《Refining the Heavens》B4, Chapter 8: Allies

It has been five years since the manor was built. While they were studying, this place has been serving a grand purpose.
Kairos called the gang into the great hall and the three hundred of them, along with Vouno and the fifteen bodyguards, gathered at the middle.
They moved away the long table and the chairs, then stood waiting.
Except for a few of them, the rest had no idea the reason for being here. Then Kairos pointed at the ceiling and said, “Look.”
They saw a small air shaft at the top. Its size is no bigger than an apple.
When all of them had tilted their heads up, they saw shadows wriggling out. More and more flooded the place, until each of them was accompanied by something.
Their speed was so quick that only they stopped could their appearance be clearly seen.
“Eastern Dragons!”
“True Dragons!”
“Whoa, they grew big.”
“What’s this, I’ve never heard about them before?”
“Why does the Snowdrifts have dragons? I thought they were extinct!”
There were exclamations all around, but they were split into two parties.
One of them were from the group that know about the dragonlings and the other, which numbered more, were those that didn’t.
“Actually, these aren’t True Dragons,” Snow said carefully.
In the sea of voices, they couldn’t tell who spoke and there were quite a few disagreements to her words.
“These can’t be normal dragons, I’ve seen a Wind Serpent before, and the draconic aura on it was pathetic compared to these…”
“But there are too many to be True Dragons. Could they be dragons with purer bloodlines?”
“Impossible! There are too many of them, if they are from one particular breed it might be possible; after all, dragons are vigorous. But, there are three types here. See, there are fire, ice, and lightning dragons.”
“No, there are four types… There’s wind dragons too,” someone pointed out at a few dragonlings with miniature wispy hurricanes surrounding their bodies.
The number of wind dragonlings are few fewer than their counterparts because Kairos did not unlock this element until recently.
At this time, Snow spoke again, “What I mean is that these are Ancestor Dragons. You guys know, those that gave birth to the True Dragon race?”
The frenzy became greater at hearing this.
“No way! Aren’t those beings from the celestial realm?”
“Yes they are, that’s why they are still so tiny,” Alan explained.
The crowd quickly quietens.
“But why are there so many Ancestor Dragons here?”
“That is something our dear leader needs to explain,” Snow said with an impish smile.

Kairos embarrassedly laughed, then he said, “I’ll show you guys instead…”
He summoned a copper sword in his hand that has four types of elemental inscriptions on it.
The material is worthless in the eyes of cultivators, but the runic symbols are far ahead of their time, so much so that even the national treasure grade equipment couldn’t compare.
Kairos lifted it up with one hand, and just like that he broke it through channelling his powerful Ki into the item.
The fragile material shattered into pieces and fell onto the ground, but no one bothered to look at the shards.
The three hundred odd from the Snowdrifts had their eyes glued to the four new dragonlings that joined them.
Wind, Fire, Frost, and Lightning.
It is the same four elements that the other dragonlings in this place possess.
The group stiffened a bit, then quite a few of them summoned their personal weapons.
They looked at the inscriptions on their blades, then turned their sight towards Kairos.
“Are these…?” someone asked
“They are the same,” Kairos nodded.
“He… he could create dragons?”
“Not just any dragons but Ancestor Dragons?!”
“Wouldn’t this make us invincible? Why are we still following the words of those Devilheart scumbags?”
When the topic veered towards their enemy, the discussions erupted like fire lit in a coal mine.
It took a while for Snow to explain to them about the growth stunt that these divine beasts are facing and at the end the guys collectively sighed.
After four to five years of consuming the best that Gaia has to offer, the dragonlings are now a frightening force.
Even Kairos who takes care of them, does not know how strong they are now.
With their help, the team were all smiles. They have a chance against the Ku Kang camp now.
The group wanted to keep their new dragonlings, but many of them already have a contract beast.
“Hot damn, this is a dragonling! What should I do to form another contract?”
“You can’t. We can only have one creature in our life. We are soulbound.”
“Wait, seriously?! You tamers couldn’t discard your previous pet and change to this one? I mean, it’s a dragon!”
“That… that’s terrible!” a girl said as though the person who suggested throwing their bound creature away was a scum.
The boy blushed and looked away, but there were others who agreed with him, “If I knew there’s something cool like this, I would’ve waited…”
The guys set to thinking. With a Soul Contract, they have many benefits as a tamer. Especially the ease of summoning their creatures anytime.

However, after forming a bond, it is difficult to form a second one. It’s not impossible, but at least they do not have the method.
After a short while, Edward said, “Wasn’t there another kind of taming method?”
Snow caught on immediately saying, “Oh! The one tamers used in the past?”
“Yep. It isn’t as convenient but… it allows multiple personal beasts right?”
The traditional way to tame a creature is to etch a runic symbol on the beast and form a blood contract. When the bond is made this way, there isn’t a telepathic link or fusion ability, but they wouldn’t need to discard their previous soul contract.
Those among them that were not tamers formed their soul contracts with their dragonling, while the rest of them, they gathered together to figure out how did the traditional blood contract works.
“I have a scroll on that,” Snow said as an aged bamboo scroll appeared on her hands. After the invention of paper, such relics are hardly seen and most of them are at least a few centuries old.
The group were amazed, but it was not secret that the Autumn Blossom clan were famous historians.
The text had been worn down, and many knowledges common in the day when the bamboo scroll was written is lost in the current age.
Alucard shared his family’s runic knowledge, Fauna helped with the inscription method, and Snow deciphered the process recorded in the scroll.
The rest of them joined in and Kairos followed behind them, helping to remedy any part that were lacking. After going through the academy, all of them had improved tremendously and are at the empire’s tradesman level.
Because of the lack of materials to progress further, they were filled with motivation to innovate. They came up with ideas and pieced together the best method in half a day.
Afterwards, the group collectively created soul contracts with the dragonlings and blood contracts for those with creatures of their own. The reason is simple. While these dragonlings are small, they are easy to hide, but when they grow larger it will be easier for them to disappear by fusing into the owner’s body. Not to mention the firepower they will gain in battle.
The only one amongst them that couldn’t form a soul contract remains to be Kairos – the famous no-creature-tamer.
Unfortunately, even these Ancestor Dragons cannot form a contract with him. He looked at Aisa, but the Primordial Dragon only returned his stare with a cute yawn.
Kairos felt faint for a moment before collecting himself.
He does not know if it was Aisa that is still scaring away his potential contract beasts. He did not have such problems when forming a spirit contract with Tempest.
The group settled everything in another half of the day, then they slept overnight in the Astroire castle before getting ready to set forth the next day.
Vouno took two hundred family guards with them on this trip and they rode towards the country side, in the directions of the northern borders.
They could take a teleportation ward towards their destination easily, albeit a little too expensive, but they have several destinations in mind before that.
As they travelled, they cleared out the outlaws in the area. The deaths accompanying them did not cause a single of them to lift an eyebrow.
In a week they arrived at the first town, called Saint Swords Town. Over there they met with a hundred elite members of the Solitary Blades Clan and two hundred Dark Swords assassins that joined them.
They took a slight detour, and in another three days they reached a rustic village called Little Poh Village and a hundred elders from the Pink Chicken clan followed them.
The continued north, reaching a great flat land that is dotted with camps. The leaders walked out and greeted them, and then four hundred craftsmen joined them; a hundred blacksmiths from the Blue Frost family, a hundred healers from the Light Rose family, a hundred Inscriptionists from the Northern Cross family, and a hundred Runes Master from the Angelheart family.
The group’s looked worried, but they continued north to the largest city in the north of Saint Empire, the Saint Star City. They reached in nearly two weeks, and five hundred Steel Rose family soldiers were waiting for them, making their number a thousand eight hundred.
They resupplied, making sure they had enough food and clothes for the north. They ignored the auction that is about to start and the many comforts and entertainment that the city has to offer and the continued marching north.
Their mood grew grimmer.
When they came close to the final bastion in the north, the northern borders, they discovered the corpses of over fifteen thousand men lay scattered about.
There were many from their forces. Dark Swords, Pink Chicken, Purple Turtle, Green Dog, Steel Rose, Autumn Blossom, Angelheart, Blue Frost, Light Rose, Northern Cross, and even newly trained soldiers from the Astroire family.
The places their bodies lie were not in the enemy territory, but within their borders.
These were all help sent from their allies, and the bulk of their military strength to take down the Ku Kang army.
