I walk back out to the car with the envelope in my hand. Two copies of the ultrasound image are tucked inside of it. My due date is October 4th and the baby is perfect size for approximately three months.

This all makes reality even more… real.

I’m going to have my boss’ child.

I climb into the car, setting the envelope on the front seat. I wait until the door is closed and I’m buckled to put a hand on my stomach. There’s no visible bump yet, but it’ll be here before I know it.

I start the car, backing out of the spot and heading home. My phone rings. I peek at the caller ID. It’s Andy. I find a safe spot to pull over before answering the call.

“Hello?”

“Hey. Are you up for a night out?”

Oh gosh. Whenever she plans a night out, I always end up drunk and in someone else’s bed.

“Um… baby on board here.”

“No duh. You won’t drink any alcohol. Trust me.”

“What does this night entail?”

“Oh no. You aren’t getting that information out of me until you say yes or no.”

I weigh the pros and cons, debating whether or not to answer.

“Yeah. Now tell me what I’m going to be looking forward to.”

“Get your butt home so I can get you dressed. I have the perfect outfit for you!”

“Aren’t you going to tell me what we are doing?”

When I get no answer, I look at the phone screen. She hung up on me. Frustrated, I put the car back in drive, merging back onto the road for the trip home.
