Chapter 499:Chapter 497, handover
Translator: Dragon Boat Translation Editor:Dragon Boat Translation
After leaving Yi City, Chen Chen went to rising dragon city.
Rising Dragon City was only 20,000 miles away from Li Xian sect and gold saint sect. Even if they did not use the teleportation array, it would not take much time.
In the upper realm, there were only a few people who took the teleportation array when they went out. Most of the middle and low level cultivators chose to fly. They would only take the teleportation array once unless they encountered something urgent.
Therefore, although some distant cities could be reached by the teleportation array after a few trips, in fact, the connection between the cities was not very close, or even cut off.
For example, although rising dragon city was a city under the control of Heavenly Devil City, it did not have a close connection with the other cities in Heavenly Devil City. On the contrary, it was closer to the nearby cities.
However, due to its large background, the nearby cities were usually bullied by rising dragon city.
After half a day, Chen Chen arrived in front of the city gate of Rising Dragon City.
Compared to other nearby cities, this city was more majestic and magnificent. Even the cultivators guarding the city looked proud.
“My Lord, what brings you to Rising Dragon City? If you need anything, I can help you pass the message.”
However, when these cultivators guarding the city saw Chen Chen, their attitude was very respectful.
Because Chen Chen was wearing the clothes of an official disciple of Heavenly Devil City, his status was vastly different from those peripheral disciples.
“Tm Chen Chen, here to take over ascending dragon city.”
Chen Chen didn’t have time to waste with these gate-guarding disciples, so he directly explained his identity.
Hearing Chen Chen’s name, the city-guarding cultivator shivered, and then he actually knelt down. When the other cultivators saw this, they also knelt down.
“So it’s Lord Chen Chen! The news that you want to take over ascending dragon city has long been sent over, but I didn’t expect you to arrive so soon! If I had known earlier…”
As he spoke, he quickly turned his head and glanced at a young cultivator behind him.
“Hurry up and inform the city… Acting City Lord!”
‘As soon as he spoke, the young cultivator hurriedly stood up and flew into the city in a panic.

Many cultivators who were passing by stopped in their tracks. Their eyes were filled with curiosity and respect.
After about ten minutes, the city gate suddenly opened. More than a hundred people walked out in a mighty manner. The leader was a white-faced old man dressed in black. His eyes gave off a shrewd feeling.
“We respectfully welcome the city Lord!”
More than a hundred people shouted in unison. It had to be said that they gave Chen Chen a lot of face.
“No need to be polite. Actually, I prefer to keep a low profile.”
The comers of Chen Chen’s mouth curled up slightly, and he couldn’t help but smile.
“My lord, it’s better for you to discuss the handover with me at the city Lord’s Mansion.”
The white-faced elder smiled and said.
(If you have problems with this website, please continue reading your novel on our new website myboxnovel.com THANKS!)
Chen Chen naturally didn’t refuse, so he entered ascending dragon city under the escort of more than a hundred people.
‘As soon as he left, the surroundings immediately became noisy.
“So he is Chen Chen! The tenth disciple of the Heavenly Devil City Lord!”
“He is indeed a handsome man!”
“Hehe, now that I have become the disciple of the Heavenly Devil City Lord, you see, I will also think that I am a handsome man.”
“shh, what nonsense are you spouting!”
“My lord, these are the accounts of ascending dragon city. Please have a look.”
After entering the city Lord’s mansion, the white-faced elder handed a jade slip to Chen Chen.
Chen Chen did not stand on ceremony and directly took it and began to read it.
There were more than 300 shops of all sizes in ascending dragon city. Among them, there were 100 shops directly under ascending dragon city. If the daily flow of water was converted into spiritual crystals, the profit would be around 50 spiritual crystals, and the profit would be around five spiritual
crystals.
The remaining 200 shops were all profitable in the form of rent collection, and the profit was also around five spiritual crystals.
In total, ascending dragon city made a profit of ten crystals a day.
Although it did not sound like a lot, Chen Chen knew that the figure was not small. Ten crystals a day was equivalent to more than 3,000 crystals a year.
The entire Golden Saint sect did not even have 100 crystals in reserve. If one were to really count it, the profitability of ascending dragon city was probably no less than that of Yi City.

With the backing of Heavenly Devil City, it was indeed a good business. No Wonder Zhou Fu was willing to pay the price of an entire city to have him as a backer.
“Sir, there are 400 Sky Demon City cultivators in ascending dragon city. Among them, there are 50 split-soul cultivators. Besides me, there are two unity cultivators. As for the rest, they are all void refining cultivators.
“We control ascending dragon city and pay three thousand spirit crystals to Sky Demon City every year. Although it can’t be compared to those cities in the north, we have tried our best.”
As the white-faced old man spoke, he became sad and his eyes tured red.
In order to better take over Rising Dragon City, the former city lord was directly transferred to other places, which meant that he couldn’t stay in rising dragon city for long.
“Everyone, you’ve worked hard. In the future, you can just hand over the profits to me. You Don’t have to hand them over to omen demon city anymore.”
Chen Chen said with a smile.
Excluding the cost of cultivating cultivators, he could earn three thousand crystals a year. This was simply a hen that could drop crystals.
No wonder no small sects were allowed to build cities, regardless of whether it was the Devil City, the evil God temple, or the union of Immortals. Such benefits were still in his own hands.
“By the way, how are the profits from the teleportation array in the city?”Chen Chen asked again.
Hearing this, the faces of all the cultivators present could not help but change, and the white-faced old man’s eyes revealed a look of panic.
Chen Chen smiled but did not say anything. The teleportation array was not like selling medicinal pills and magical treasures. There was a real object there, so it was best to fake this thing.
“UH, city lord, this teleportation array consumes a lot of spirit stones. Our ascending dragon city is not profitable.”
After a moment of silence, the white-faced old man said with a slightly embarrassed expression.
Seeing this, Chen Chen smiled and said, “It doesn’t matter if there are any problems. I Won’t pursue the past matters, as long as we do things well in the future.”
Hearing this, all the cultivators heaved a long sigh of relief, and their expressions also became relaxed.
Chen Chen had learned management in his previous life. Although these cultivators were all shrewd people, they were all smelly younger brothers compared to him when it came to business.
After looking through the situation in ascending dragon city, Chen Chen looked at the white-faced old man.
“There’s no big problem. You can leave now.”
These straightforward words made the white-faced old man feel rather awkward, but he quickly reacted. After saying his goodbyes, he turned around and left.
Once he left, everyone present seemed to have lost their backbone. Their faces gradually revealed a blank look towards the future.
‘When Chen Chen saw this, he leaned back on his seat, his tone was calm as he said, “There’s a city called Yi city about 60,000 kilometers west of ascending dragon city. I’m sure all of you have heard of it. This Yi city is under the control of the Danxia sect. Although its background isn’t as big as ours, its
profits aren’t any less than ours. What do you think is the reason?”
‘When the cultivators heard this, they were all greatly frightened.
One had to know that Chen Chen was the disciple of the Heavenly Devil City’s City Lord, and the city Lord had handed over everything of ascending dragon city, including their lives.
What did he mean by saying this now? Wasn’t he saying that they were incompetent?
‘Was he going to show them his might?
But why was there a need for this? The difference in status was too big. How could they dare to have any petty plans?
“It’s your subordinates who are incompetent!”
“Please forgive us, City Lord! We will definitely work harder in the future! Strive for a profit of another 100 crystals!”
One cultivator after another extended their hands to guarantee. However, Chen Chen shook his head and chuckled, “What is 100 crystals? I think it should at least be doubled.”
“Ah!”
Once these words were said, all the cultivators present sucked in a breath of cold air.
With one or two hundred more crystals, they might be able to satisfy this new city lord.
But doubling it… even if they were to die, they wouldn’t be able to do it?
Could it be that they were being asked to sell their bodies?
Thinking of this, all the cultivators’faces fell. With such an insatiable city lord, their days in the future wouldn’t be easy..

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
