"Hi, hi, hi." I dropped my bag on the floor and got myself under the covers of Amelia's bed. After pulling the duvet over me, I saw that she was on her phone, her hair tied back, not a trace of makeup on her face. She clearly was not leaving the house today.
"Hey." She said, putting her phone to the side. We didn't have a chance to talk after Friday night nor could we talk the day after since she was out with her family. "You have work, right?"
"At 1," I told her, noticing how soft her voice was. " We got a bit of time."
"Okay," she crawled out from under the duvet, leaning up against her headboard. I got out too, rolling over to face her, a pillow tucked under my head.
I waited a moment for her to collect herself. When she opened her mouth to speak, her expression of distraught. "So, uh, it was after like the cake was cut and everything. He was talking to a couple people outside and I asked him if we could speak privately and he said yeah." She paused before continuing. "Then we went off to the side and we were just chatting for a bit. He asked me how I was and I remember laughing a lot."
"Yeah, you do that when you're drunk."
She laughed a bit. "Yeah, I noticed. Then my dumb ass decided to pry out any girl he had interest for. By the way Lisa is interested in him."
"What?" I asked then realized that that made a lot of sense.
"I'm not blind. It's not even like she's into him, the girl is possessive over him. She tried pulling him away like five times when she saw we were talking. I don't even know why the bitch ass was there, I never invited her. I don't even like that-"
"Amelia." I stopped her from ranting.
"Oh, yeah, back on track. Then he said he wasn't into anyone at the moment and drunk me was thinking, 'okay, this is your chance you got this.'" Amelia gave the biggest eye roll. "But then he asked me almost as if he already knew. He was like, 'Ames, you don't like me, do you?' I was so ready to lie my ass off but clearly my lying skills suck when I'm drunk and I said yeah."
Amelia grabbed a pillow and put her face in it, groaning dramatically. "What? What happened next?"
When I took the pillow off Amelia's face, she had her eyes closed tightly. "He put two and two together and realized that this is why me and Emil broke up." Amelia sighed deeply. "That's when he told me that we should just stay friends."
Oh for fuck's sake.
"And when he said it, he said it awkwardly. I get that since the conversation kind of put him on the spot to reject me nicely but I feel like it won't be the same anymore. You know? It's just going to be awkward from now on. He's your cousin and we all usually talk everyday. It's gonna be weird."

I tried to be optimistic. "I don't think it's going to-"
"It's gonna be weird, S," She cut in. "Don't sugarcoat it." She sighed, looking up at the ceiling.
There was a huge moment of silence between us. I grabbed her hand and she intertwined it with my own. "But what about you? How are you?"
"Um," She straightened her posture and glanced down at her nails. "I'm okay. Yeah, I'll be okay."
She might as well told me he just crushed her heart with a couple of words. I felt terrible for her. "Want me to stay over after work? I'll bring ice cream."
That was when Amelia perked up. "What kind?"
"Vanilla?"
"Of course you'd pick the boring flavor." I muttered and she chuckled.
Then her eyes lit up and she shook my leg with her hand. "I saw you and Kevin when Cam and I were talking. What happened?"
"What-"
"You were hugging. Don't lie to me. I have eyes. Did something happen?"
"Something might have happened but he was too drunk."
"What do you mean something might have happened?"
"He almost kissed me."
"Almost?"
"Yeah but Hayden pulled him away. It made sense for him to. I'm not really complaining. Something tells me drunk Kevin would be a really weird kisser anyways."
"Hayden?" She questioned then brushed it off. "Wait, would you have allowed him to kiss you?"
"I think I might have."
"Shut up," Amelia exclaimed, grabbing the pillow and throwing it at me. "Shut up, don't lie to me. Don't play with my feelings like that S. Don't."
"I'm not!" I assured her. "I'm being honest."
"What the-" Amelia got off the bed and looked up at the ceiling. "God, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for this development."
I threw the pillow at her back, laughing. "Ames."
But the woman kept going on. "I'm so happy. I'm sorry I haven't been going to church on the regular but thank you because even despite that you gave me this. My friend finding a man that will treat her right. Thank you." She pointed to the ceiling before pointing at me. "Dude."
"What?"
"Fuck Cam. Fuck boys for a second. Let me just be happy for you."
As much as I loved the mood change in Amelia even just for a split second, I frowned. "He hasn't texted me back."
Amelia's grin disappeared. "What?"
"He hasn't texted me back. Since Friday. It's probably nothing. It's just that it's not really like him."
She sat down on the bed, next to me. "That's weird. You know the message delivered?"
"Yeah, it did."
Amelia looked at me once more. "You think he doesn't remember what happened, don't you?"
"It's possible," I told her. "He was so," I made a face, a smile coming to my face. "cute in a weird, clingy kind of way. Almost like if he's drunk he's more looser than he already is. He would ask me if he wanted to hug me, if he wanted to kiss me. There was something about him that kind of made me feel different I guess? I don't know."

"You've been tossing around the words 'I don't know' a lot lately sis."
"Shut up, I know. Plus, it was the first time he had ever gotten drunk."
"Are you serious? The senior boys' basketball's lead point-guard has never gotten drunk before that night? Seriously?"
"Yup."
"Wow," Amelia shook my arm again, getting excited. "Well, think positive. You know? Like you do most of the time? C'mon, you have that guy wrapped around your finger believe it or not."
I twisted my phone in my hand. "I'll believe it when he texts me back."
I was walking down the hallway heading to the stairwell. Amelia and a couple other of our friends were already there waiting for me and I was certain that Monique had something to tell us about her and her boyfriend today which is why my phone kept pinging with messages to hurry. I glanced at the mark on the test I had just received back, shoving it back in my backpack.
That's when I saw a two people sitting by a set of lockers. One of them was getting up, a sweater hung over their head. When I realized what purple sweater it was and the familiar frame, I walked over to him, my hand on his arm.
He pulled the sweater off his face, looking at me with confusion before he realized it was me. "Oh, thought you were someone else. Hey." He rubbed his eyes.
"Hey." I said and he yawned, he raised his arms as if he wanted to stretch but put them back down as if he was too tired to even to do that mere action. "Are you okay?"
"Um," He didn't look at me, he kept his eyes down on the ground. "Yeah, yeah I am."
I stared at him for a moment longer to see the most evident expression of tiredness written all over his face. "Have you been sleeping okay?"
He sighed, his head hung low. "S, I have a teacher to talk to."
"Okay, I just want to know if we're going to talk later?" Kevin blinked at me as if he didn't even process the words I had just told him. "Kev-"
"Just," He took in a deep breath, rubbing his eyes once more. "Stop with the questions. I don't want to answer anything. I'll see you later or something. I don't know." Then he walked, more like dragged himself away down the hallway, disappearing out of sight.
I looked over at Hayden who was staring at me weirdly. "What?" I asked him, moving towards him.
He shrugged, going back to his phone. "Nothing."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Hayden."
"Yeah?" He flickered his eyes up at me before continuing to quickly type on his phone.
"You know something."
He sighed, signalling me over. He typed on his phone while explaining. "I overheard the conversation of Cam and Ames."
I was more on the topic of Kevin but the fact that he heard must've connected to something else. "Oh."
"Yeah and obviously she told you what happened."
"Yeah."
"Did she tell you what happened after?"
"What do you mean?"
He stopped typing and at a glance and I saw that the person he was texting had the contact name A💫. My eyes widened as I pieced that together. I knew Amelia's favorite emojis. "Is that Amelia?"
"Yeah, we kind of talked after her and Cam."
"Talked?"
"Okay, we kissed."
Kissed? "Like a peck-"
"Fine, it was more than that but we didn't have sex or anything. I wasn't going to take advantage of her she was clearly wasted."
Hayden and Amelia? Hayden and Amelia? Really?
"And about Kevin-"
"What about him?"I asked.
"He's just worried that his insomnia is back. He hasn't had time to think about it much. He had games this weekend and I don't think he didn't any of the work for classes this weekend."
"He hasn't been sleeping?"
"After the party he was really off. I think he only slept like an hour since that night. This has happened before. He gets really irritated so if he says anything to you just know he doesn't mean it."
"Okay."
"He has to adjust. He was on a routine remember? Go to sleep at a certain time and wake up at a certain time everyday and the one time that schedule didn't work out, he doesn't sleep. He can't. It's not his fault."
I knew it wasn't.
I was about to walk away from Hayden when I looked back. "But what are you planning to do with my best friend?"
He opened his mouth to speak but held back, a sly smile appearing on his face. "No, no, no." He got up from the ground. "Her brother Juan already interrogated me when he caught us. So did Raphael. I'm not letting you interrogate me too."
I swatted his hand away from my direction. "I mean it."
"Honestly," A hint of a smile played on his lips. "Whatever the hell she wants."

WARNINGS:-Yes, this contains LitRPG elements after a slow start, promise.-This work is incredibly Slice-of-Life heavy-Also conversation heavy-Also plot heavy (But not in that way, unfortunately)-The pacing in terms of plot is slow -(Edit after a review)- This story is also known as: I honestly don't understand what's the difference between "light" and "dark" stories. I realized that far too late, so this story is... weird. It might be light at times, and dark at times, and in all honesty, definitely has dark undertones. Oh, and prepare to be disappointed or pleased by this story; I understand that this story is polarizing, at least. Cover made by: Fei (@Chippy03966650) / Twitter
