《The Country of Monsters》Chapter 22

Although the loyalty of the monsters I called were a root of an endless questioning, I decided to drop the matter. If I were the one creating them, I could just give a postulate and say they inherently respect their creator. But the matter was much more complicated as I was merely bringing them here from a place they did not remember (and, by the way, none of the new people still remembered where they came from).
In the following days, I tried calling evolved goblins and orcs through the gate, but I was unsuccessful. I assume I am only able to call unevolved monsters with low skills, or the ones I call lose their evolution and abilities when they pass through the gate. Either way, this explains why all the ogres I called could only performer beginner magic despite belonging to a race known for their magical and physical expertise. This also goes to explain why Gobo’s magic was relatively weak in the beginning although he was able to further his skills in a matter of weeks. Surely, if he was able to practice his skills in wherever he came from, or was aware of them, he would already have a much better expertise before being called.
Most of the monsters I called were giths and hobgoblins with only a handful of them being trolls and even less being ogres. Indeed, there were at least 100 giths and 80 hobgoblins, while there were only 9 trolls and 5 ogres. Was it that the rarity of monsters was reflected in my magic or wherever they came from some of the monsters were similarly rare?
All five of the ogres could use magic, yet they all had different types. Only two of them, Lesta and Triste used offensive magic. Lesta was a lean, muscular man with long, messy dark-brown hair. His horn, like the other ogres, was painted in a very dark shade of brown, complimenting his hair. He was around as tall as me. Triste, had similarly brown hair and a horn, yet was much paler than Lesta. She was neither as lean as Lesta, nor was tall. She had a rather sweet appearance, nothing similar to the intimidating look of Lesta.

Both Lesta and Triste were magic users, but that was not all there was to their abilities: they were also fighters. They knew they were fighters like Gobo knew he was a shaman. Though, from their stance and moves, one could only assume that they were fierce fighters. The only problem was that they did not know what weapon they used. Maybe, it was that they had forgotten their weapon wielding skills like they have forgotten their memories and magic skills. Either way, they needed weapons. Once Lesta and Triste got their hands on their weapons, I was sure that they could perfect fighting skills in no time.
Good news came when one of the dark elves entered my room in excitement:
“Chief, we think we found an iron deposit. There is a huge cave to the East of here, beyond the planned area for expansion of Harran. The entrance to the cave is narrow and was hidden, but we should be able to widen it with a little bit of work. What should we do?”
Everything is going good except for the magic exhaustion I keep suffering from. A huge cave should solve most our problems and considering that there is a chance that it actually is an iron deposit. Maybe we should relocate the expansion area to farther East near the cave.
“How big is this cave?”
“We were not able to explore it expansively, but the area we explored should be able to accommodate our entire population. It might be a cave system as there are passages to deeper parts – that is also why we think it might be an iron deposit below.”
“I see, that is good news indeed! But, are you sure it is uninhabited?”
“We were not able to spot any recent traces of movement around the entrance and the passages that lead to deeper areas.”

“Just in case, we need to explore the cave more in depth before making a decision. Take some dark elves who have mining experience, along with hundred goblins and twenty giths with you to help with exploring. Take the trolls too, since we cannot house them in the buildings – they are just too big. They can guard the entrance until the entrance is widened enough to let them pass through.”
“Yes, Chief.”
If the cave is indeed big enough to house our entire population, another good idea would be to send in half of Harren’s population. Essentially, because we have an increasing population, and because Harren will expand to East, it makes total sense that expansion has two originating points: the current Harren and the newly explored cave. Also, if I divide the population into two, I would be able to get rid of the overpopulation problem for the time being while also enabling Harren to develop a trade route. Until we have enough population to found another city, the current Harren and the cave would also function as cities. If they were not close enough to later merge, the expansion plan could be revised as a city founding one. For now, though, I am planning to refer to the cave as the Harren Cave.

Legends of The Wesh: Lochley
The Universe is held together by something. It is an undisputable truth but nobody knows what that something is. People claim that it is connected by The Path of Legends, where Gods traversed trying to find the meaning of their own existence. Others claim that the universe is a Tree, connecting worlds with its extending branches and giving life-bearing fruits to its inhabitants. Several even claimed that the Universe is just a colony of ants, that this universe and the worlds in it are just as insignificant as insects. In one of the Worlds in it, the arrival of someone signaled great changes. Gods will die, Trees will Rot, Insects will burn. Those at the top had fallen and they will upend the worlds trying to claim what was theirs. Those at the bottom have had enough of scraps and they yearned to devour the fruits of the worlds. Those that were innocent and caught in between had no choice but to persist, lest they get erased by the surging tides. Nobody knows where will they end, but everybody knew where they started. They will not be judged, they will not be rebuked, they will not be curbed, they will not be vanquished. The universe is their canvas and it’s time — time to paint their truths upon it. Azrael was born as a prince in the warring world of Ost. Inheriting the title but not its privileges and oppressed by his siblings in every step of his life, he had no choice but to be subservient to their whims until circumstances spiraled him to the abyss, to a new world, and to more agreeable companions. But is he truly free from the past or will it continue to hound him to his new life? Elira had one wish… to be known more than as an offspring of the Great Phasol Family. Talented, hardworking, and stubborn, she struggled to break free from the influence of her family. Everything had been going well in her life but is she strong enough to resist the upheaval and truths of the world? William grew up in an orphanage with nothing to his name. Regaled by various tales of fantasy and greatness by his caretakers, he reached adulthood with the goal of having a legend of his own. Will he make his mark on the world or be forgotten like an ant; crushed by the boot of an unsuspecting traveler. The world of Lochley has been at peace for centuries and its undercurrents are growing restless from waiting… waiting for that spark of opportunity to ignite and swallow the world whole. Some will cause it, some will resist it, and some be drowned by it. Which one will you be?

At The Lions Gate
In the 20th century America reinvented itself. Devastated by depression, scarred by war, rocked by a revolution, Americans banded together to preserve their country and their freedom. They had faith in themselves, faith in one another, and for those who believed…faith in God. This novel tells the story of one American who lived through those turbulent years….years that would test his character and the character of a nation. For Josh Sanders it begins in 1935. A star athlete in school, pro football is a ticket out of poverty during the Great Depression; but when his father, a WWI veteran, is killed during a robbery, Josh’s spirit is broken, and with it his boyhood dream. To honor his father Josh joins the war effort in 1942, distinguishing himself as a fighter pilot, until a fateful decision near the end of the war changes the course of his life once again. But many years later, after a stint as a boxer and a failed marriage, Josh finds his calling…at a time when the country is at war with itself. The year is 1968. King and Kennedy have been killed, race riots are breaking out, and Vietnam has become an albatross, causing massive protests across the country. In the streets of San Francisco Josh watches a crowd of students march for peace. As a veteran he’s conflicted, toward the war and those who oppose it. But when he encounters Rosy Goldin, a spirited young protester in need of help, a voice from the past calls him to action. His good intentions are soon tested when Rosy falls in love with the fugitive anti-war activist Erick White, a young man determined to oppose the war at all costs, against the wishes of his own father. Fearful of what happens to Rosy, Josh confronts Erick, unwilling to be part of his plan to escape…until he meets the boy’s father. A high-powered criminal attorney, Karl White is also a flag-waving patriot demanding that his son follow the law. But as White makes his case Josh is jolted by a painful war-time memory, a crisis of conscience that will soon determine the fate of Rosy Goldin and Erick White.
