《Marauding Gods (First Draft)》Chapter 76: Remnant of the Elder Royal Princes Part 05

Later that day, still at the bottom of the sinkhole, Han and I were sitting around a bonfire. Well, to be exact, he was laying on the ground, and I was laying against him.
Today was a tough day.
I was more than just physically exhausted, both my body and mind were strained.
When compared to the time when every battle was feasted with one or two broken bones, this was rather soft, but this rest was more than well deserved.
On my lap was the sword of the Brother, the same sword with which he tried to kill us earlier.
Initially, the sword was in every way unfit. Though the weight didn’t matter much to me, its size and width were more than unfitting for my frame. It would be fitting me in five or even six other years.
But once Han did something to it, it suddenly shrank just enough to fit my size and grasp.
When I asked him how he did that, all the answer I got was a "no idea".
I didn’t insist much. This sword was a blessing for me since I lost almost everything I used as accessories: my shields, my cleave-saw, and even a big part of my appendage.
That was right, I was stripped of ¾ of my appendages this morning during the fight.
During the attack of the man, while Han enveloped me with his own body, I released my appendages and interweaved them to also envelop Han’s second vessel more or less entirely.
On top of my aina enhancement, Han also infused his lightning magic on my appendages, allowing them to protect us from that attack without being reduced to fine powder.
Though I didn’t block the damage entirely, it wore its power down to a withstandable level for Han’s second vessel.

If it weren't for that, we would be roasted by now.
In any case, I should feel lucky to have managed to get my hand on this.
But still, with it still embedded with lightning and light magic, I could still use this sword to inflict a reasonable amount of lightning and lightning damage.
It was a shame that it was no longer able to do something similar to that attack, but that kind of thing was to be expected.
"In the end, what do you think they were here for? From how things were presented, these were some from their outfit who were some sort of commander and the other undead from above were soldiers under their order. To me, they were after something, or-"
"-Someone, the woman, I heard her calling something that sounded like a name:... Mer, Pere,
Amelia was it, but on this one, I am under the impression that this was her name. "
"Do you think that "Pere" and "Mer" are in this forest?"
"Who knows. But there must’ve been someone important to them, for them to be ready to risk their lives in this place. Especially the ones who weren’t remnants. This is just a theory, but I believe that these soldiers were able to come this far thanks to that woman's magic. I doubt any regular human in a place like this with shield, armor, weapon, and aina alone. "
"You’re one to talk."
"This is this and that is that." With a yawn, I added, "Anyway, I just hope we won’t stumble upon any remnants like these two. "
"Yeah, me too."
"In any case, I’m done for today. Good night, Han."
"Good night, Hon."
Slowly but surely, I gradually fell into a deep slumber.
That night, I had the same dream as that time.

I dreamed about the dragons once again, and as always, I was floating, incapable of either speech or even movement while they, they were simply stared at me.
At this point, I dreamt about it so frequently that I was no longer surprised or even frightened by its frightening sight.
And soon, without even me realizing it, the sun rose, and the next day came.
We prepared ourselves to leave this place, for our business here was done.
But before we departed, I went toward the giant tree inside the sinkhole.
There I went to the tomb we made for the siblings.
Once we were done with that fight, we did try to retrieve the corpse of their soldier to give them a proper burial, but all their corpses disappeared.
In the end, we settled on making three gravestones.
One for the sister, one for the brother, and one for the soldiers.
This was the best I could do for them.
"Thinking of it retrospectively, I could’ve and still could end up like them."
"Huh?
"Before my battle against the DeathSeeker, I could’ve ended up like them, but unlike them, I would’ve been dead or awakened as a remnant on my own here in the middle of this forest."
"I’m still not sure what they were after or what led them to their situation, but at least in spite of all of this, they seemed to deeply care for one another."
From how the brother was holding his sister, it was clear that she was the first to fall, followed by the brother, who I assumed followed her in death by stabbing himself with his own sword.
To be honest, that fight was one of the most tasteless wins I’ve ever felt.
It only left a bitter aftertaste, as if I shouldn’t have done what I did.
that I did them wrong.
"Do you think they will meet up where they are now?" I asked in an attempt to ease off the thing I assumed was guilt in my heart.
"Who knows? Maybe, maybe not. If what we did tore apart the only link they had together, if death hadn’t already. For most, death is the point at which one must part ways regardless of the bond they share. This might also apply to both you and me. "
"Are you saying we will one day part ways?"
"Yes, I did."
"We own nothing from anyone, we took whatever was within grasp, we do not have to be sad for others nor should we apologize for what we did to them, they lived their lives, their struggles, we live ours, and we shall live at our utmost through it."
"Do not be saddened by the fact that we will part ways as we still have plenty of time. Let us use this time to create joyous and everlasting memories."
Taking his Chrackt form he spread his wings and offered me his hand.
"Come, we are done with this place. Our long journey awaits us."
"Yes."
With that, I took his hand and we proceeded, once again, to continue our long and not to end journey to the vicinity of the Iharana Great Forest.
At the time, we didn’t know who these two remnants were.
We really didn’t.
With the legacy these siblings have left to humanity, I should’ve known them.
Maybe if I knew, things would’ve gone differently for us.

The Thaumatist Incident
The towers fell over a century ago, and the Good King united the land. Under his voice the Thaumatists took the knee or took the sword. The University still stands, but for how long? This story is broken up into two parts. Chronologically, the two parts overlap. Part One Emile, a girl with a Talent not seen since the good king's war as she tries to find help to save her beloved father from a cruel accident. Julie, raised in a small farming village on her quest to become someone people will sing about. Part Two Wendel, a recent graduate of the University, an intense school that functions first as a police force to control the use of magic and secondly as an educational institution. Demetrius, a servant at the school who loses his home and his safety. Edits are ongoing. Reviews and comments will only help the editing the process, and I am grateful for any and all input. So, if you have been reading already, Jericho has been removed. It's been brought to my attention that his chapters detract from the flow of the narrative. They still exist, and are still going to be made available at some point in some way shape or form, but for the time being what happens with him and the king in Puissant city will be off camera so to speak.

THIRTEEN (Evie's Perspective)
This is the 2003 movie, Thirteen, told from the perspective of Evie Zamora. We got Tracy's point of view, but what about Evie? Why did she do the things she did?I've seen a few different interpretations of Evie's perspective and I decided to give it a go. This is how I think Evie thought and the reasons behind why she did the things she did. This is NOT canon, just a fanfiction, and I am not affiliated with Thirteen or Catherine Hardwick in any way.
