as per custom my conscience wakes me

five times per midnight if lucky then mostly twice,

like an anaylist specialising on spotting a difference

having to examine the heavyweight blanket between i,

the duvet, my thighs, fingers changing sheets at times

my pyjamas blood-soaks itself everywhere

like a crime scene designed and left there

for everyone

to see.
