"So you aren't comin' to school tomorrow?" Santana asked with his arm over Sarai's shoulder as they walked down that hall to get to the car line.

"No. I told you this yesterday when you texted me." Sarai chuckled, glancing back to see if Maddison was still behind her. She was coming home with her today.

"Okay but I'on understand why now?" He dapped one of his friends when they walked past them. Sarai stayed quiet, she didn't know how to answer this question. She never knew why but every year the day after Halloween, she stayed home from school.

Her parents always made her and her brother stay home so she grew into it. She never goes to school the day after Halloween. Her parents used to make her stay home the day of Halloween until she got to the seventh grade. She never asked why, she just went with it.

"I'on kno. I just do I guess" She replied, walking out the door first after he held it open for her. "Thank you," She said.

"What you doin' tonight den?" He asked, leaning on the brick wall and she stood in front of him.

"Takin' my li' brother trick and treating then having a movie thing with my friends" She explained, looking around trying to see if she saw Carmen walk out of the school yet.

"Friends? Why wasn't I invited?" He raised his eyebrow making her look back at him. "Thought we were friends Ray?" He asked.

She laughed a little "We are friends Tana. But it's just a close friend thing" She spoke truthfully. She didn't feel like sugar-coating it. He was her friend but not close enough to come to her house. She knew the boys didn't know him well enough either to bring him into the group. Like she did with Maddison.

"I'm not a close friend?" He smirked.

She tilted her head with a smile on her face "No" She replied.

Santana sucked his teeth "You be playin' you kno' that?" He chuckled, she just shrugged, still smiling. "When are you gonna let me take you on a date tho?" He smirked, eyeing her down.

Her eyes slightly grew bigger. Before Sarai could even reply, she was being pulled away by her arms by Carmen and Maddison. "I-I'll text you. Byee" She said, looking back at him while he looked at her weirdly.

"Y'all are so rude. We were havin' a conversation" Sarai frowned, snatching away from both of their holds.

"Friend. You can't entertain someone else knowin' damn well your in love with another person." Maddison shook her head as they walked towards Sarai's car. Maddison found out about her secret because she hung out more around the group. It was very obvious, just the way Sarai looked at Semaj. Sarai also gave her the rundown of how she's been in love with Semaj for six years now.

"Exactly. Your goin' to hurt him and cause problems knowing damn well you don't want him." Carmen stated.

Sarai rolled her eyes "Me and Tana are jus' friends. And fuck Semaj." She scoffed, getting her keys out of her book bag.

"Oh, now it's fuck him when you were literally about to cry over him yesterday?" Carmen questioned, walking around to the passenger side of Sarai's car.

Sarai mugged her "I was high! I wasn't in the right state of mind foreal" She rolled her eyes, unlocking the doors and getting inside the car.

Against all of Semaj's no's, she did turn into a smoker. Not a heavy smoker but she did smoke a few times with her friends. She enjoyed it and the feeling it gave her.

"Excuses, excuses, excuses." Maddison clicked her tongue after they all got inside the car. Sarai flicked her off before putting her foot on the brakes and pressing the start button.

"We have to pick up Boogie first. Y'all comin' to take him to trick and treating tonight right?" She asked, turning the heat up and then looked at them.

"No. First of all, Boogie is mean as hell. You kno' he told me to fuck off the other day? He's only ten" Maddison chuckled, putting on her seatbelt.

Sarai laughed, she knew it was true. At ten years old, Ka'jai had a very bad potty mouth. He didn't get it from anybody but her dad. Her dad cussed worse than a sailor. Her mom always fussed at him to stop doing it so much around Ka'jai because he copies everything Justice does.

"Pleasee. I promised him I would take him and I told my mama I would since she's on the road with my dad" She looked down at her phone when she felt it vibrate. She chuckled at Ka'jai texting her to hurry up and come get him from school. Any other time he doesn't rush her to come to get him from campus kids.

She assumed he was really excited for later today.

"Not my wife being a trucker princess. I'm gonna be sick" Carmen fake pouted. Sarai and Maddison laughed at her. Camren wore Nicole was her wife, and her Justice was in the way of them being together.

Everyone always did it with her parents with them being 33 and 34 looking like teenagers. It was nothing new to Sarai, hearing people having 'crushes' on her parents. Rell and JB still swore Nicole was their wife since they were 10.

"Girl, she was so excited. She loves being on the road with him. She said forget me and Boogie for the next 4 days" Sarai shook her head, putting her phone in the cup holder.

"Wait, they aren't gonna be there with us tonight?" Maddison questioned.

"No. Y'all wanna spend a night?" Sarai looked back at Maddison.

She shrugged "I'll have to ask my parents first. But nah, call yo' mama 'cause she said she was gonna have candy baskets and stuff for us. I was excited" She frowned, folding her arms across her chest.

"Oh, she did. She made the candy baskets before she left." Sarai stated, taking her car out of park. Since they stopped trick and treating back in middle school, Nicole made candy baskets for everyone and allowed them to have a movie night at the house.

"So exciteddddd" Maddison started twerking in her seat.

"He is so weird," Sarai mumbled, watching Ka'jai closely as he walked up to the two-story home filled with Halloween decorations with Maddison to knock on the door.

"That's what I'm sayin'. Then he tried to say I'm only here because I wanna fuck wit' other niggas like he doesn't know my whole situation wit' my mama kicking me out" Carmen ranted while typing fastly on her phone, talking about her boyfriend from back at home.

"He must be messin' with other girls down there and that's why he is trying to accuse you of doing it" Sarai shook her head, watching the lady that opened the door smile at Ka'jai and put a handful of candy in his candy bag.

"That's what I said. Then he wanna say I'm bein' insecure when he the one that brought it up." Carmen scoffed, making Sarai shake her head. Sarai wanted Carmen to leave him alone so badly. He was annoying and she got off vibes from him when she was around Carmen and they were on the phone.

"Then yesterday he told me how he doesn't want me around JB and Rell nomo." She said, rolling her eyes and then putting her phone in the back pocket of her jeans.

Sarai scrunched up her face "Why not?" She questioned, confused as Ka'jai and Maddison walked down the stairs of the porch of the house.

"He said since we're in a relationship, I can't have male friends. Actin' like he doesn't have all those girls he claims are his 'sister'. Boy bye." She shook her head.

Sarai just rolled her eyes, choosing not to say anything. She wanted to tell her to leave him so badly but Carmen didn't ask for that. She was just venting so Sarai kept her side comments to herself until she asked.

"She actually had good candy, Angel. I got some snickers and Twix" Ka'jai said, opening his bag to show her. She smiled and fixed the spiderman mask he wore on his face. "Good, you kno' mama said you can't eat all this candy tonight right?" She stated, grabbing his hand so they could walk to another house.

Ka'jai sucked his teeth "My braces won't even let me. These hurt" He huffed.

Sarai chuckled. They both had braces but she was used to them. She has been on and off with braces for years now. But she was glad Ka'jai got to experience them so he couldn't call her train tracks anymore.

"You'll get used to them" She waved him off.

"It's a vibeee all time" Maddison randomly started singing as they walked down the sidewalk. Sarai looked up to see her with her phone in the air and recording them since she was walking ahead of everyone.

"Vibe" Sarai and Carmen sung making them busted out laughing and Maddison ended the video. The three of them have been singing Vibe by Chriseanrock all week. It was so catchy and at least a hit in Sarai's opinion.

"What house you wanna go to next?" Sarai asked, looking around. There were a lot of houses since they were in the neighborhood with the big houses. When she used to come trick or treating, these were the neighborhoods that gave all the good candy every time.

"There goes your boyfriend" Ka'jai ignored her question, pointing his finger at something.

Carmen and Maddison's eyes both widened when they saw where Ka'jai was pointing at. Semaj was walking with Kamiyah and two little girls while laughing.

"Let's go the other way. It might be less crowded" Carmen stepped in front of Sarai before she could look where Ka'jai was pointing. "Right. I think I heard someone say they got bigger candy bars down the other way" Maddison added, trying to help her not see.

They knew her feelings were going to be hurt. She's been smiling and laughing all day, they didn't want something even they didn't know about it, to ruin it.

Sarai frowned, confused about what Ka'jai was talking about. She was also confused about why they wanted to turn around when they just came from that direction. "Maj and them are comin' over here" Ka'jai pointed out again, getting a glare from Carmen.

Sarai looked past Maddison and Carmen. She saw Rell and JB fussing at each other as they walked towards their way. Her eyes didn't miss Semaj and Kamiyah talking, who were also walking their way with two little girls in Princess Tiana and Princess Jasmine costumes.

"Oh" Sarai mumbled, looking down at her feet.

"He probably didn't come here with her Ray ray. He probably saw her while lookin' for us'' Maddison tried to assure her. Sarai didn't say anything, she just kept looking at the ground. It was her own fault that's why she tried not to feel jealous when seeing him talking to another girl.

But Sarai being the overly sensitive person she is. She couldn't help it.

"Pick your head up, Angel," Ka'jai whispered, tugging on her hand. He could feel his sister was sad which he didn't like. Although they fuss and fight a lot, he didn't like it when his big sister was sad. It made him angry.

Sarai sighed, picking her head up because her crown was falling like her dad always told her.

"Yooo!" JB smiled, being loud as always. Carmen mugged him "Can you go somewhere and not be loud for once?" She asked while Maddison laughed at the mug he was returning at her and standing over Camren.

"Shut yo' funny lookin' ass up. Always talkin' shit. Lopsided ass ponytail" He slapped her puff.

Carmen punched him in the stomach, he clutched over holding his stomach. "You fuckin' abusive water bug. Ima beat yo' ass" JB frowned, rubbing his stomach where she punched him.

"That's why you need a retwist bitch" She bucked at him and he flinched making her smirk.

"Y'all both shut up" Rell spoke, shaking his head.

"Bitch you shut up" JB and Carmen both said to him and mugged him. Rell flicked both of them off with his middle finger after giving Maddison a side hug then side hugging Sarai.

"You straight?" Rell questioned with a frown when he saw the sad look Sarai tried to cover up. She gave a fake smile and nodded.

"Liar" Ka'jai mumbled. "Shut up" Sarai squeezed his hand making him snatch his hand away from her.

Rell looked over at Semaj and shook his head "She saw us when we were lookin' for yall. Don't worry, she ain' got shit on you" Rell nudged her with his elbow.

She chuckled softly "I doubt—"

"Nope. He said what he said. She doesn't have anything on you. Don't say anything negative" Maddison cut her off, knowing her friend was about to downplay herself like Sarai always did when it came to girls Semaj talked to.

Sarai lowly sighed and nodded.

"Okay, I'll see you later. Text me" Kamiyah smiled at Semaj and he nodded before she walked away with the two little girls.

"Yoo" He side-hugged Maddison then Carmen. He was about to hug Sarai but she stepped back and gave him a fist bump. He frowned at her while everyone tried to hold in their laughs.

"Fist bump?" He chuckled. She looked down at Ka'jai, ignoring his statement. Ka'jai was mugging the mess out of Maj which was new. Semaj was his favorite out of every one mainly because he let him play his games when they were at his house.

"You're not gonna say hey?" Semaj frowned, looking down at Sarai. Sarai looked at him and rolled her eyes, ignoring him like she's been doing for a month now.

It was easier that way for her.

"Let's go to another house Boogie before it gets too dark" Sarai walked past Semaj, still not saying anything to him.

"Dummy" Ka'jai mumbled, following behind his sister. And bumping Semaj as he did so.

"Y'all see what I've been sayin'? Am I trippin'?" Semaj questioned, looking at Rell and JB after Maddison and Carmen followed behind Sarai.

"Yeah, you um... definitely something bro" Rell patted his shoulder, giving a tight lip smile before following the girls.

"Yeah, you're a dummy like Boogie said" JB shook his head, following the rest of the group.

"Ahhh!" Carmen screamed, trying to hide behind JB's body. The group was currently in the game/chill-out room of Sarai's house watching Orphan. Sarai was supposed to cook for everyone but decided against it and just ordered pizza and wings.

"Girl getcha' scary ass on somewhea' " JB said, trying to push her off of him but she only held onto him tighter. "I should've gone home. Y'all kno' I don't like scary movies" She mumbled, pulling the blanket over her head.

JB sucked his teeth "It's not even that scary. Jus' a scary cat" He teased, trying to pull the blanket from over her face. "Stopppp" Carmen whined, slapping his hands away.

Sarai shook her head, knowing they were going to be going back and forth passing licks in a minute. Like they always do. They can never be civil when around each other.

"Are you still on the phone?" Sarai whispered to Maddison as she sat next to on the floor with her head on Maddison's shoulder.

Maddison chuckled "Yes. I was supposed to hang up a while ago because he was playing the game and won't let me" She playfully rolled her eyes, showing her the phone. Sarai chuckled seeing Maddison's boyfriend— Lorenzo sitting in his dorm and focusing on his game in the camera.

Sarai said hey since she always did when they were on the phone. Not knowing that across the room, Semaj was staring her down.

He was fuming but more so he was upset and sad. He didn't like it when she ignored him, he always felt like he did something wrong and it would make her leave. He's been picking at his brain for the past month trying to figure it out, even asking Rell and JB.

He thought maybe he said something that hurt her feelings and he's been trying to think about what he said. He knew he should've brought those flowers to apologize for whatever he did but his basketball practice ran late today. He almost didn't come tonight because of how tired he was but he wanted to see her.
