《A Fungal Dream》Chapter 64. Family

Lightning flashed in the distance as the sound of crows could be heard in the distance.
In the pouring rain, several tombstones were visible in the space.
One of the crows lands on one of the tombstones and quickly flies away as a hand bursts out from the ground.
With a hissing noise, a man crawls out from the ground, covered in mud and dirt.
He wore black pants and a white shirt with a gas mask covering his face, from the visors a green light poured out from it. Tightly in his hands was a beaten-up laptop, with some cables hanging from it.
The man looked up to the sky and screamed.
“I AM ALIVE!”
The man shambles away into the distance, as another flash of lightning illuminates the environment, showing the writing on the tombstone.
HERE LIES BIOHAZZARD2021, MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
*****
“I am beat!”
I sat on the head of the monster, pulling the golden mask onto the top of my head so that I could put a cigarette into my mouth.
Using a small sample of blaze mold, I enlisted the thing and inhaled the smoke.
“Phew, finally some peace and quiet. Man, if only there were some alcohol around, this would be perfect.”
I slowly leaned back, looking up at the blue sky, enjoying the breeze.
“You shouldn’t smoke. It’s bad for your health.”
“JESUS!”
I jumped to my feet, hearing somebody speaking.
Before my eyes, the wind seemed to darken and condense, taking on the shape of a humanoid.
I kept my guard up, but when I noticed that the figure didn’t have any fighting intent, I breathed out a sigh of relief.
“My lungs are special. It does nothing to me. To be fair I only smoke because of a bad habit.”
I took the cigarette out of my mouth.
“Ya want it?”
The figures shook his head.
“It would be pointless. The wind does not breathe, it’s breath itself.”
“Man, you are no fun.”
I threw the still-lit cigarette away and stood up.
“Let me guess, you are here for Dark and War.”
“Correct, History believes that it would be the best action to take them to better locations. I do not understand it, but it doesn’t matter. The sooner we will get rid of the scourge of humanity the better.”
“…Hey, can I ask you a question?”
“Sure.”
“Why do you hate humans? What’s the point of fighting them?”
“…I don’t understand. We are created to destroy humanity and its pathetic civilization. This is our task, our purpose is to squash them into dust.”
“…Do you know what, forget it that I asked. The two of them are back there, follow me.”
I walked onto the back of the dragon, and with my power I made a small hole into its body, to enter its inside.
Truth to be told, this thing was entirely hollow on the inside.
No organs, and for energy, it was currently consuming its own body mass, soon becoming nothing if this continues for longer.
Inside of this massive body was divided into two chambers.
In the smallest ones were the items I gathered from the church. The others were in the other chambers, the women, sleeping in beds made from flowers while darkness was hung up upside down by my vines.

“Take them. And tell History that in the future I will be working alone.”
“…Alright.”
The wind creature lifted his hands up, surrounding the two-uncinus people in grayish winds which made their bodies disappear once they parted away.
“I will see you around.”
I turned to the wind thing, but it was already gone.
“What a warm fellow.”
I kneeled down to the still pregnant woman, putting my hands on her shoulder.
My action opened her eyes, her voice faintly ringing in my head.
‘Are we there yet.’
“Not yet, but soon. I promise you and the kids will love it. A lot of people like us, with lovely citizens.”
‘It sounds lovely. It’s a pity… that I won’t see it.’
“Don’t say that. I can give you some of my strengths, keeping you alive till-“
‘It wouldn’t work. Our children will be born soon, and They need all the strength they can get from you.’
As she spoke, her limbs slowly turned white and stiff.
“I can save you. I only need to-“
‘I …love… you.’
Before my eyes, her body turned entirely white like stone, before slowly falling apart, becoming nothing but a pile of pebbles.
“AAAAAAAA!”
“AAAAAAAA!”
From where her stomach was, two small beings were moving around and crying.
Gently, I reached and pushed the small rocks aside.
There were two babies.
They were small and tiny, their skin slightly green and their tears black like mine.
“My…My children.”
Not knowing what the feeling I was feeling, with the utmost care I lifted both of them in my arms, slowly rocking them.
As I was doing this, I felt tiny filaments grow from their naked body, connecting to me. Through them, I could tell that they started to absorb nutrients from me.
Quickly, the two of them stopped crying and fell asleep.
“…What am I going to do now?”
Answering my questions several notifications popped up before my eyes.
[A historical event has just occurred.]
[The first pure-blooded kayeri have been born]
[Several gods are horrified by this]
[Several gods are excited about this.]
[…Exclusive permission triggered]
[Commencing transportation]
Like, before the world around me got torn apart, showing me the vastness of space and stars.
With a rumbling noise, two golden thrones appeared before me.
On the left one sat a swarm of flies, taking on the shape of a human, with glowing green eyes. On the other seat, was a beautiful woman, wearing a green dress, with rainbow-colored flowers decorating her red hair.
“So, these are your children.”
The woman leaned forward, her green eyes shining in a bright light.
“These things are so… so… CUTE!”
“Ehhh?”
Before my eyes, the giant woman shrunk down to normal size, while she poked one of the kids with her finger.
“They are so cute! These puffy cheeks! I can’t get enough of these lovely cheeks! I could just gobble them up!”
“Compose yourselves, woman. We aren’t here to fool around.”
The swarm of flies also shrunk down to human levels looking over the shoulder of the woman.
“But we are here for the children.”
“Wait, what?”
I got on my feet and took a few steps away from them.

“Who are you people anyway?”
The woman slowly stood up, showing a radiant smile.
“Yes, we never actually met before. I am Airmed, one of the Tuatha Dé Danann, and a minor goddess of healing and herbs.”
“This isn’t time to be modest.”
The swarm of insects that made up the body of the other individual, started to rearrange itself while changing its texture and color.
Soon, instead of the cloud of bugs, a flesh and blood individual was standing before me.
He was definitely male, wearing only a pair of baggy brown pants and sandals, exposing his brown skin, and bulging muscles.
His head was hidden under a helmet, depicting the face of the monster with giant teeth, two pairs of horns, and a skin full of wrinkles that reminded me of a brain.
“This is how you do an introduction. Listen, mortal, I am the god of death, putrefaction. the harvest war and the underworld, the mighty Nergal! You should fall upon your knees and worship me!”
As he spoke, a pressure fell upon me, forcing me to fall to my knees.
The kids must have felt it, because they started to cry again, hitting my chest with their little arms and legs.
“Nergal! Stop it, you are hurting the kids!”
Hearing this, his presence quickly dissipated, leaving me to take deep breaths as I was trying to put the kids back to sleep.
“I am so sorry! He has an amazingly short fuse. Here allow me…”
From her hair, she took out a flower and blew on it.
The plant released a cloud of yellowish dust that gently floated on the kids, who slowly calmed down, before falling to sleep.
“Fairy Flower. Best plant for headaches and putting people to sleep. Or into a coma depending on how you use it, but I don’t think that I need to tell this to a fellow doctor.”
“…What do you two want?”
I was completely confused by the way the two of them acted and talked, the only thing that I understood was that they weren’t here to harm me.
“Right, the reason we came.”
The woman, Airmed, slightly bowed with her eyes closed.
“My friend and I request you to accept us as the godparents of these children.”
“…What?”
*****
??? POV:
“Kill them! Kill them all!”
A group of knights clad in armor that seemed to be made from polished stones with glowing purple patterns on them fought against a torrent of deformed monsters.
Boom!
Breaking through several buildings a green giant of many arms fell on the ground, several purple glowing arrows piercing its flesh.
In the night sky, several large creatures flew by, dropping boulders on the knights, squashing some of them.
At the crash site, there was no blood, or meat, only stones, showing that these soldiers weren’t actually alive.
Soon, the eldritch marks appeared on the boulders themselves, slowly forming into additional knights.
“Tanks push forward! Vierte, decimate these fools!”
Standing on top of a large building was the general of the mold army, shouting orders around.
At his command, the huge frame of Vierte appeared in the distance, rampaging through a horde of stone soldiers.
The general looked in the distance, his fist clenched so hard, that black blood started to drip amongst his fingers.
“That bitch why didn’t she do that day?”
As he was remembering that day when he needed to run away, he touched the scar that bisected his abdomen.
Even with all the healing properties of his race, the wound still left a mark and for some reason, it was faintly glowing purple.
“I will kill her. I will kill her and offer her fucking head to Father. ALL TROOPS ADVANCE! WE NEED TO BREAK THEIR LINES!”
In the distance, the meteorite that was once the castle was visible.
The building itself and its environment have changed dramatically.
The castle was now completely rock again and not that nightmare creature that it became.
To be exact, in a 10-meter radius around the building, there wasn’t a speck of mold.
There was only stone.
The buildings were turned into stones, and people made from stones walked around, acting like it would be any normal day.
In the throne room, the queen was sleeping peacefully on her stone throne, as if nothing were wrong, surrounded by stone puppets, who in her eyes looked like real people, her lost family.
As she slept a shadowy figure appeared next to her and caressed her head, its purple eyes glowing in a dangerous way.
“Soon, my champion. We all shall receive what we deserve.

The mythology of Tuatha Dé Danann:
Tuatha Dé Danann, (Gaelic: “People of the Goddess Danu”), in Celtic mythology, a race inhabiting Ireland before the arrival of the Milesians (the ancestors of the modern Irish). They were said to have been skilled in magic, and the earliest reference to them relates that, after they were banished from heaven because of their knowledge, they descended on Ireland in a cloud of mist.

He will journey through this new world and search for the "family" that betrayed him and figure out why they did it. There are some sections of action, drama and soon/eventually, mature related content (sexuality and gore). There are going to be sections with lots of text and little dialogue. There's going to be sections with lots of dialogue and little descriptive narration. ***Word of warning and advice. To save yourself the potential disappointment! The MC is mostly a pacifist! If you're looking for a super OP protagonist that uses his powers to get what he wants and to hell with the consequences, this story IS NOT for you. There are times when it should be obvious why, other's it's only implied. Either way, if you are expecting "shoot first ask questions later" mentality from the MC, regardless of how powerful he is, save yourself the disappointment and look elsewhere. I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to all the readers and commenters of my story. It's all the positive feedback and comments that really give me the motivation to keep going. Honestly. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. So, again. Thank you!
