Chapter 637: 637
Chapter 637: Couldn’t Possibly Cough It Up
Lin Jin knew that he wasn’t weak. In the mainlands, he could easily overpower a premium country or an organization of equal strength; he was free to do anything he liked without worrying about the consequences if there were any.
Strength was the source of his confidence.
However, this was the extraterritorial zone. Magic treasures aside, everyone here topped Lin Jin in terms of cultivation level.
They were all immortals.
Fortunately, Lin Jin could compensate his shortcomings with other aspects of himself.
He had many powerful magic treasures that put him on par with immortals. Additionally, with the blood ghost and its newly-gained immortal beast status protecting his body, Lin Jin would put up a nasty fight if worse comes to worst.
The biggest hurdle at the moment was Lin Jin’s inability to retrieve the spirit water. It had been drained entirely into the Four Ocean Gourd. After an initial examination, it appeared that the spirit water had been devoured by the water reservoir scale which was embedded within the gourd.
What was eaten could never be coughed up. There was no technique Lin Jin could use to force it out either.
Tension was on the rise. What surprised Lin Jin was that Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren stood by his side, ready to defend him against hostile immortals. Dopey Bear, who sensed the rising tension in the air started emitting a dangerous fighting spirit as well.
Since Dopey Bear was on a full stomach, its strength was doubled. The bear alone could take on several immortals.
Lin Jin quickly assessed their overall combat strength. It was apparent that their side would fall, and he would be dragging Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren down with him.
Since they treated him as a friend, Lin Jin didn’t think it was right to give them trouble.
However, how was he going to cough up the spirit water?
Should he explain himself?

Even if he told the truth, no one would believe him so that was out of the question. He could only find other ways to resolve this crisis.
Then, a sudden idea came to mind.
Lin Jin turned to a few immortals and saluted them. “Fellow Taoists of the Mystery Dao Sect, I am acquainted with Chen Xuankong, a member of your sect. It was my master who taught your sect how to chase the Black Mountain Honey Badger away. I have come here to visit the Mystery Dao Sect.”
His words stunned the crowd and everyone turned to the immortals from the Mystery Dao Sect.
The Mystery Dao Sect was a well-known group that operated in this area since they were a highly orthodox immortal sect. During the peak of the immortal era, they were an existence that stood at top of the hierarchy.
Even now, they were still a formidable faction in the extraterritorial land. Miao Yan Zhenren, in particular, was a genuine profound immortal who had lived for three millenniums. Your average immortal would think twice before provoking him.
The immortals of the Mystery Dao Sect were stunned too.
Astonished, their leader studied Lin Jin before asking, “Are you perhaps the disciple of that unfettered immortal Senior Xuankong mentioned?”
Gasp!
Upon hearing this, every person here drew in a breath of cold air.
An unfettered immortal?
What kind of joke was that?!
When the path of immortality fell to ruin two thousand years ago, unfettered immortals were no longer heard of. Today, here in the extraterritorial zone, profound immortals had become the highest existences while unfettered immortals faded into legends.
When they heard the immortal mention that Lin Jin was the disciple of an unfettered immortal, the flames in their heart was put out by a bucket of cold water. Even the spirits of the Water-Crossing Buddha and Immortal Du faded away.
An unfettered immortal’s disciple wasn’t someone they could afford to offend.
Forget hogging the spirit water, even if he punched them in their faces or spat at them, they wouldn’t dare make a sound.

The faint-hearted ones were already sweating bullets, and they prepared to leave.
Some were doubtful.
During the great immortal tragedy, the wrath of heaven killed every unfettered immortal in existence. In other words, unfettered immortals couldn’t possibly exist in this world anymore.
Who had seen one over the past thousands of years?
No one.
The chances of an unfettered immortal’s disciple showing up here were next to zero.
‘Could this be an act put together by the Mystery Dao Sect and that Lin Jin person?’
A sizeable portion of the crowd shared the same suspicion.
If this theory was correct, the Mystery Dao Sect would be hogging all of the spirit water.
It was possible.
For a moment there, shock and suspicion filled their minds.
Lin Jin nodded at the Mystery Dao Sect’s immortal before taking this opportunity to lead Zuo Men, Huang Shi Sanren, and Dopey Bear over to them. No one stopped them.
“May I ask your name?” Lin Jin asked the immortal from the Mystery Dao Sect. Since the immortal was much older than Lin Jin, he tried his best to avoid sounding rude.
The immortal saluted him quickly and replied, “I am Liu Xuanji of the Mystery Dao Sect.”
“Ah, Taoist Xuanji!” exclaimed Lin Jin casually as he returned a salute. He was pleased on the inside.
Good, very good.
He didn’t expect things to go so smoothly. In the beginning, he was desperate to rely on anyone that could help him resolve the crisis, and in the end, he settled with Mystery Dao Sect.
Who knew that Xuanji would be so sensible.
His mention of Lin Jin being the disciple of an unfettered immortal made even Lin Jin blush.
However, now wasn’t the time for dignity. If it could solve his problem, Lin Jin didn’t care for his dignity.
Moreover, it was something to be proud of. If news of him being the disciple of an unfettered immortal got out, no one would try to provoke him.
Even the forceful Immortal Du and the other loose immortals silently gave up. No one mentioned the spirit water anymore.
Again, no matter where it was, power was the supreme truth.
Only with truth, could a person conquer the world!
“I’ve been wanting to visit the Mystery Dao Sect. What a coincidence that I came across Taoist Xuanji. I wonder if you will be willing to show me the way?” asked Lin Jin courteously.
Liu Xuanji was more than willing to.
He had long forgotten about the spirit water. More accurately, he dared not pursue the matter. Before Lin Jin announced his identity, he was curious as to who he was, especially after he drained the entire spirit pond.
And now, the mystery was solved.
Wouldn’t it be normal for an unfettered immortal’s disciple to have such competence?
Lin Jin might have even come here on his master’s orders.
Anyhow, the spirit water was no longer part of the Mystery Dao Sect agenda anymore. Since Lin Jin wanted to visit them, he had to quickly show Lin Jin the way.
No one stopped them.
While the others still had doubts, no one was brave enough to act on their suspicions.
What if Lin Jin truly was an unfettered immortal’s disciple? Wouldn’t they just be courting death?
At this point, their emotions were irrelevant.
They could only watch as Lin Jin sauntered away.
Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren felt as if they were in a dream. They had been ready to give their all but the situation suddenly turned in their favor.
The fact that Lin Jin was a disciple of an unfettered immortal made them sense a growing distance between them. After their group left the valley, Zuo Men and Huang Shi Sanren decided to say their goodbyes.

When humans with the ability to control the fundamental particles of the universe with their minds were first discovered, the age of space travel began in earnest. Relativistic travel faster than the speed of light became possible and humanity moved out into the stars. When it was discovered that these Mages could be turned into effective weapons, humanity turned back to its oldest pastime of war. Hundreds of years later as humanity was on the brink of self-destruction, with its taste for war finally beginning to wane, a new organization was created. The Conclave was formed to regulate all Mage’s within the human colonies. While the colonies maintained their independence, the Conclave’s control over access to interstellar travel made them the de facto power amongst humanity. As the old saying goes, ‘Power Corrupts’, and many people were unhappy with the way the Conclave had been leveraging its authority, not the least of which were the Mages they controlled.
