《MY Life In The Multiverse》Chapter 186: Human nature

They say, being poor is a mentality that few people recover from, and most people that interact with Yuki think of him as a cheap person whose hands wouldn't let even a drop of water slip from them, let alone money.
However, in reality, he was simply used to saving his money, he doesn't look at how much he has right now, he looks at how much he might need in the future, which is why he doesn't miss any chances to make more money.
This didn't stem from out of nowhere, in fact, it was all thanks to the harsh life he had to go through after the death of his parents and grandparents afterward…
It was then that he witnessed the real ugly side of human nature, especially when his own "Family" members who would always treat him nicely, suddenly started going at each other's throats for his grandfather's inheritance.
His grandfather Yama was a successful man, too successful in fact, and he had a large family that showered him with love and admiration, at least it so appeared during his life. However, that success didn't come out of nothing, in fact, he was a very smart man and a cold man as well. He could read people like an open book from just a glance which is why he kept his distance from his family including his own children and lived alone with his wife.
That's until Yuki's parents died in an unfortunate accident, Yuki's father was his favorite son, so his grandpa decided to take him in and raised him with the help of his wife, Yuki's grandma Rose…
However, not long after, his wife passed away and when he noticed that his final hour has come as well, his grandpa made preparations on how to split his wealth since he already knew what will happen if he left it in the hands of his children, and he made sure that Yuki (Robin) would get his fair share when the wolves start getting at each other's throats.
This is the only reason why Yuki was able to live a normal life afterward…
In fact, he always remembers his grandpa's cold eyes when he says " Having ungrateful people close to you is far worse than having a wise man as your enemy… At least the latter is honorable enough to say that he's your enemy, why the former will simply stick to you like a parasite until you are no more..."
Thanks to this, he learned how to be cheap so that he could live off the wealth his grandpa left him and build a future for himself, but most importantly, to not attract the wrong people toward him…
However, Emilia's behavior reignited that memory in him… the memory of the ungrateful people his grandpa took care of all their lives, only to turn their fangs against each other, starting with him because he didn't have anyone left…

...
"Sorry…" Emilia said, and Yuki simply let out a sigh before he replied "It's hard for me to make friends I care about, please remember this… Let's go now, the others are waiting for us"
Emilia watched as Yuki started walking through the chaotic crowd yet they parted ways for him without them even realizing that they were doing so…
Meanwhile, Emilia almost fell to her knees from the pain she was feeling in her heart, but Dariun caught her and said "We really annoyed master this time, he's too greedy to do such a thing… But you shouldn't blame yourself alone, I was too careless as well and got too excited about being in this world and forgot about myself… Sorry for causing you trouble"
Seeing the cute Dariun apologize to her cheered up Emilia slightly but she still shook her head and said "No, he's right, I shouldn't have acted this way and endangered Maou, It seems like I underestimated the strength of this world's people and… Their cruelty…"
"It's fine, Maou-san seems nice, I'm sure he won't hold a grudge against us" Dariun tried to cheer her up again and Emilia couldn't help but grow sad as she remembered the changed Demon lord and responded "I'm sure he wouldn't, that's why Yuki's acting even harsher on us… Yosh, let's follow him before he gets angry at us again"
Seeing the weird determined look on Emilia's face, Dariun was confused but he was happy anyways 'As long as she's not sad, that's all that matters…' He thought before they started following Yuki and they found themselves in front of a large building called "Galley-la Resort"
This place was truly gigantic, and it had many sections in it with many facilities, clearly it could house hundreds of people…
This is the general size of most pirate groups. After all, Luffy who had a crew made out of only a handful of members was quite the rarity in this world filled with pirates…
After approaching the place, they noticed that Yuki was talking to a slim and pretty woman with blue eyes and wearing glasses. She had strawberry-blonde hair that she kept tied up in a bun and she wore a yellow long-sleeved jacket, and high-heel boots. This was Iceburg's secretary, the same woman that led Maou to this resort.
'Who's this woman?' Emilia and Dariun wondered as they approached them and they heard Yuki negotiating with her
"Eh? 1 million Berry for 8 people staying here for 10 days? That's a bit too much don't you think?" Yuki asked but Kalifa simply pushed up her glasses and responded calmly "This is the best price you will find around here, please don't forget that you are a pirate and we risk offending the government by housing you in our property"
"Eh? I'm a Warlord you know? I'm part of the government. Aren't I supposed to receive a discount for this?" Yuki responded shamelessly and Kalifa couldn't help but wonder.

'Since you know you are a Warlord, how about you stop complaining and negotiation for this pitiful amount of money?' But she was a professional and knew how to hide her emotions, otherwise, she wouldn't be able to keep her cover for this long and even climb through the ranks to become the secretary of the mayor so she calmly responded
"Warlord or not, you are still considered a Pirate"
'Tsk, she's not budging at all, what a cheap woman' Yuki thought, but it was nothing more than the pot calling the kettle black, and Emilia and Dariun watched in amazement as Yuki paid the 1 m Berry reluctantly before he quickly ran away from Kalifa as if he was avoiding a plague…
Seeing this, Kalifa nodded in their direction and left while they followed after Yuki and entered the section allocated to them.
It wasn't that big, but Emilia was glad that at least it was separated into an area for women and another for men so she can enjoy her privacy with Mashiro…
They were currently inside the lobby, and seeing Yuki's downcast appearance, Yurei approached him with a sly smirk and asked "Oy boss, would you like me to go rob them? They must have quite a lot of money!"
Hearing this, Yuki shook his head and said "No, the people she works for aren't our enemies, in fact they are quite the good people so I rather not make them suffer" But then his eyes suddenly lit up and he said with an evil smirk "However, some idiots attacked Emilia earlier and I heard that they have been robbing people lately so they must have gathered a good sum, go check them out…"
Yurei quickly nodded excitedly and rushed out of the building like a ghost after getting enough information about his target, the Reaper pirates!
Meanwhile, the others grew concerned and Mashiro was the first to ask "Emi, are you okay?"
"I'm fine don't worry" Emilia replied with a genuine smile after seeing how concerned Mashiro was for her, and the others too followed shortly after voicing their concerns including Maou.
That's when she paused slightly before she grit her teeth and said to him "Maou, I'm sorry, I was reckless and put your life in danger because of my actions…"
Maou stared at her in shock, before he quickly swiveled his head around and stared at Yuki with his blood-red eyes and thought 'Something must have happened, these two have been keeping some distance away from each other more than usual and Emilia kept shooting Yuki glances filled with guilt secretly whenever she thinks no one is staring at her, but that old man Kayle already noticed this… He even dragged Dariun somewhere with him the moment they came here… Probably to question him about what happened, how cunning!'
Maou analyzed everything in a split second before he asked " It's fine, I'm still in one whole piece, plus I'm not that weak so don't worry too much about it"
Emilia froze slightly before she shook her head and said seriously "No, this is exactly why I should apologize… I won't put anyone's life in danger again!"
"We just have to grow stronger, this way we won't worry Yuki again, don't you think?" Maou replied with a slight smile while staring at Yuki who simply turned away as he started feeling awkward, but Emilia's eyes ignited with flames as she nodded and said "Yes, we need to start training right away"
Then she nodded at everyone before giving Mashiro a hug and went to the resort's training room, and Dariun followed after her to cheer her…
Seeing this, Maou followed after her as well and so did Rize, leaving Yuki sitting alone with Mashiro, Kayle, and Shizue…
"Yuki-sama, did you do this on purpose?" Kayle suddenly asked prompting Yuki to stare into his deep dark eyes and ask "Did what on purpose?"
Seeing that Yuki was playing dump, Kayle smiled slightly before he served them some tea and said "I heard the full story from Dariun, it's unlike you to throw away that much money for no reason… You clearly did it to teach her a lesson… As well as to get them close to each other… Just look at how Dariun is treating them already, that foolish bird doesn't get close to people so easily but he seems to think of Emilia and Maou as friends now"
Shizue and Mashiro stared at Yuki in surprise, but he simply shrugged and said "Old man, you think too highly of me, I don't think that far…"
"Hmm… fine" Kayle accepted the answer without arguing too much, but whether he believed Yuki or not, only he knew the answer to that…However, Both Shizue and Mashiro started looking at Kayle with more respect, this old man was incredibly smart, but this also brought a question to their minds…
'Such a capable man… why's he following Yuki of all people…' They wondered, but they kept this question to themselves…
Before the room could get awkward, Yuki turned his attention to Kayle and said "We have a few days in our hands, let's not waster them and go train the Rokushiki techniques…"
"As you wish, Yuki-sama" Kayle replied with a slight smile before they all moved to the training room as well… Mashiro followed after them and started painting them doing all kinds of superhuman techniques with her eyes glittering!

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
