《Someone Like Adam》37. Salted Caramel Tart

I traced my fingers along the borders of his abs, trying my best not to wake him up. From downstairs, I could hear the voice of Dad, announcing something to the guests and I contemplated whether to go join him or not. Adam's embrace was too comfortable to leave so I decided against it and tightened my hold on his torso, resting my head back at his warm chest and pulling the comforter over us.
His caresses, his kisses made an appearance in my mind and I bit my lower lip to stop myself from smiling. After kissing for what felt like hours, we both were so exhausted that we didn't realize when we succumbed to sleep. I woke up half an hour later and from the last twenty minutes, I have been enjoying the freedom of staring at him which might not last longer.
Adam's body shifted beneath me and the next moment, his steady breaths turned harsh. I lifted my head up and watched him as he slowly opened his eyes to narrow slits and looked at me with baffled expressions.
"Don't worry. I didn't deflower you." I chuckled, pulling away from him, afraid of what he would say next.
He looked towards the clock and rubbed his eyes, still looking slightly disoriented. "How long did I sleep?" he asked, running his fingers through his hair.
"One hour." I told him and he heaved a sigh.
Then I guess he finally remembered what had happened between us, if judging by the blush that crept up his cheek. He looked at me, opened his mouth to say something, closed it and then turned his face away.
The air between us grew awkward with every passing second. Like what were we supposed to say, compliment each other's kissing skills?
At last, I stood up and picking up his shirt from the floor, chucked it back to him. He stood up too and slipped into the shirt while I looked at myself in the mirror, assessing my appearance. My hair was completely disheveled and the my makeup was smudged. I blushed hard when I found out that the zip of my dress was tugged downwards to my waist. With fumbling hands, I tried to pull it up but failed, all the time feeling Adam's gaze on me.

He walked towards me, stopping right behind me. I lowered my gaze to the floor shyly as he pulled the zip up, goosebumps appeared on my skin wherever his knuckles touch.
"Thanks." I muttered without looking at him.
"Alicia!" he said my name and I instantly remembered how he had moaned when I kissed him.
"Yeah?" I asked, gulping.
"Just for record, I don't regret anything I did." he said and when I lifted my eyes to his face, I found him smiling. Well, more like the corner of his lips was pulled upwards but still. A warm feeling erupted inside my chest and I smiled back, fighting the urge to make out with him once again.
"Me too." I managed to say, despite the lump in my throat.
Our gaze locked for a minute after which, I turned my eyes back to the mirror and he made his way out of my room. After he had left, I couldn't help but jump up in happiness.
...
The first person that appeared in my mind after waking up was Adam. I smiled involuntarily and stretched my limbs, letting out a loud yawn before hopping out of the bed.
Last night, the party continued till 2am and it was almost 4 in the morning when I finally slept. That explains why I was waking up at 1pm. Fortunately it was Sunday so I didn't have to skip school.
Doing my morning routine, I took a shower and changed into jeans and sweater and after pulling my hair up in a bun, I descended the stairs and flopped on the couch of living room.
"Good morning." I said to Dad, my voice still sounding sleepy.
"Good afternoon." he replied.
He left the room and returned with a cup of coffee in his hand. After taking few sips, I was finally starting to feel better and my mind cleared up.
"Now that you are awake, I can go to the office." Dad said and stood up, picking his car keys from the center table.
"You should take some rest Dad." I suggested, noticing the bags around his eyes. His cheeks looked hollow and light stubble had started to appear on his jaw.
"I'm fine Ali." he said and patted on my head. "Take care."

After he left, I turned the TV on and switched between channels, finally stopping on a Romcom. While the movie was playing on the background, I opened my mobile and checked all the texts.
A huge smile appeared on my face when my eyes landed on a particular text. It was a Good Morning from Adam which he had sent at 7:30 in the morning. I felt slightly ashamed of myself for waking up too late.
Moving my ass off the couch, I barged in the kitchen and decided to cook something for Adam as an excuse for meeting him. My eyes settled on the packet of brown sugar in the cabinet. Putting the apron on, I preheated the oven and collected all the ingredients needed to bake Salted Caramel Tart.
It took me an hour to prepare the dessert which ended up looking heavenly. After putting it in the refrigerator, I pulled the oven mitts and apron off and ran back to my room to change out of the clothes.
...
After knocking gently at the door, I waited for Tiffany to open the door but when the door opened, my eyes met with Adam's bare chest. Hesitating, I looked up to his face which was dripping with exhaustion.
"Um.. Where.. Where is Tiffany?" I asked, my throat suddenly felt dried.
"She isn't home." he said, crossing his arms around his chest and his biceps protruded even more.
He had now stepped aside, in case I wanted to come inside. I looked between his face and the space beside him, contemplating whether to step inside or not. After what happened last night, I didn't think I would be able to stand in the same room as him without thinking of his hands on my body or his lips on mine.
After thinking for almost two minutes, I stepped inside and heard him shut the door behind me.
"I brought Caramel Tart." I said, licking my dry lips when I found him standing behind me.
"For me?" he asked, his warmth heated the skin on my back.
"Um.. Y.. Yeah.. I mean, for Tif..Tiffany too." I said, turning around to face him.
Damn it. Why am I so nervous?
Amusement dripped from his face as he pulled the box from my hands and walked inside their kitchen. I followed him inside, watched as he pulled it out of the box and cut a small piece with a knife, all the time giving me a view of his muscular back.
He picked up the piece and walked back to where I was standing. Taking a bite of the tart, he narrowed his eyes as if assessing the taste.
"It's nice." he said after a moment.
I sighed in relief. "Thank God. I didn't even taste it." I smiled.
Hearing this, he brought his hand to my mouth, probably offering me the rest of the slice. I gulped, looking at his hand and then after contemplating, leaned forwards and took it inside my mouth. His fingers lingered on my lips for a small moment, turning me into a blushing mess.
He knew what he doing to me and he was definitely finding it amusing.
My eyes once again roamed over his bare chest. "Just go and wear a shirt." I finally let out a groan.
"Why?" he cocked his head to his side and smirked.
"Because y.. you are distracting me." I admitted and his smirk widened.
"You didn't think that last night?" he teased, stepping closer to me.
"Adam!" I whined.
I couldn't decide if he was flirting with me or not. And if he was, maybe I should flirt back. Think Alicia, think.
"Ughh." I snorted. "I'm so bad at this." I said, kicking the floor and hiding my face with the help of my hair.
I heard his chuckling, followed by a touch on my chin. He pulled my chin up, his eyes bore into mine and slowly leaning towards me, he placed a small kiss just near the corner of my lips. My heart slammed against my ribs and my stomach once again turned into a ball of nerves because of his action.
Taking one step away, he turned around and I watched silently as he put the tart back in the refrigerator and gripped my hand in his large one, pulling me out of the kitchen to their living room.
