《Law of God (Book 1)》Chapter Thirty-Nine

"Your Honor, I hope you understand that my client is aware of the circumstances of this matter as I specifically stated if they don't follow the guidelines of this very important arraignment, they will be held accountable for their conduct during this time," I said to Judge Judith, furiously.
One of the last steps a prosecutor takes before trial is to respond to or file motions.
A pre-trial motion is an application to the court made by the prosecutor or defense attorney, requesting that the court make a decision on a certain issue before the trial begins. The motion can affect the trial, courtroom, defendants, evidence, or testimony.
The judge hearing the case decides pretrial motions after both sides have an opportunity to argue the motion in court.
My client's name was Annabella Jordan, an eighteen year old woman who practically is afraid to speak the truth about her brother who murdered her son. Annabella is a teen mom.
How can some brother be so selfish? Annabella have to come to trial, but she wasn't showing up. Judge Judith sighed, and I was beginning to get frustrated and worried.
Judge Judith had enough of waiting, and told me if Annabella doesn't show up for the next pre trial, as scheduled two weeks from today's pre-trial, she would be held in jail.
I took a deep breath, and sighed, and I was pretty upset with Annabella. I understand she's scared of confessing why her brother Richard actually killed her son, and until Annabella showed up eventually a few minutes later, coming into the courtroom.
I asked Annabella where she was at, and Annabella apologized for being late, that she told me she had a very important "meeting," with her boss.
I didn't want to believe it. I told Annabella that her pretrial has been rescheduled. I wasn't happy with her, and I told her how Judge Judith can be so hard on people who don't attend a trial on time, over some lame excuses. Annabella felt bad, and she kept saying she was sorry.

Requests for continuance of a pretrial conference or trial must be requested by written motion filed no later than two business days before the pretrial conference, or as soon as a scheduling conflict is identified.
"Your lucky the judge is giving you a chance to make the right decision," I said to Annabella, sighing.
"What can I do to make it right?" Annabella asked.
"Well unfortunately you're going to have to wait for the next scheduled trial, and if you don't show up to this one, you will be held accountable for your actions," I said to Annabella, furiously.
Annabella nodded her head, understanding me, and I was so furious at her, that I asked Annabella if she even cared about her own son, and for what her brother did to him? Annabella sighed, and told me she does care about bringing justice for her son.
I scoffed, and chuckled at the same time, and I told Annabella that she needs to be aware of her own actions in this matter, especially if it's having to attend an important arraignment in the case of my client Richard who has been convicted of murder.
Annabella nodded her head once again, understanding me, and I nodded my head as well, hoping and praying Annabella would show up for the rescheduled trial.
Annabella did tell me she was really sorry for what she did. I nodded my head once again, grabbed my briefcase, and I left the courtroom feeling like a complete fool.
Annabella's mother and father were both very upset with her because of not showing up for the trial. They even asked the same questions like I asked.
I sighed.
I couldn't even imagine what it would be like to have to go through all that trouble if Annabella was held in jail for the fact that she had missed a trial. I would probably have myself almost fired. I wasn't kidding when I told Annabella that she has to show up for the trial.

I didn't think Annabella actually understood what I told her, she just looks at me like she knew what I said, and I trusted her to do what was right.
As soon as I got home after the longest day of my shift, Jacob decided to cook dinner for me this time.
Jacob saw me coming into the house, and asked me how work went, and I took a deep breath, letting out sigh before I told Jacob it's been a long day for me. Jacob understood, and I could smell pork chops from the kitchen.
I asked Jacob if he was actually cooking dinner, and Jacob nodded at me, and I was impress with Jacob's cooking. I never knew he could cook.
Jacob told me he and I are invited to a cookout at Marlo's house. Jacob asked me if we could go to it. I told him it was fine, and Jacob just really wanted to focus his last moment of freedom, without having to worry about the trial.
I took a deep breath, and slowly sighed, I asked Jacob why he's not afraid of losing his life anymore? Jacob shrugged, he was strong enough to tell me that even if Jacob does not win he still thinks he's going to win anyways.
I asked Jacob what makes him be so sure about him knowing he's not going to prison? Jacob told me he has faith and trusts me that I will win the case because I'm one of the best lawyers in the state of North Dakota.
I nodded my head, understanding Jacob, and I asked Jacob if he ever thought about praying for himself and to trust God in this situation. Jacob sighed, shrugging his shoulders, and nodded his head no.
I understood Jacob, and I told him if he could talk to God, it will help his faith be strengthened even more. Jacob sighed, and asked me if I been talking to God?
I didn't say anything, until eventually I told Jacob that God is the only way to help me win the case.
Jacob then told me he doesn't know if he has faith in God. Jacob was raised Catholic as well. But even if I do not win the case, Jacob told me that I tried my best, and how much he appreciated for me to never give up on him.

Destinatus
Volume 1: Follows the story of an amnesiac named Gratus whose narrative reflects the fragmentation in his mind. His journey to restore his memories pits him against monsters and questionable allies that seem to want him dead. Volume 2: Prequel to volume 1 that follows Cogito's narrative, a rising star that is tied to a family legacy he cannot escape. Connects the fragments in volume 1 and expands on the world of Dominia. **Author’s Note: Cover Art and Synopsis is subject to change. I just wanted to post my story here to get feedback and improve it, so it’s okay to be brutally honest! What I am posting is a rough draft so I don't mind rewritting whole chapters and segments of stories as long as it doesn't make the story worse haha. **Author’s Note: LitRPG elements begins in Volume 2, same with potentially traumatising content.
