《As You Wish : Loki Fanfic》Disappointments

A good situation was never good for long.
One morning when Loki and I had gotten out of the shower, he wrapped a towel around me and dried me off. I smiled and kissed him before trekking to my closet to get dressed. As I walked passed the bed, my phone started ringing from the nightstand. I walked over to look at the called ID, but all it said was 'Unknown Caller'. I furrowed my brows, it was still a bit early for telemarketers, so I picked up the phone. It could have been important.
And, important it was. As soon as I answered with my usual 'Hello', the voice on the other end made me freeze.
"Long time, no talk, Flash, or do you prefer 'Traveler' now?"
My blood ran cold. Rumlow... I muted the call quickly.
"FRIDAY, record, trace, and broadcast the audio in real time to the others!" I yelled, alerting Loki. He walked to me with furrowed brows and I put the call on speaker and unmuted it.
"What do you want, Rumlow?" I hissed.
"Oh, just to speak to an old friend." His voice was taunting as he said it.
"We're not friends and we never were."
"Awe, Sammee, don't be like that." Rumlow sighed. Disgust bubbled up my throat at the sound of my name coming from his mouth. "I just wanted to let you know that I hope to see you soon. Very soon, but you'll have to find me first. Take care, now." He said before the line went dead.
My fingers were in a crushing grip on my phone, my knuckles white. My jaw was clenched as I tried to keep bile down.
"FRIDAY?" I asked the A.I.
"My apologies, the signal is being bounced off of different phone towers around the world. It will take some time to pinpoint the exact location." FRIDAY told me. She actually sounded sorry.
I sighed heavily and rubbed my eyes, a stress headache already starting. I then dialed another number and held the phone to my ear.
"Midtown School of Science, this is Beth, how may I assist you?" The receptionist at the school answered. She always got in super early and left around mid-day.
"Hi, Beth, this is Sarah Smith. My husband and I won't be able to make it in today, it seems we've caught a fever. I'm so sorry for the short notice. Please let Miriam know." I told the woman. Miriam was our VP, but she was acting as President until a replacement was found.
"Do you need tomorrow off as well?"
"No, just today. We should be fine by tomorrow. It's just a small bug." I told her. "Alright, I'll pass her the note. Get well soon, Sarah!"
"Thanks, Beth." I said before hanging up.
"Meet us in conference room two, Skydive." Tony's voice came over the speakers. Loki and I looked at each other before I got dressed and we headed to the conference room. Today was going to suck.
"So, Rumlow lived." Sam said as we walked through the door. I nodded with a sigh.

"He's a pain in the ass, too. Causes so many problems." I grumbled.
"But, he contacted you to taunt you." Steve said. "Why not me or Sam?" He asked. Loki and I looked at each other.
"I-Uh kind of... killed his entire team." I explained. "Well, Bucky and I did."
"He wants revenge." Tony said as he paced the head of the room. I sat down, tired from just watching him.
"He'll lose." I sighed out heavily. I was always annoyed by Rumlow, today was no different. "He's still only human." I told everyone as I closed my eyes and rested my head back on the chair.
"So, what's our plan?" Rhodey asked.
"Let's track his movements, see if we can get his location." Steve spoke in that tone that demanded everyone's attention and cooperation. Tony finally stopped pacing and put his hands on the table, leaning forward.
"Good thinking having FRIDAY trace the call, Skydive. Unfortunately, it did nothing, but now that I know he's out there, I'll find him."
When Loki and I went to school the next day, all the students were on their phones, laughing and gossiping. It was a lot more than normal, and I didn't know why until after first period.
"Mrs. Smith?" Peter asked after class had ended. He looked nervous, but determined.
"Yes, Peter? What is it?" I questioned as I sorted through some paperwork the kids turned in today.
"I-uhm, I need to speak with you privately, if I can..." He half whispered. I finally looked up at him in concern.
"Of course, give me a second." I told him and stood from my desk. "Alright, everyone, I need the room. Grab you're stuff and get to your next class, please."
All the stragglers started to clear out and the few students that came in to the classroom early, I asked to step out. Once everyone, but me and Peter, was out, I closed the door.
"What's going on, Peter?" I asked the boy seriously. He shifted on his feet for a second before meeting my eyes.
"You know that girl, Angela, I think her name is? She's in the next class?" Peter asked. I nodded and gesture for him to continue. "Well, one of the older boys- uhm- took pictures of her in a... intimate moment..." Peter told me. His cheeks were dusted pink and he dropped his gaze back to the floor. "They've been sharing the pictures around the school and Angela is getting harassed pretty badly. I would walk her to her classes, but..." Peter trailed off, looking very ashamed and frustrated.
"You're not big enough to protect her." I finished for him. Peter huffed, but nodded his head.
"I don't know what to do. I don't want to go to the principal and get her in trouble."
"Why would Angela get in trouble?" I asked him and crossed my arms over my chest. Peter glanced back up at me and pressed his lips into a thin line.

"I've... I've heard rumors of this happening before. It never ended well for the girls." Peter said.
"What do you mean?" I asked, narrowing my eyes slightly.
"Well... Principal Davis, and again this is just a rumor, but he doesn't do anything to protect the female students."
"Is that right?" I questioned with a sharpness to my voice. I took a few deep breaths before responding further. "Thank you, Peter, for telling me."
Angela Decaro was a sophomore in the class after Peters. She was a pretty girl. Innocent, easily manipulated and those qualities attracted teenage fuckboi's like crazy.
"Don't worry, I'll handle it, Peter."
Peter left and the next class started. I looked for Angela and, when she didn't she up, I got worried. The late bell rang and she still wasn't in her seat.
"Does anyone know where Angela is?" I asked the class. One of the 'it' boys replied with a cocky smirk.
"Probably in the bathroom taking pictures." He said, not knowing that I understood his 'joke'.
"Congratulations, Mr. Abbot, you just earned yourself a week in I.S.S. and a month in after school detention." I said flatly. The boys attitude switch up real quick.
"Wh- bu- Mrs. Smith!" He exclaimed.
"You had the opportunity to help a girl and instead decided to tear her down. It's truly despicable and disgusting. I have no tolerance for it, do I make myself clear?" I questioned. The boys face paled at the tone of my voice. He swallowed noticeably and nodded quickly.
"Yes, Miss." He agreed and kept his eyes down, trained on his desk.
"If I'm honest, I'm more than just disappointed in all of you." I told the class. "Now, if you have no idea what I'm even talking about, then this excludes you, but I think the majority of you do." I said and leaned back against the front of my desk with my arms crossed. "What was your end goal? A girl, a child, was sexually manipulated and taken advantage of and you're all ok with that? Your behavior toward her is disgusting and, and I'm talking to the boys, if I find out one of you in my class were the cause of all this, know that there won't just be actions taken by the school, but by the federal government, as well." And I fully meant it. I could see some of the boys eyes widen at what I said. "Taking and distributing child pornography is a serious crime. It's not taken lightly by anyone."
"M-miss?" Gabrielle, a shy girl with dark brown hair and glasses, said as she raised her hand.
"Yes, Gabrielle?" I asked and turned my attention to her.
"Angela ran into the bathroom after first period and didn't come out. I don't know if she's still there or not." She confessed. I stood up straight and uncrossed my arms.
"Which bathroom?" I asked.
In the next few minutes, I had asked Ms. Rose, the English teacher in the room next to mine, to watch my room while I went to find Angela. I ran into Loki on the way there and explained the situation to him. He finally understood why the students were so secretive and active today, and he was pissed. He understood that they were kids, but he also had no patience for predators.
"I just need you to walk her to and from her classes for a while. I don't want her feeling unsafe here." I told Loki.
"I can do that." Loki agreed and kissed my head when we stopped in front of the bathroom doors. "Go get your kid, Mama bear." He teased. I rolled my eyes before pushing through the door, into the girls bathroom. I immediately heard muffled sniffing from behind one of the stall doors.
I sighed heavily before locking the bathroom door behind me and walking up to the stall. I knocked softly on the door with my knuckles.
"Angela?" I asked. "It's Mrs. Smith."
"O-oh, uhm, I'll be out in a few minutes. I didn't mean to be late for class. My stomach was... hurting." She stumbled over her words. I took a deep breath and leaned across from the stall door, against the countertop of the sinks.
"Open the door, Angela." I told her softly. "It's ok, they won't bother you again."
"Y-you know?" She squeaked out in a devastated whisper. My heart broke for her. I didn't answer her question.
"Open the door." I said again.
I waited for a few more seconds before hearing her shuffle to the door and click open the lock. Her face was red from crying, her hair in flyaways. She looked exhausted. I immediately wrapped her in a hug. Her body stiffened before she relaxed and clung to me, sobbing her eyes out.
"It's ok, I got you." I told her as I ran my fingers through her hair, trying to do what my mom used to do to soothe me when I was upset. "You're going to be ok."
"H-how?" She hiccuped and pulled away slightly to look up at me. I tried to wipe away her tears. "The pictures are everywhere."
"There's a few things we're going to do. First, you're going to tell me who took those photos of you. Secondly, Mr. Smith is going to walk you to and from your classes. Thirdly, you're going to stop blaming yourself. The only thing you did wrong was trust someone you shouldn't have. Nothing passed that is your fault. This is happening to you, not because of you, understand?" I asked. She nodded and dried her face as best she could.
"What about the pictures... people are talking about me, I can hear it." Angela took in sharpe gasps of air.
"Let me worry about all of that. It's not something you need to be concerned about." I told her and rubbed her back. "I'll take care of it, I promise."
