Chapter 563: Curator’s Circle of Friends
Truth be told, Lin Jin had no problems dishing out attacks. However, if he revealed his most accomplished spells and pet beast, people would be reminded of Lin Jin.
After all, Curator and Lin Jin were the same people.
Besides the Vulcan Edict, every other spell he performed would leave them with an impression of Lin Jin, especially his pet beast. As Curator, he couldn’t possibly release Xiao Huo. Otherwise, even fools would start to get suspicious.
Forget his previous opponents, this one was actively out to kill him. While Lin Jin was thinking of a way to handle this dilemma, Zhao Jingyan surprised him when she took action against the enemy.
As Phoenix Palace’s Great Commander, Zhao Jingyan’s strength was not to be questioned.
Already a skilled individual who inherited Phoenix Palace’s teachings, she even had a legendary pet beast, a Rank 5 phoenix. The creature had undergone Nirvana, so in Lin Jin’s opinion, her phoenix was now stronger than Xiao Huo.
Screeching at the top of its lungs, the phoenix immediately engaged the zombie dragon in a heated battle.
Seeing this, Corpse Taoist couldn’t resist calling out, “Phoenix Palace! You are the Great Commander of Phoenix Palace, Zhao Jingyan? I have no grudges against Phoenix Palace, so why do you have to come to Curator’s aid and trouble me?”
Zhao Jingyan’s phoenix was powerful enough to keep the dragon busy. What worried Corpse Taoist was the fact that Curator hadn’t taken action yet.
For a moment there, Corpse Taoist felt so grim that he couldn’t resist the urge to speak out.
Zhao Jingyan answered easily, “Curator’s issue is Phoenix Palace’s issue!”
Her declaration made clear her stance; she stood with Curator.
“Hmph! Do you think I’ll be afraid of Phoenix Palace?” Seeing how resolved Zhao Jingyan was in helping Curator, Corpse Taoist toughened up.
The average dragon might find Phoenix Palace’s phoenix a challenging opponent, but Corpse Taoist’s dragon was a zombie who had been cultivating for several hundred years. It didn’t fear a phoenix’s fire.

Corpse Taoist activated an enhancing spell and the zombie dragon’s death aura began to overflow. Down its back, sharp spikes emerged, and the zombie dragon’s strength was increased by thirty percent.
The phoenix began to struggle.
Zhao Jingyan had cast enhancement spells too but Corpse Taoist was far too superior.
“Curator, since you have no pity for the maiden, I will kill this woman and her phoenix first before devouring you alive!” cackled Corpse Taiost before moving to attack.
However, the instant Zhao Jingyan’s attack faltered, both Shu Xiaolou and Shang’er joined in the offensive, besieging Corpse Taoist.
This small team of three women, consisting of a human, a monster, and a painting spirit, was a force to be reckoned with. When they attacked together, Corpse Taoist’s advance was immediately cut off.
By now, Lin Jin became a bystander.
‘Looks like I won’t need to do anything after all,’ Lin Jin thought as he watched the battle.
That was a good thing.
Had he been playing as Lin Jin, he could have fought without reserve, unleashing Xiao Huo and borrowing the blood ghost’s strength. However, he was wearing Curator’s mask now, so he had to steel himself.
This also gave Lin Jin a warning.
If he intended to continue revealing himself in public as Curator, he had to learn a few spells unique to Curator alone. That, or he would have to get Curator a pet beast. He would be okay against normal enemies, but when faced with opponents like Corpse Taoist, he was in danger of revealing himself.
Spells were easy. Lin Jin had found a few powerful spells in Daojun’s Hieroglyphic which he had recorded down. He only needed time to assimilate the formula before he could use them.
As for pet beasts, that was easy too. He just had to raise another monster.
For now, this crisis still had to be overcome.
Honestly, Lin Jin found Corpse Taoist to be rather dumb. Perhaps the fact that he was only a zombie head dulled his thinking too.

That man was dumb enough to assume that he could kill Lin Jin here in Heavenly Spiral City. Perhaps his inflated ego had more to do with this?
Wasn’t this too much of a joke?
Heavenly Spiral Academy would never allow it, much less so when he had a capable friend like Shu Xiaolou. With Shu Xiaolou leading the battle, even the nation’s emperor had to participate in the war.
Corpse Taoist hadn’t clarified this before he came here. Perhaps he was aware of this, but he was dizzied with rage. Or maybe, he was confident because he controlled a zombie dragon.
“Alright, I’ll show you today that two heads are better than one.” Flipping his finger over, a dab of ink appeared on his fingertip.
This was Lin Jin’s Cosmic Ink.
When it came to the usage of Cosmic Ink, Lin Jin couldn’t compare to Shu Xiaolou at all. Shu Xiaolou was a connoisseur who had achieved pinnacle mastery over the skill compared to the beginner that was Lin Jin.
However, he was still capable of transporting anything in a short distance.
Corpse Taoist may have used the gray clouds as a barrier to prevent others from coming in to help, but he couldn’t block the Cosmic Ink.
A door opened behind Lin Jin, and for a moment there, Lin Jin saw someone outside who delighted him.
“Come!”
Pointing from a distance, the dab of ink shot through the death energy, passing through clouds to splash onto the little officer.
Before the latter knew it, he was transported to Lin Jin’s side.
“Great monster, Xuanwu, now that Corpse Taoist has come to invade Heavenly Spiral Kingdom, you can’t possibly just watch the battle from the sidelines,” explained Lin Jin with a chuckle. “Just take it as doing a favor for me.”
The little officer was stunned. After looking around, he laughed heartily. “Looks like Curator has friends everywhere. Not only Senior Shu, but even Phoenix Palace has come to help. Since that’s the case, allow me to be the icing on the cake.”
Monster energy overflowed from the little officer’s body.
His monster aura was distinct from the rest.
It was grand, and it had hints of divinity.
After the monster energy started flowing, the court officer transformed into a massive mountain-like tortoise.
This was the great monster beast, Xuanwu.
In Lin Jin’s opinion, Xuanwu was already at Rank 6 in some aspects. Shang’er surely couldn’t compete with him. Even Shu Xiaolou might find herself losing if she were to fight him with strength alone.
Now that Heavenly Spiral’s greatest guardian monster had been tricked into helping him, Lin Jin thought this was better than engaging the enemy directly.
Their earlier battle arrangement had been somewhat lacking, but now that Xuanwu has joined the tango, Corpse Taoist was in danger.
Lin Jin had been observing from the sidelines all this while so he could tell this much.
‘As expected of a great monster!’ Lin Jin couldn’t resist exclaiming on the inside when Xuanwu’s participation immediately subdued the zombie dragon. Corpse Taoist was forced to tumble back in exasperation.
Amazing.
That was a given. Xuanwu could never be underestimated, considering how he was capable of being selected to be Heavenly Spiral’s guardian beast and a personal guardian of the emperor. He must have made a great contribution to Heavenly Spiral’s status as a premium nation, so in a sense, Xuanwu represented Heavenly Spiral’s strongest force.
Corpse Taoist was no longer a worthy opponent now.
It was obvious who would emerge the victor of this battle.
No matter how frustrated Corpse Taoist was, he was forced to realize that his advantage was gone. He had miscalculated from the start. He worked with the assumption that no matter how powerful Curator was, he could still slaughter Curator with the group of experts he brought.
To his horror, he had already been forced into a corner by Curator’s allies before the man himself even made a move.

Winter Fire [ Book 1 ] ✔
On the second jump, Claire's bad leg gave way and she felt herself tumbling forward. A cry of surprise escaped her and Claire was certain she was about to topple off the side of the train. Alek, however, moved quickly, catching her mid-fall and keeping her upright, and alive. Claire lifted her eyes to meet his which were wide with alarm. The expression was fleeting, lasting for only a moment before it was replaced by a frown. "You could have fallen," he said pointedly."I know," Claire breathed, finding her thoughts drifting to the strong arm wrapped around her waist. A flush rose to her cheeks and she was grateful for the biting wind that masked her reaction. "Thank you.""You need to be more careful," he continued, his eyes locked on hers, bright and haunting in the silver glow of the moon overhead."I will," Claire assured him, her heart skipping in her chest.
