I step out of the steamy bathroom, the scent of pizza sneaking up my nostrils. I find Gavin in the main living space, remote in hand. When he sees me, he stands up.

“I hope you like plain pizza.”

“I do.”

He smiles and I follow him into the kitchen space. He reaches into one of the cabinets, pulling out a plate.

“How many slices?”

“Just one, please.”

I’m not hungry. Not after what happened.

Gavin hands me the slice on a plate and a napkin.

“What do you want to drink?”

“What do you have?”

“Water, soda, beer, I think I have milk too.”

“Soda please.”

He reaches into his fridge, a fresh can of ice cold Dr. Pepper coming out. He cracks it open before passing it to me. I follow him back to the living room. He sits down on the couch, patting the seat beside him.

“Come on. The show just started. I’ll fill you in if you want.”

Why the hell not? I don’t have anything better to do. I sit down next to him, my plate and can of soda find a spot on the coffee table. I have to admit, for a single guy, this place is clean.

“Okay, so what you missed so far. A young woman was just brought in on the ambulance, 22 weeks pregnant…”
