《Dreams of Happiness (BonexScourge)》Chapter Twelve

"No, no, come back to me, Bone, come back!" Scourges voice forced the heavy eyelids of a dying cat to open. His fur was cold and his pupils unnaturally large. Scourge looked down in utter fear. He was sat in a cold grey alley that he used to call home, the body, if you could still call it a body, of a dead cat lay behind him, and he was placed beside a black-and-white overly large tom that he seemed to care about much more than the one behind him. Everything was going badly.
Bone raised his head before yowling in pain and letting it fall back to the hard cold stone. Scourge looked around frantically as if there should be someone to help him. Help. He needed help...a Safe Place...he remembered with a jolt that the hideaway of cats was quite real and leapt up. There were no healers there...but he knew a group of cats that were very good at healing. He could only hope that they would help him.
"I'll be back for you, I promise!" Hope scoured through the small black cat's body as he worked every muscle in his body feverishly, he remembered the exact place...the exact hole...and with that he was inside. Cats froze at his urgency, and when they realized who he was, they ran screaming in panic, some hid, some fainted, and others began to form a shield, ready to fight.
"No no!" Scourge screamed over the din "Please! Please help me my...friend...is hurt and I need help getting him to a place he can be healed, I can't carry him on my own..." The noise did not completely die down, but it became quieter. Cats looked at each other skeptically, unsure of what to believe. With a sinking feeling Scourge realized that it was unlikely that anyone would help the cat that they had been taught to fear. His tail drooped and the adrenaline seemed to leak out of him.

"Well," a voice rose up from the rest, the same female cat that Scourge had seen in his dream had spoken, "what are we waiting for. The cat said he needed help. Are we not a community that helps those in need? May all cats strong and brave enough come with me to help Scourge, leader of Bloodclan." the female's words caused a small ripple of appreciation. Though most cats stayed back with the same suspicious expressions, a couple stepped forward. Scourge nodded hesitantly.
"Th-That should be enough. Thank you, we have to go though, he's bleeding bad." Scourge felt a calm power sweep over him, he was leading again, leading is what he knew how to do. The cats who had stepped forward and nodded.
"Let's go then, lead the way." the female said assuredly.
Scourge was running again, some could barely keep up with him, his small legs flashed across the ground as he came to the place that he had left Bone. Murmurs came over the crowd as they saw the ripped and bloody body. Whispers of Bone's name touched the ears of Scourge. "Yes, yes of course you knew him." Scourge said distractedly, beginning to lodge his shoulder under Bone's body.
"Yes we know him. I'm afraid that we won't be allowing him to pass away today. My name is Mouse by the way, the three in the back are Winter, Lichen, and Purr, and the big one with the missing eye is Calamari. Let's go then shall we?" Mouse lowered her shoulder beside Scourge's and with some difficulty they lifted him off the ground. He groaned weakly and the one that Mouse had said was Winter raced forward to help, Lichen and Purr followed while Calamari gently lifted his tail off of the ground and unquestioningly began to lead them.

"Calamari used to be a ShadowClan cat, but when they found out that she only likes females, they left her to die in the streets. She knows the way home." Mouse explained quietly, brushing her tail sympathetically against the large female's fur. Calamari made no reply.
They traveled through the day and into the night, stopping only to get Bone water and food, they didn't dare touch the weakly bleeding wound. A day passed and they rushed across the road, Purr, the smallest out of all of them, had to be told to stop and rest because she usually refused to stop helping. Scourge was still in a strange state of shock, these cats, though they had been taught to hate him, were helping him. No. They were helping Bone. Scourge noticed with a tinge of sadness that none of them probably cared about him at all. He was just along for the ride.
As soon as fatigue began to set in, they reached the WindClan border, nerves racked Scourge as he looked out over the wide open moor. Calamari reluctantly let Bone's tail fall to the ground so she could speak. Her low and calming voice rolled over the cats. "ThunderClan is our best bet, ShadowClan would kill me on sight, last I knew Windclan, they chased anyone off their territory that looked funny, and we most definitely look funny, and Riverclan is a little lax and forgive me if I say, self centered. Thunderclan is the most likely to help us. Well make a small circle around the lake and make our way into Thunderclan territory. When we get there, we'll catch a patrol and explain what happened. No questions or comments, let's go." the cats nodded to the best of their ability. Now that Purr knew what to do, he started leading instead of Calamari, who took Purr's place in carrying Bone.
The travel around the lake was filled with tension, they were not approached, perhaps because it was late into the night. Whatever the reason, they made it to the Thunderclan border and hesitantly entered the territory at dawn. Calamari explained that there was a dawn patrol and that they would hopefully come around soon. No one dared check Bone's pulse, they were all afraid of what they would find.
They stood for hours, afraid to move Bone, exhaustion clouded their eyes and made their brains fuzzy, Scourge had locked his legs long ago and was now shaking slightly, forcing back tears. Mouse was breathing heavily and Calamari was doing her best to take most of Bone's weight. Lichen and Winter were weak, but they hadn't taken a single break, at this thought appreciation and hope filled Scourge's body and he hardened his shaky legs in defiance. The sun crawled over the horizon sleepily and shone it's pale morning light on the weary pack of cats. A crunching jolted them out of their sleepy stupor and back into the present.
"Who's there! My god...Scourge?!"

When young Darek flees imperial mages tasked to exterminate shape-shifters, he launches them all on a voyage to redeem their unsought destiny. United by fate and guided by prophesy, their growing band of fugitives journey for A'lara to fight the ancient evil infiltrating the capital. But looming over the gears of fate, their enemies follow the same prophesies. With the unknown close upon them, Kingard and his allies face a mortal quest to restore their infected empire. Praise for Awakening: If you love Anne McCaffrey, J.R.R. Tolkien and Tad Williams, then Awakening is a novel you will surely want to pick up. D.N.Frost is a consummate world-builder with a knack for creating characters that are complex and three-dimensional. Frost writes with graceful prose that is descriptive and well-edited. The plot is fast-paced and entertaining. What really sets this novel apart is the cartography, which is a spectacular accomplishment. Incredible world-building! - M.L. Spencer, author of The Rhenwars Saga ★★★★★ This novel was published in 2014, and it includes 19 antique watercolor maps! Check them out: Maps of Awakening: an atlas directory

Demon Hunters
Far in the future, the last two viable cities in the western hemisphere – Technoburbia and New Baravia – struggle for control over a vast and largely desolate land. Officially they are at war. In practice, the war has been a stalemate for a generation, the disputed frontier between the two city-states never moving. In the city of New Baravia itself, a vast circular concrete wall keeps its inhabitants in, and its refugees out. For its citizens, life is monotonous and unequal, with enormous wealth in the hands of nobles, criminal gangs, and entertainment bosses. It is the last of these that control the hit entertainment show, “Demon Hunters”. A chance, perhaps, for the ordinary man or woman to rise up, and change their fate... This LitRPG novella is based around a futuristic battle-royale situation, partly set in VR, and partly in a post-apocalyptic city. The story features combat and action, some strong language, and lots of great characters that will stick with you! [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
