/was the king of demons. Well, Bill Cipher was basically the king of the Dream Realm in Gravity Falls. King doesn't like being treated like a child, why is that? Well because he USED to be Bill Cipher!
Let's talk about just how similar these two are.
Bill Cipher is clever, cunning, has infinite knowledge, has the ability to traverse the mindscape, and Bill is especially obnoxious! He loves making everything a joke, messing with people, and being a show-off. He is extremely chaotic and only get serious when he's angered or unable to get his way (or both)
King on the other hand shared a lot of these traits but is far from pure evil. He's a lot more rational than Bill, and given he ISN'T a narcissistic sociopath and actually has basic emotions, he's a demon, not a monster. But he is loud and obnoxious almost as much as Bill is. He loves asserting dominance over others whenever possible. He doesn't even need to be a living thing! He is mischievous and a jokester just like Bill Cipher. His biggest problem is the lack of physical intimidation. King is treated like a kid because of his size and demeanor. It's hard for anyone to see him as anything else but a cute, little sidekick to Eda which is far from Bill's status.

But one thing that really seals the deal is King and Bill's voice, laugh, and mannerism. Though King lacks Bills evil and chaotic intentions, he still has Bill's chaotic energy. Alex Hirsch does actually voice King but he gave them the same voice.
But how and WHY would Bill Cipher become the tiny demon named King?! Well the answer is simple... Reincarnation!
In "Weirdmageddon Part 3: Take Back the Falls" in his final moments he calls upon the force of The Axolotl, a deity in the Gravity Falls universe whose power and authority surpasses even Time Baby! And exists in the time and space between time and space.
Bill says to The Axolotl "My time has come to burn, I invoke the ancient power that I may return.
In the book "Dipper and Mabel and the Curse of the Time Pirates Treasure" which features in Alex Hirsch's own words one big CANON secret! Dipper and Mabel encounter the Axolotl and when Dipper requests his knowledge on Bill Cipher, the Axolotl recites a poem:
"Sixty degrees that comes in threes.
Watches from within birch trees.
Saw his own dimension burn.
Misses home and can't return.
Says he's happy. He's a liar.
Blame the arson for the fire.
If he wants to shirk the blame.
He'll have to invoke my name.
One way to absolve his crime.
A different form, a different time."
This means that Bill actually does miss his home dimension, which he informs Stan and Ford in Weirdmageddon 3 that he liberated by incinerating it to its last molecule. This seems to be Bill's biggest crime in the eyes of the Axolotl. And in order to seek redemption he HAS to take a different form in a different period. And we both know who this different form is: King. But what is this different period?

Well, we know canonically Gravity Falls takes place in 2012. We don't really know when The Owl House takes place but it could very well take place in 2019/2020. This could be the different time.
Where Bill gets shrunken down, stripped of his infinite power, into a tangible physical form that CANNOT be altered! Putting him in the position where he gets a taste of his own medicine, where he is the one that always gets picked on and underestimated. King has the idea of him being the king of demons... well, in a way he was. He doesn't the memories him as Bill Cipher, but instead they have been reduced to more of feelings. He can feel that he used to have more power, that he used to lead the demons of the Nightmare Realm. And when it comes to Bill's infinite knowledge, King has extensive knowledge on demons, making his own private records of real demons. It could very well be that this was influenced by King's limitless knowledge in his previous life as Bill Cipher, and making his own encyclopedia of demons was inspired by what Ford did in making the journals.
Bill's cry to the Axolotl was heard but to atone for his sins, he was given a life without true power. A life where his mischievous tendencies and obnoxious behavior remain intact but instead of the authority and power he is used too, he just comes off as childish, unable to be taken seriously. But he could have been reincarnated with some good in him. King is NOT a villain, this could be Bill's journey into a not so horrible person. New life, new identity, new start with only feelings of his past.
It's unclear how old King is or when he met Eda. And another interesting similarity between the two is Bill when he took over Dipper's body in "Sock Opera". One of the first things Bipper does is drink a soda (a very sugary drink), King LOVES sugary foods. And when Bipper was beat by Mabel, his body got burnt out because it doesn't have the ability to hold all of the energy Bill is used to having. King gets tuckered out pretty easily and loves to nap.
But what do you think of this theory?
This theory was made by The Roundtable on YouTube so go check that out!

Welcome to Devos
Welcome to a world where humor, drama, and action clash in epic tales spanning a vast continent....Welcome to Devos An anime styled medieval fantasy world featuring heroes, gods, and demons in a grounded and story/character focused series. A world where the gods of power bestow elemental abilities on those they find worthy. Welcome to Devos is broken up into parts, each part is more or less a complete story that expands the world, characters, and kingdoms of Devos. It plays out a lot like Game of Thrones where instead of a lead character you have an entire cast, each one getting plenty of time to develop over the course of the series. It is a relatively grounded, character and story-driven adventure that focuses on people of interest and their relationships with each other, their nations, and the eight gods of power. While the story features a good blend of light and dark themes it can get really grim at times. The continent of Devos is comprised of 5 territories, they include the three kingdoms of Verdun, Ashmir, and Vespa along with the territories of two demon lords to the north and south. The time period and setting are basically what you would find in a fantasy anime. There are eight gods of power which wield eight different elements and have the ability to "bless" individuals with certain abilities. Monsters roam the wilderness and the ruins/dungeons that are scattered throughout the landscape. Adventurers complete quests, hunt monsters, and explore the vast continent. We've got heroes, demon lords, gods, spys, special operations assault teams, phantom eagles, kings & queens, cursed chickens, talking goblins, and a whole shit ton more already in with plenty more coming soon.
