Volume 1 Chapter 17 The Red Ghost Gang
Jack waited for another ten minutes, trap in hands, and patience as a weapon.
And the wait was worth it, a lost soul decided to look for his now missing friend and as he went through the door frame Jack pulled the lead rope.
The man fell and hit his head on the outer door’s doorknob.
The cranial trauma gave Jack enough time to slice the rogue’s throat. With another member of the Red Ghost Gang out of the game Lynch continued further in the house.
The kid soon arrived in a room with three men resting within, he knew he wouldn’t be able to sneak attack or trap them. While he was confident of his sneak attack’s skills he wasn’t as much for direct fights.
However one who doesn’t try cannot win anything, going by that logic Jack entered the room. His plan was simple, all he had to do was to act like he was a lost child and he would be able to approach close enough to one of the men to land a critical blow.
With that in mind Jack entered the room.
“Excuse me sirs, I kind of lost my way and ended up here. Do you know how to go back to the main street?” Jack said.
Two of the gang members took out their weapons while the other just looked at Jack in disbelief. Really the men didn’t know what to say.
One broke the ice and said: “Are you shitting us? You’re clothed like a noble and you expect us to believe you lost yourself?”
While the one without his knife was responding to Jack, his two colleagues in crime had blocked both of the room’s doors.
Jack’s plan did not go as expected so he rushed toward the only gang member without a weapon to try landing a blow before having to deal with three people at the same time.

Has he approached the man he was aiming for had started retreating; in different novels one could read, a lot of the Main Character’s enemies would be stupid and not careful when fighting someone they thought was weaker than them.
However reality was different, no one was so fearless that they wouldn’t take precautions, gambling with one’s life without preparation never ends well.
As the man was retreating he took out his own dagger while maintaining eye contact with Jack.
At that moment Jack understood that if he wanted to get out of this room alive he had to use his Chus.
While the most of the populace believed Chus users to be undefeatable foes, the truth was that Noga-level Pathseekers weren’t that far from the common folks.
At the Noga-level, one could only use one principle (the one they understood when they awakened themself), and if they wanted to reach the real line between Ashes and Pathseekers that was the Bala-level, one could only rely on luck, time and aptitude.
While Noga-level Pathseekers could fight multiple normal humans at the same time, if they weren’t able to take the high ground of the fight and weren’t able to end it quickly they would most likely lose as their Chus would run out and their enemies wouldn’t wait while the Chus user was recharging his spell(s).
As such someone like Jack who was in a three versus one situation had to end the fight quickly or he would lose.
Jack started gathering Chus in his palm and concentrated on both his understanding of his own spell and of his principle.
Soon enough, he had finished preparing his first and only spell, Lynch immediately used it.

Jack’s palm started glowing with a blinding flash.

This blinded the three men; the one in the far back was the least affected but still closed his eyes because of the pain caused by the glaring light.
Jack rushed toward the first man who was talking to him barely a second ago. His first rush wasn’t successful because the man was too cautious, however the three criminals didn’t expect a spell to be launched by a small kid who was not even in his teenage years.
As such Lynch’s second dash was a success, he arrived to the man he had tried to kill before and prepared to stab him in the stomach.
The Red Ghost Gang member heard Jack approaching and started to throw punches randomly in the hope of hitting the kid.
Unfortunately for him, he had started to attack when Jack had yet to reach his range of attack which gave Jack the time to prepare to dodge his next attack.
As he was going under the man’s punch, Jack launched his bronze dagger directly towards the man’s belly.
The man started screaming in pain, Jack went toward his second opponent who was starting to recover his vision.
The man didn’t know at which distance Jack was from him so he didn’t try to blindly punch the air.
Instead he started to focus on the sound Jack’s footsteps produced, but as he wasn’t a trained soldier or a veteran mercenary the blond mobster wasn’t able to predict when Jack would attack and received a decisive blade on the front of his neck.
The last gangster had recovered his vision just in time to see the blond evildoer getting killed by Jack.
He wasn’t stupid; if Jack was able to kill both of his friends he was able to kill him too.
As his last hope he fell on his knees and started begging for his life.
“Please, please I beg you, I have a family to feed. I have not committed anything deserving a death sentence, please. Young Lord, I beg you to let me go.” He said.
When Jack heard he had a family back home, he stopped for a moment.
But after quickly making up his mind, the early-bloomer that was Jack responded.
“I hope you don’t do evil things in hell. I also hope your family can reach the Glowing Kingdom when they die.”
With this last sentence, Jack who had since then reached the last man stabbed the man in the stomach before ending his suffering with a clean cut on the neck. He went toward the door while sheathing his blade.

Web of Isolation
Dane Kain: he was, on the whole, very uninvolved with life. He never had any particularly lingering attachments to life and tended to let himself be carried away by the flow of things, a fact that would become very important after his sudden death when he awoke as something completely alien. Using some half remembered fun facts from his passing obsessions in life as well as a penchant for making things work that simply shouldn't, hopefully Dane will stand a chance as the creation he has now become.
