《The Devourer》Chapter 18:History of Ariwarsle and the Insane Hero (2)

After the war was over and peace was restored, the hero decided to continue his adventures and explore the vast and unknown world with his party.
He helped people, discovered new lands, killed legendary beasts, and saved different kingdoms from natural disasters.
When the hero became old, he decided to stop adventuring and settle down.
He married one of the Witch Queen’s daughters, who was also his party member and decided to live in a forest called Loswarier.
This forest was far away from all the kingdoms and was used as a testing ground for the new kinds of magic and rituals that the Witches discovered. They would test all kinds of crazy or weird things and because of that, Loswarier had become a very strange place filled with many plants and animals that were unique to it.
The witch Queen gave that forest to her daughter as a gift and she spent the rest of her life there with the hero peacefully.
Many years passed and when the hero died, the humans asked the goddess if they could summon another hero since the summoning ritual made it so that the hero could not pass his bloodline.
They wanted to be prepared so a disaster like the demon war could be avoided.
The goddess agreed and said that a single hero may be summoned at a time and only after his/her death a new one can be summoned.
Then the era of the heroes began
Many different kinds of heroes came to Ariwarsle.
Some were smart, some were battle junkies and some just wanted to spend their life peacefully and not adventure. There were also heroes that wanted to help the overall world by introducing things from their own world. And because of that, Ariwarsle grew and became very advanced with the help of science, technology, and magic.

500 years passed and a new hero was going to be summoned again as the previous one had died while exploring some new land he discovered.
Alnera’s Saintess performed the ritual like her predecessor had been doing for the past 500 years but something different happened this time.
In previous cases, whenever a hero was summoned, there would be a golden light that shines from the magic circle but this time a dark purple light shone, and then a naked girl appeared from it.
She was a skinny girl with long black hair that reached her hips. A normal face that was neither beautiful nor ugly and simply looked plain.
The most notable thing about her was the scars all around her body.
People were confused about this different color of light but ignored it since the hero was summoned successfully. After the ritual was done, they did what they had been doing whenever a new hero was summoned.
They explained what was happening, why was she summoned here, and what was common sense in this world.
She listened to everything and then just expressed her will to go on adventuring alone.
The human king wanted her to at least take companions but she refused and left the kingdom after a week with basic supplies.
The human king was used to this behavior, as many previous heroes also did this and had an early death. But the king did nothing to stop her and just assigned guards to watch her in secret.
After a few days, news about the hero came which shocked everyone.
She had burned down an elven forest, killing all the elves living in it.
The elves were outraged and demanded that the humans make the hero explain why she did such a thing. The human king sent his people to get the hero but even after many days, no news came back from those people.

News about the hero's atrocious behaviors kept on reaching the human kingdom and they were getting worried that this could make the other races declare war on them since the hero did nothing to the humans and only targeted the other races.
So they went to Alnear’s temple and asked the Saintess to explain why was the hero doing these things. Never had any of the previous heroes done anything that harmed the people.
She asked the goddess and Alnera told them that she could not feel her connection with the new hero.
She asked the humans to check if the ritual was performed correctly because if there was no connection between her and the hero, that meant the person summoned was not summoned through her ritual.
When the Saintess checked the ritual circle, she discovered that the symbols were different from what the goddess had told them to draw.
The Saintess then asked the goddess to explain what these new symbols meant.
After Alnera looked at the symbols, she told the Saintess in an urgent tone to capture that new hero as soon as possible or the whole of the world could be in danger. She then explained why was the new hero so dangerous and listening to her explanation, the Saintess fainted due to shock.
When the Saintess had regained consciousness, she explained what the goddess had told her.
Normally when a hero was summoned, the goddess had per-defined some qualities that must be present in that hero so as not to summon someone unworthy and dangerous for this world.
The qualities were that the hero must have a strong mind, a righteous personality, and a kind heart.
But the new symbols drawn on the circle were completely different this time.
They represented a broken mind, a wicked personality, and a twisted heart.
After listening to the Saintess, the humans panicked and sent a message to the other races to capture the new hero and explained why was she so dangerous.
Then every race began looking for this false hero before she could grow her strength.
But even after looking for her day and night in every possible place they could go to, no one found her because it was impossible to roam the whole world as most of it was still unknown to them.
As their last resort, people started asking the gods for help even when they knew that they would most probably ignore this request. And just as they expected no gods offered them their support.
Now that the people had no way to find her, they were scared and just started to reinforce their kingdoms and cities in wait for the disaster that would be coming their way.
Then after 10 years came the disaster they had been waiting for.

The Chronicles of Artharian Dagworth
Back in 2020 there were many theories on how the world would end. From the many religions apocalypses, nuclear wars that would leave the planet inhabitable, global warming doing the same, biological weapons getting out of control, viruses mutating into unstoppable diseases to the dead raising to prey on humanity, either due to a virus or just because hell filled up. Also, aliens, from the war mongering kind to the ones so advanced they didn’t see us as more than worms. And of course there was the fail proof theory that the world would end when the sun died. In a bunch of billion years give or take. Althougth some new scientist were discussing if the end would be on the take side, since when the sun started dying things would go haywire on the entire solar system and we would collide with mercury or maybe mars way before the expanding sun engulfed earth. But I digress… Now, those were the mainstream theories that the everyday Joe, who didn’t know the big secret, worried about. So, if you were to ask me which theory was correct I can tell you that I haven’t seen any little green man, at least not from another planet, and so far the sun is still shining, although it’s been only 9 years since everything went to hell, not the few billions (give or take) the scientist predicted, so that one isn’t ruled out yet. These two aside, I'd say all of them. Hey everyone, this is my first attempt at writing. I have been planning to do it for a really long time, and while this is not the one epic fantasy idea I ever wanted to write, I think it's a good one. The plan is to write an end of the world urban-fantasy series. Think a world like Dresden Files, Alex Verus, Iron druid, where magic is real but exist hidden from society meets the apocalypse. It will be written in first person in the Dresden Files style, no plans for other POV for now. As you probally alredy guessed from my style, english is not my first langague, so while google corrector helps, expect grammar errors, and I'd be gratefull for anyone to point them. I plan to write 2 to 3 chapters a week, 2000-4000 words each. Might change as I get more experience and depends on my free time. Cover image from the colections of getwallpapers.com
