Chapter 642: Your Injuries Are Pretty Severe
Chapter 642: Your Injuries Are Pretty Severe
No one but unfettered immortals had this sort of ability.
Instead of putting on airs, Miao Yan Zhenren spoke courteously for the sake of Mr. Qi.
Lin Jin was delighted inwardly.
This gave him an excuse to stop.
He couldn’t afford to provoke this Rank 8 Qirin. Lin Jin didn’t plan on doing anything to him anyway, so he went with the flow and returned Miao Yan Zhenren a salute.
“Do excuse me, Zhenren, as I was unaware of Mr. Qi’s identity earlier. Now that I have heard your explanation, I shall not do anything to him.”
Having said that, Lin Jin removed the cloud cell and Mr. Qi came out at once. He was surprised to see Miao Yan Zhenren before his psyche flew back into his own body.
Miao Yan Zhenren smiled and returned as well.
With this, all three of their psyches returned to their bodies. That brief moment of silence was a hint to the elders and disciples that something had happened. They saw Mr. Qi raise his head first before retreating from the scene. This confounded everyone.
Even so, no one stopped him.
This was Mr. Qi after all; no one in the entire Mystery Dao Sect dared to disrespect him.
Mian Yan Zhenren said, “I will be going into seclusion with Taoist Lin to discuss the Tao. Other elders and disciples may leave now.”
As the leader of their sect, and as a profound immortal, no one would defy Miao Yan Zhenren’s orders, including Chen Xuankong. Everyone saluted him before excusing themselves, leaving Lin Jin and Miao Yan Zhenren alone in the spacious hall.
“Taoist Lin, you mentioned earlier that you’ve figured out Mr. Qi’s identity, yes?” asked Miao Yan Zhenren.
He only sent the others away because of what Lin Jin had said to him.
After all, besides the Mystery Dao Sect, no one else knew about Mr. Qi’s true form. Prior to this, Miao Yan Zhenren even asked Chen Xuankong if the latter had told Curator or Lin Jin about Mr. Qi, to which Chen Xuankong answered, ‘no’.

That being the case, how did Lin Jin manage to discover the truth?
Lin Jin could tell that Miao Yan Zhenren was testing him.
Indeed, although that Qirin beast was severely wounded, his Transfiguration remained impeccable. After all, an injury rarely caused one’s spell proficiency to regress.
In other words, the Qirin’s Transfiguration was still the standard of a Rank 8.
What’s more, the Qirin had probably been practicing Transfiguration for four thousand years or longer, allowing it to achieve complete mastery over the spell long ago. Forget normal people, even those with a higher cultivation or immortals who had practiced divine vision spells may not be able to tell that he wasn’t a human. That included profound immortals.
How then did a mere mortal discover the truth behind Mr. Qi’s identity even though this was the first time they met?
Miao Yan didn’t believe it.
It was because of his skepticism that he wanted to find out the truth.
He hoped his assumption was wrong, but his gut told him that Lin Jin was actually aware of Mr. Qi’s real identity. The only question here was how did he find that out.
After all, Lin Jin wasn’t Curator, but a mere mortal.
Subsequently, Miao Yan Zhenren saw Lin Jin nod.
He tensed up and asked, “Really? Then, can you tell me your findings?”
He was obviously still skeptical.
If Lin Jin’s answer was incorrect, he would know that Lin Jin was just bluffing, which was what he hoped for. However, he was shocked by Lin Jin’s elaboration.
“Mr. Qi isn’t an immortal. He’s not even human, but an immortal beast taking on a human form,” Lin Jin said directly.
His answer was so direct that Miao Yan Zhenren thought, ‘So he could actually tell! Very impressive.’
“You noticed?” asked a voice from behind of Lin Jin. It came so abruptly that Lin Jin was startled. When he turned around, he realized that Mr. Qi had returned. Or rather, he just faked his departure and had remained here all this while. He merely used a spell to conceal his presence.

His ability was so profound that even Lin Jin failed to detect him.
After all, Mr. Qi was much stronger than Miao Yan Zhenren, so strictly speaking, Lin Jin couldn’t compare to him at all. He only managed to trap Mr. Qi’s psyche earlier thanks to the unique constitution of his psyche.
This immortal beast was evidently curious about Lin Jin so he feigned a retreat because he wanted to observe Lin Jin in secret. When he heard Lin Jin say that he could tell he wasn’t human, but a transformed immortal beast, he couldn’t resist revealing his presence to speak to the man personally.
“So Mr. Qi hasn’t left yet?” Lin Jin composed himself and thought, ‘This Mr. Qi has quite a strange personality. Why can’t he just ask questions directly instead of probing around suspiciously?’
Mr. Qi’s odd personality was once again demonstrated when he deliberately faked his departure to observe Lin Jin in secret. If Mr. Qi wasn’t a Rank 8 immortal beast, Lin Jin might have already lost his patience.
Mr. Qi seemed to have realized how rude he was too, so after a thought, he saluted.
“Apologies for my rudeness, but how did Mr. Lin tell that I am not human? Please enlighten me.”
Since he apologized, Lin Jin’s anger subsided. Now, instead of anger, he felt delighted.
Finally, he met a living, breathing, Rank 8 immortal beast who wasn’t hostile. It even seemed friendly, so Lin Jin was unsurprisingly happy.
Back in the Nine Heaven Realm, he met a pompous dragon, the Golden Crow, and other powerful beasts. They were all Rank 6 and above, but none of them gave him the time of day.
Had they detected his presence, they might have even swooped down and killed him.
And after entering the extraterritorial zone, Lin Jin realized how wild and brutal the beasts here were. These creatures killed everything on sight, with Dopey Bear being the exception. Still, Dopey Bear’s rank couldn’t compare to this Qirin’s.
This Rank 8 Qirin had the highest possibility of evolving and fighting that Rank 9 immortal devouring beast.
This explained Lin Jin’s sudden change in mood.
Of course, he wouldn’t show it. After thinking about it, he cleared his throat before a mysterious grin appeared on his face. “I carried out an evaluation, of course. In fact, I am a beast appraiser. A Rank 4 beast appraiser to be specific.”
Lin Jin revealed the four-ringed beast pattern on his sleeve.
It wasn’t long before he remembered this wasn’t the mainlands. The immortals here didn’t know about beast appraisers or their ranking system.
Sure enough, the Qirin looked confused. Miao Yan Zhenren was the same.
Lin Jin gave them an awkward smile. “It’s one of the professions we have in the mainlands. We mainly appraise beasts for a living. Immortal beasts are beasts too, so we’re able to appraise them as well!”
As he spoke, Lin Jin flung his sleeve to make himself seem more dignified.
Mr. Qi and Miao Yan Zhenren understood now.
“So Mr. Lin does hail from the mainlands. Then, is your master from the mainlands…” Miao Yan Zhenren said what came to his mind.
Seeing Lin Jin nod in response, he was shocked.
Mr. Qi seemed more interested in Lin Jin’s beast appraiser identity.
“Mr. Lin, what else can you tell about me?”
Lin Jin knew Mr. Qi had a request, so he decided to make the first move.
“I can also tell that you’re heavily injured!” replied Lin Jin solemnly.
Mr. Qi started breathing heavily and he took a step forward. “Mister, is there a way to treat it?”
