《The Golden Girl》23. She belongs to herself (Part II)

You were talking about the night sky, the way the stars sparkled, the way they blinked at you. But somewhere, I found myself looking at you, the way your eyes sparkled when you talked, the way you laughed. Damn, your voice was music to my ears.
I knew deep down, loving you was going to be hard and trust me, I tried to hold myself. But the way you held my hand that day, the way that small gesture made me feel, hell, you broke all my walls that I had made between you and I.
And I started to fall for you, harder, faster.

"Are not they from Lakeview prep, oh my god, is not she Faye Lockwood?"
"Wait, that is River Blake behind her. Hell, he is hotter than I imagined him to be."
"Are they together?"
"My sister studies in there, she told me that Faye Lockwood is dating Justin Walter, a blonde jock. Rumors says that she's cheating on him with River."
"It is not a big deal for them. I mean, cheating and all."
Whispers started as soon as River and Faye reached the ticket counter.
They suddenly became the center of attention.
The whole atmosphere made her feel too revealed, exposed.
"Maybe they are dating? What do you think, who will look good with her? Personally, I think Justin is a keeper. But then once again, River Blake is the king, he's hot as hell."
"I feel like she's playing with them. I do not really think she gives a shit about both the guys. Maybe they are her tools? She maybe is using River for popularity and Justin as her fuck buddy?"
"I even heard that River and his brother Zachary once came into a fashion magazine. Maybe Lockwood industry is trying to you know, make a relationship with Blake enterprises. I guess, it is a family thing."
Misjudged.
Prejudiced.
Exposed.
Revealed.
Faye felt her throat becoming dry. Suddenly, her body became cold.
Her face didn't show a thing that she was feeling inside. Her physique was perfectly maintained and she was looking confident as ever.

But inside, she was dying. She just wanted to go and beat the hell out of those girls who were speaking nonsense about her and River.
"You know, the girl you all are talking about? She's one of the most amazing person of the whole world, someone who you all will never be. It's funny how people judge others just by hearing some shitty things about them. Hell, it is funny how they throw hate everywhere. To be honest, I find it pathetic." As soon as those words left River's mouth, he glared at the group of girls, making them winch and walk away from there.
He wanted to shout at them, he wanted to kill them. They had no right to speak about her like that. He was boiling, anger spilling through his veins.
"River..." He heard Faye calling for him and just in the span of time, his anger vanished.
"Are you alright?" He asked, looking at her, pure concern visible on his face.
She faintly nodded, her eyes not meeting his.
"Thanks, thanks for everything that you said to them." And a small smile made its way to her lips.
He simply shrugged, rolling his eyes to which she shook her head, chuckling.
"I got the tickets, let us go." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her to him. Suddenly, a shield was made around her, something that protected her from every judging eye.
River was protecting her and he had this look on his face that said, 'lay a finger on her and you will be dead.'
And she, she felt safe, safe in his arms, something that she never feels in other's embraces, something that is only possible with River.
He always gave her a homie feeling, something that made her feel like she is home. Sometimes, she finds it quite strange, the way she feels around him, the way she feels safe but no, she never makes a big deal out of it. She never let her thoughts speak of how she feels like he is home.

"What are you thinking?" He asked as they both walked up to the queue that lead them to be rollercoaster.
"Nothing that you have to worry about." She said, ruffling his hair, making it messy.
"Not my hair. It took me hours to set them." He whined, trying to get a hold on her hands, trying to prevent her from touching it.
"They look so cute together." And they both froze in their actions as soon as they heard the words.
Both of them looked at each other in horror before turning around, looking for the one who just had said those words.
And there stood an elderly couple, a really really old couple, smiling at them.
They awkwardly smiled back, a hesitant look on both of their faces.
"They really do look beautiful together my love." The old man nodded to what his wife had said and patted River's back, "You both remind us of our high school days."
At that, Faye smiled, "We are really sorry, but we are not a..." But before she could complete what she was saying, River cut her off, "Thank you sir." He said, smiling politely at them, pulling Faye closer to him, if it's even possible.
"Oh, I still remember those days, he used to play in the basketball team..." The old woman said, sighing dreamily.
"And she used to be the most beautiful girl of our school." The old man looked at his wife with admiration, his eyes filled with love.
"Honestly, I do not even know how I got her." The man laughed.
"Oh shut up Robert." The old woman looked at her husband with a playful glare which made Faye laugh.
"You both are so cute. I wish to have a family like you one day." She said, laughing, her eyes holding a kind of shine.
"Oh let me tell you, he used to be the known playboy, you know, the heartbreaker, even I do not know how I ended up with him, like I used to despite his presence, I used to hate him..." The women kept on talking and wrapping her arm around Faye, she took her away from River walking as the row proceeded, leaving both the males behind.
"I saw the way you look at her son, if you really love her, do not let go of her, do not give up." And patting him in the back, the old man smiled, giving River a knowing look.

"This is the lamest thing ever." River grumbled as the ferries wheel started to spin.
"I never understood why you do not like the ferris wheel." Faye shook her head with an eye roll.
"You know the cause. I love speed, I love being fast, I love being hit by the wind and this..." He pointed out, "is not fast."
"You took me to the rollercoaster with you, I did not object, now, it is my turn." She said, playfully glaring at him.
"The city looks so beautiful from here." Faye let out of shaky breath, her eyes fixed on the scenario that was in front of her eyes.
The whole city was sparkling with their lights, looking tiny as ever, and there was silence everywhere. Not only the city but even the sky was in their favor today. Millions of stars were shining in the night sky, making the whole scenario enchanting and mesmerizing.
"I love it in here." Faye breathed in, closing her eyes. Even the breeze that blew around them was different, it was fresh.
And River, he kept on looking at her, he kept on looking at her as a warm smile crossed her face, as her eyes ran over the whole city, a kind of brightness visible in those ocean blue orbs, he kept on looking as she breathed in, the smile never leaving her face.
And before he knew, he had a warm smile on his face, mirrored to her one.
