From The Strongest Job of Dragon Knight, To The Beginner Job Carrier, Somehow, The Heroes are Depending on Me Volume 2 Chapter 29
Translator: “Pink Tea” Editor: “Ryunakama”
After getting rid of the jackalopes, who for some reason were near the coastline, we continued our journey after applying first aid and checking our equipment, but—
「Axel-san. If you find anything strange in our movements, tell us without any hesitation… Please! To fix that I’ll do my best……I will do my best!」
「Yes. As George says, please!」
「Eh? Aah, well, I understand. If I notice anything.」
Not long ago such an exchange happened along the way.
Furthermore, since then, they’ve come to be more friendly in their interactions.
George changed the way he speaks to me, and I somewhat feel that even the way he looks at me has changed.
At least, he completely stopped giving me looks that contained negative sentiments.
……Well, being on good terms makes a lot of things easier, being able to convey my intentions with more ease is surely a welcome thing.
However, it makes me doubt if I’m properly fulfilling my duty as an observer.
After all, it’s my first time in this role.
It was said that this is a derivation of a support role, so I’m going at it with that in mind, but I’m not sure if this is the correct way. That’s why—
「I also want to ask something. Are there any points that should be improved in my work as an observer?」
I asked, but—
「No, there is none!」
「Truly so. You are doing absolutely amazing, Axel-san.」
These answers came back, which in a way doesn’t serve as an answer at all.
It’s fine if there is nothing wrong, but I’m still at a loss on general criteria—

… Yea, that’s right. If I don’t understand, then I will just act while taking that into account as well.
It will also lead to my growth as a carrier and will be good for the future.
I still want to increase the number of things I can do, so I guess I will go with trial and error this time.
……Speaking of growth, lately, checking the skill sheet became quite an ordinary thing.
I’ll check all of the new skills at once at a later date.
And while I thought that, we came out of the woodlands and arrived at the coast littered with huge boulders.
「Ehm, this is the survey point this time.」
「Yes. Let’s begin checking the areas where magic beasts are likely to appear right away. George, let’s go.」
「Aye, sure thing, sis.」
Cecile and George were moving along the rugged, rocky shore, from time to time they glanced at the jewel they each had on their wrists.
「This jewel should react if powerful magic stones or magic tools made from such are nearby, but…… Ah, speak of the devil.」
Saying that Cecile showed me and George the jewel, that was now clouded in white color.
「Since there is a reaction, it means that there is something in this area. But with this terrain, it might be hard to locate a magic stone.」
Magic stones, being an embodiment of magic power, differ in color from ordinary stones, but only a few of them are big enough to stand out. That was probably the reason for Cecile’s sour smile—
「Well, the jewel is supposed to turn even more clouded the closer it gets to the source of strong magic power, so let’s search using that as a reference. ……Axel-san, if you find anything unusual please tell us.」

「Yea, got it.」
Then, as we tried to search the area relying on the color changes of the jewels, I noticed something when I took a look above the rocks.
「… Mm? What is that?」
「What’s wrong, Axel-san?」
「Well, over there. I thought that the color of the water is strange.」
In my line of sight, the sea surface a little away from the coast was purple in color.
「Oh, really. And also…… Getting closer to that area changes the color of the jewel……」
After Cecile took just a few steps on the shore, the whole jewel turned white.
「Which means that that color comes from a magic stone ……Does it mean that it’s being dissolved somewhere?」
Cecile analyzed while knitting her eyebrows, then—
「Nee-san. Axel-san. It seems like this color comes from the cave over there.」
George said, pointing at the huge rock that looked like it had a hole drilled through it.
Certainly, the closer sea to the cave ahead of us, had a deeper purple color to it.
And on the contrary, the purple gradually faded the farther into the open sea, turning into an ordinary blue.
That’s why they couldn’t notice it from the town.
「There is a high possibility that the cause is inside that case, I guess we have no choice but to go inside.」
As she said that, Cecile made her way to the cave. George goes along with it, and so do I, following after them, and a few minutes later.
「First, let’s check from here.」
We arrived at the entrance of the cave and quietly peeked inside.
I didn’t realize it from outside, but the cave had no ceiling and light was illuminating the interior. Because of that, the visibility was pretty good, revealing the cove inside.
And I also saw a person, standing on a rock right at the center of the cove, as well as the fact that that person was sprinkling something similar to pebbles and powder into the surrounding seawater.
「… Axel-san, George, to me it looks like the water is changing where it comes in contact with whatever that person is throwing there, it isn’t my imagination, isn’t it?」
「It looks like that to me as well.」
「Same as Axel-san, Nee-san.」
After those words, Cecile exchanged glances with George and then with me—
「It seems that we haven’t been noticed yet. We will go first and ask about the circumstances from that person, can we ask Axel-san to stay back and cover us from behind?」
She asked for confirmation in a small voice. Thus, I replied with a nod, to which a smile bloomed on her face—
「Then, let’s go, George.」
「Yeah…」
The two proceeded deeper into the cave, trying not to make any noise.
And so did I, thinking about fulfilling my task as an observer as I followed after them.

A collection of short stories, probably macabre in nature, and hopefully cathartic to read. There is no connecting thread tying them together, so feel free to skip around and read whatever sounds interesting.
