《Girls Talk [Girl x Girl]》Chapter Twenty Four- Sweater Weather

It was pretty late when Margo, Fox and I returned to the campus. Margo and Fox returned to their dorm while I used the limited light from my phone in order to find my way back to my dorm. Once I got there, Victoria was sound asleep, so I decided I would do the same. I moved across the room until I heard...crying?
I thought I was imagining it until a croaky voice spoke "Kate?"
"Uh...yes, Victoria?" I spoke softly.
"Hmm, don't worry, I had a bad dream again," she said sleepily. I felt a small smile appear on my face.
"You're dreaming, it can't hurt you,"
"Mmhm, thanks Kate," she didn't speak after that, so I figured she had fallen back to sleep. I walked to the bathroom and began to get myself ready for bed, I changed into my pyjama top with ducklings on it and some shorts. I checked the clock on my phone once I got back to my bed. 2am. Well, I had settled for less hours of sleep before, and class wasn't on the next day, so it would give me plenty of time to start brainstorming ideas for my next art project. The theme was people, so I was thinking of doing a portrait of someone I knew. Margo, Fox, maybe even Victoria. Swan would probably also be okay with it, drama queens like having art made for them. At least, that's what I think.
I wondered who Victoria would do a portrait of...it was probably weird that I wanted it to be me. I wasn't even going to continue to debate with myself over whether or not i liked her. I knew I did. It was probably unfortunate as we only had a week or so left of the whole dorm buddy situation. I wished we could stay where we were. Perhaps we could.

I must have dozed off after my mental debate because after that I awoke to a loud ringing coming from Victoria's phone. "Oh shit shit shit, sorry Kate," she whispered as she quickly fumbled to pick it up and answer.
"Hello...er...yes, mum? Yeah, I get it, thank you," she ended the call.
I didn't say anything for a moment, just gazed at her wonderingly.
"Well, he's finally done it," Victoria's voice took on a slightly bitter tone, so I was aware something was wrong. I waited for her to continue to speak rather than interrupt her.
"Oh my fuck- I'm just...sorry," Victoria looked thoughtful for a moment.
"No, go on. What happened?"
"My dad cheated on my mum...again, and now he's leaving, his own decision,"
"I'm sorry, Victoria," I said quietly. I couldn't imagine what would happen if my dad cheated on my mum. I didn't want to.
Her eyebrows furrowed together "Nothing either of us can do, I'm just upset that my mum chose to stay with him."
I nodded.
"I'm going for a smoke, you want to come with?" she said, as she picked up a shirt and jeans, then went to the bathroom to change.
"I guess so," I called back into the bathroom, and picked up a blue sweater and navy jeans for myself to change into. I quickly got ready and then waited for Victoria to do the same.
"Ugh, I look a right state," her eyes were red, she had been crying, but she looked more cute than a mess.
"Nah, that's my job,"
Victoria rubbed her eyes and then gave me a small smile "But you always look perfect, Kate,"

I shook my head slightly but smiled. It was nice for Victoria to be...genuine?
"Anyways, enough of the emotional act, let's go," Victoria walked over to me and grabbed my wrist before walking us out of the dorm. I could be cliche and say I felt electricity, but in a sense I did. I mean, Victoria's hand was very cold. Perhaps I should have offered her one of my extra warm and fuzzy jumpers. Then again, I wasn't ever too sure if she would accept.
"Hey, you're wearing your bracelet," Victoria noticed once she let go of my wrist, I had almost forgotten she was holding it. The corners of her lips turned up slightly. "It suits you,"
I turned my wrist so that I could take a moment to look at the bracelet. "Speaking of which, I have something to give you," Victoria rolled the sleeve of her sweater up and began to fiddle with her own charm bracelet to take off one of the charms, she then grabbed my wrist again to put that charm onto mine. "I guess, a symbol of our rel- friendship," Victoria smiled.
"Thanks Victoria,"
"It looks even better now,"
I admired the little diamante heart charm before turning my attention back to Victoria.
"Isn't it great when you go to smoke and your lighter isn't working?" Victoria sighed.
"I mean, you could always light it yourself," I spoke, instantaneous regret followed.
"Greene, are you implying I am satan or hot?"
"Guess we'll never know,"
"You know what? I'm going to take that as a compliment, because I like you, Kate," Victoria smirked, and continued to fiddle with her lighter until it finally worked. She turned so that she could smoke away from my face, so we stood in silence for a moment until Victoria stopped.
"I should really quit these things, but you know..." Victoria trailed off, as she put out her cigarette
"Maybe you should just take up something else," I smiled.
"Oh, we'll see," Victoria smirked.
Victoria leaned against the light post nearby and observed the campus momentarily. "It's weird,"
"What is?"
"Well, we started university together and at the time I disliked you but you've come to be the one person I can talk to about...well, anything,"
"It's what I'm here for Victoria,"
She nodded and smiled. We remained standing there for a moment in the autumn chill before Victoria sighed once again "We still have that project due, right?"
"Unfortunately," I stated.
"Not so much so, it's just the whole family drama is going to be a distraction,"
Victoria walked over to me and put her arm around my shoulders "Let's roll on out," the two of us began to head back to our dorm.
