I unlock the door to my motel room, stepping in. There is one bed and it is small, but it will have to do for now. I set my bags on the floor and close the door before pulling out my phone to call Andy.
“Hey. Where are you? I went to visit you and your room is cleaned out.”
“Hunter kicked me out.”
“What?!”
“I told him that I am having his baby and he kicked me out.”
I can tell that she is seething. A male voice. Quiet and in the background, but I can I hear it.
“Go back to hanging with Daniel. I’ll call you later.”
“No. I’ve been with him all day. You’re my friend. What’s that phrase? Fries before guys?”
I smile and laugh. Of course she’d bring humor in. That’s exactly what I need.
“Yeah. That’s the phrase.”
“Well you, Skye, are my beautiful potato that turned into a fry. As I said, fries before guys.”
“I don’t know if I should take being called a potato as a compliment or an insult.”
“Take it as a compliment. Potatoes are amazing.”
“Thanks weirdo.”
“Any time. Text me your location and a list of anything you need. I’ll do my best to get them to you. Okay?”
“Yeah. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Stay safe, Skye.”
I hang up the phone and pick my bags back up off the floor, setting them on the small dresser. I root through my bag for shower supplies. I feel dirty and used. A shower can hopefully take away the dirty feeling. The used part, I’m not sure. I don’t think I’ll ever get over that. I finally find my bag and some fresh clothes. I walk over to the bathroom, turning on the light and the shower. I close the door and undress before stepping under the water. Hot enough to fuel my hate and rage. Just the way I like it.

Hate is what is fueling me now. I hate him for kicking me out. I hate him for getting me pregnant. I hate him for not supporting me.
