《Love Death Cemetery》Chap 51: Black sun

When Hannah and Lug went down into the Wise One's crypt, he seemed to have been waiting for them.
"Lug has lost his memory." Hannah blurted out dryly.
She stood in front of him with a defiant look in her eyes.
She then went on.
"You know something I guess, what did you put him through, again?"
The usual smirk appeared on the ghost's lips.
"Come on, Hannah. Do you think so little of me?"
"Way more than that." she said.
The Wise One rolled his eyes, in disapproval.
"Bring him over here, I don't know what happened but I felt something unusual, two days ago."
Hannah pointed to Lug to go sit in the half-broken chair at the back of the room.
He looked wary and slightly scared.
"Why is Hannah talking to herself? Why are we in this crypt?" were some of the thoughts that ran through his head.
Still, he trusted her and went to sit down.
The Wise One placed his hands just above Lug's head.
He closed his eyes and seemed to be focusing.
"Mmmh... Yes... Yes... He has completely shut down his energy centers. He can't see ghosts anymore and his psychic body is almost non-existent."
"Is that bad?" Hannah asked, concerned.
"For such a short period of time ? No, but there's something I don't understand." said the Wise One as he opened his eyes again.
"What is it?" Hannah asked.
"I felt his energy gather around his head, then after a few minutes: nothing."
"What? Now?"
"No, two days ago." answered the Wise One, with a serious look on his face.
"He must have fried his head in training, that's all." Hannah retorted, with a false sense of relaxation.
All three were tense, all for different reasons.

Lug, because he was sitting in a crypt with Hannah talking to herself.
Hannah, because she was afraid that Lug would never get his memory back.
And the Wise One, who was tense because he did not understand the situation, but felt that something serious had happened.
The latter spoke up.
"I'm going to send a psychic shock into his brain, there is a chance that he will get his memory back, but in doing so I will reactivate his energy centers."
He rubbed his palms together as he spoke, as if to warm up.
"And... is that a problem?" Hannah asked, squinting slightly. She had her arms crossed.
"The body has an intelligence. It has many names : Subconscious, the double, the guardian of the threshold, the dragon. But this is not important. This *intelligence* tends to make the best decisions for us, when it acts. Sometimes through our reflexes, sometimes through intuition. Here, Lug's body has completely shut down its energy centers, even though they must continue to function."
"Why?" Hannah asked, cutting off the Wise One.
"Because Lug has an overflow of energy that needs to be used. If his centers stay closed for too long, his psychic energy will escape erratically into his body, and potentially develop diseases, like cancer for example." The Wise One spoke in a monotone voice, without emotion.
"But if the body is so smart, why close them in that case?"
"The only answer I can think of is: to stop something even more dangerous."
"More dangerous than death?" Hannah looked at Lug with pity as she spoke.
"More like to prevent an even more immediate death." replied the Wise One.
Lug was witnessing a one-sided discussion between Hannah and the wall.
He dared not to say anything.

But he didn't like what he heard.
"I'm going to turn them back on, we'll see what happens."
As he spoke, The Wise One placed one hand on Lug's abdomen and another over his head.
Hannah, seeing Lug lost, decided to explain to him what was going on.
"Sorry, Lug. You must be confused. But stay there a little longer, you should soon get your memory back."
Lug nodded slightly.
He then began to feel his head getting warm.
The warmth that was beginning to spread was pleasant, but it quickly turned to pain.
It became so intense, it made him close his eyes and grit his teeth.
He moaned in pain and the next moment his body began to convulse.
Hannah did not move, knowing that the Wise One was the only person who could help Lug.
She chose to trust him.
After about thirty seconds, the Wise One stepped back.
"It's done." he said.
Lug didn't move, he was slumped in the chair, his eyes closed.
Suddenly, his fingers made a slight movement.
He opened his eyes slowly.
He looked at Hannah, then back at the chair.
He looked to his right, then to his left.
Then, he began to nibble on his lower lip.
His breathing quickened.
"Lug, are you okay?" Hannah asked.
Lug began to look at his hands.
His eyes were bulging, his pupils twitching.
His breathing became more and more intense.
Suddenly, The Wise One began to shout.
"Hannah, get out of here, now !!"
He had dropped his confident look.
The slightly downturned corners of his lips implied confusion, maybe even fear.
It was the first time Hannah had seen the Wise One lose control.
"But..."
"Get out!"
She stopped thinking and obeyed him.
She ran to te exit.
Once out, the large metal doors of the tomb closed behind her.
In the crypt, Lug had just taken a sudden deep breath through his mouth, as if he had just spent several minutes in apnea.
At the same time, his pupils began to dilate.
Lug suddenly found himself in a large empty space.
It looked like a plain.
But everything was black.
One thing caught his attention.
In the sky, a black sun was enthroned.

Noli Me Tank in a Mall
Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo are important cultural works that ignited the Philippine Revolution against Spain. They are novels that exposed to the populace the abuses and the injustices of their Spanish colonial rulers, the hypocrisy of their priests, and inherent cruelty of their class structure over the powerless masses. Unfortunately, they rose up in the middle of the Spanish-American War, one which saw Spain lose most of their overseas colonies and decisively end as a World Power. The war ended in the 1898 Treaty of Paris, in which Spain also sold the Philippines to the USA for the sum of twenty million dollars. The revolutionary government was then crushed by the overwhelming military might of the United States and the Philippines turned into a territory. While the Philippines stands as the USA's greatest successes in nation-building, their early occupation left almost one-fifth of the population dead from combat and disease. Jose Rizal was executed by the Spanish long before knowing what might happen to his country. The world presented within The Noli and the El Fili is therefore stuck frozen in time, forever caught in that moment before a Revolution. Now let's see what happens to this nation if we give it the Light Novel treatment and jam the entirety of the Internet into their protagonist's skull and watch him try to fix things with his unfortunate tendency to sound like a supervillain. Updates Mondays and Fridays. Note: The Noli and El Fili have been public domain since 1946. This is completely fair game.
