You were staring out of the window; the little moonlight there was reflected through the window on your skin. It almost felt warm, but you knew better than that. This whole place couldn't feel warm to you. By now you had realized that you would never see daylight again unless you escaped from this mansion.
Which made you wonder? Where in the world are you? This mansion is full of killers, you knew that. But to be in a place which is constantly surrounded by darkness... It felt like the underworld. The only thing you were certain of was that this wasn't the 'real' world. The world you had lived in.
The only thing you knew was that you could walk back to 'your world'. That time when Masky and Hoodie had dragged you along with them to search for the box... It had been hours before you had reached the city, before you had reached your old house.
So there was one way to get out of this damned forest. However that was another problem itself. You didn't know what kind of creatures resided in this forest, what dark figures lived there waiting for fresh meat to enter and get lost.
You needed a well-formed and thought out plan in order to get out of here alive, but right now every single setback had caused your plan to cripple down little by little. For as far as you had one. The main thing to focus on right now is finding out where your friends are and if they are still alive...
IF they are still alive...
You shifted a little, the constant pressure on your hip and shoulder nearly gave you bruises. You couldn't really lie in another position though. You didn't want to face Jeff and you wanted to stay out of his aura as much as possible. Not that he cared about it though.
A loud sigh escaped your throat as you could only look at the light of the moon. You couldn't find any sleep. You were so pumped up about everything. Your body and mind screamed at you to let them rest, to let them refill their energy. But you had so much to think of.
If they are still alive...
Okay think of what you know. Lola is dead, Sandy is still alive and you are still alive. That makes two people out of the 6 who you are sure of they are still alive. Lola passed on... Making it three persons for you to worry about. God, whatever you wouldn't do just to know they were still alive.
"What the fuck are you doing? I'm trying to get some fucking sleep." Once you had heard the low voice grumbling you immediately tensed all of your muscles. He was awake. You were wondering what in the world you had done to irritate him this time, but it surely wouldn't be that bad.
He didn't say anything, probably waiting for you to reply. After a while of silence you knew you had to come up with some sort of answer.

"I can't sleep." You replied harshly. It was the truth, you couldn't sleep. Why would he even care? This wasn't the first time you lacked any form of rest, and he merely shook it off saying it was your own fault.
"No shit. Just try and do it without the constant sighing, it's annoying." He growled, turning his back on you as he pulled the blanket over his body more. He woke up because of your sighs? Or was he awake this entire time? You only stared at him angrily, before you again, and without any knowledge, let out a sigh.
"What the fuck did I just tell you?" This time Jeff nearly flew up, sitting on the bed and watching you with those angry lidless orbs you were so used to. You only stared back, matching his fire with yours before you replied:
"It's because I can't sleep." You nearly growled at him. For a mere second you saw something flashing in those cold eyes of his, and for a mere second you were afraid that he would raise his hand and make it collide with your cheek or something like that.
You were so used to his behavior. So used to the constant irritating and angry aura surrounding him that you didn't know anything else. At first you had been scared, but then you realized that you were still here. He hadn't killed you after all those pointless arguments, after all that time you had gone against him.
You think you knew why:
'I like it when you're angry; I like it when you think you are an equal match for me.' You knew that your own anger did something to him and even though he hated you for it, he also liked it in a way you'd rather not think about. But this may be the reason why you're still here.
"That's not my problem." He rolled with his eyes visibly, showing you that he cared little about your well-being. It didn't surprise you. Though, after what he had done today, you knew that he cared about something. He wants something from you other than what he already has.
"Do you know where my other friends are?" You decided to ask him. This was indeed the right moment. Of course you could've waited, but then you knew you could wait until you were dead. There was never a right moment with Jeff. You just realized it.
With a loud and annoyed sigh he let himself fall back onto the mattress. Mumbling something under his breath. He knew this was the reason and he was probably cursing himself for ever taking you to Sandy. So much for staying at Jeff's good side.
"They're in the mansion." He didn't even look at you while telling this. But this wasn't enough. Lola was also in the mansion but she wasn't alive.
"Are they still alive?" You were really pushing his buttons now, you knew that damn well. This question could turn out in your favour, or it would turn your already pathetic life into one big disaster. Silence sneered through the room once again.

You didn't know whether Jeff just ignored your question or whether he was contemplating to tell you or not.
"If I tell you, will you shut up, sleep and stop fucking harassing me?" Your eyes widened at this. He was willing to tell you if your friends would be still alive. You would be willing to do anything in order to get that information. Even if it meant listening to Jeff.
"Yes." You breathlessly replied, your system getting more nervous with each second. You only stared at the back of the smiley killer, awaiting his reply with anticipation. You couldn't be more nervous about something.
"Yes, they are still alive. Good enough for you, princess?" You only stared at the killer in disbelief. They are still alive. THEY are still alive! Your friends aren't dead yet! The joy you felt overwhelmed the tiring bugging you felt in your whole body.
You couldn't be happier. After you had seen Sandy you felt euphoric, but now you were ready to explode with happiness. Finally the odds were in your favour this time and it only started to look better for you and your friends.
They were all still alive.
You could scrap one thing off of your list. You now only had to find them and form a plan of escape. Your freedom started to get closer and closer and you could almost taste the air of your own hometown. Maybe your life would finally be the same again?
Oh who are you kidding? You knew that even if you had done the impossible and escape, that you would never ever be free. Jeff would come for you, but maybe at least your friends would be safe then. Even if Jeff wouldn't come after you, finding peace and go on with your old life seemed so impossible.
You would be scarred forever.
But that didn't matter right now. You couldn't let those dark thoughts cloud your judgement. Enjoy the moment for once and celebrate that your friends are still alive. You were smiling like a madman but no one could see that anyway. Maybe Jeff?
"Thank you." You softly said. It came out almost automatically. You didn't know why you thanked him again, but it was rare that he would give in so easily. Maybe he really was tired of your attitude and constant questioning? He didn't reply, not that it surprised you though.
However now you could finally find some well needed sleep. You pulled a little at the blankets to cover yourself from the cold. They moved surprisingly easy your way and you now knew for certain Jeff was already asleep. Guess he must've been really tired. Explains a lot.
You wanted to give a loud sigh, but decided against it. His annoyance would cause him to wake up and kick you out of the bed in the best case. You stared at a blank spot on the wall before your eyes closed almost automatically. Sometimes fluttering open before you descended into a deep slumber.
~~
The next morning you woke up to some rustling, opening your eyes almost immediately you noticed that there was no presence behind you. You heard feet stomping on the floor and decided to turn just a little, trying to look at Jeff without giving away that you were awake.
He only marched through the room, completely dressed and ready to go out. You knew he would be out doing his hobby, so you decided to stay still and wait for him to get out of the door. He didn't need to know that you were awake.
Once you heard the door slamming shut you sat up, staring at the now closed portal and waiting for the tingling sound of the key. However it never came. Instead there was complete silence. He didn't lock the door? Impossible, he wouldn't trust you enough... Or would he?
No, that cannot be.
But the door really wasn't locked. Maybe you hadn't heard it correctly? You slowly threw your legs over the edge of the bed, whilst you stared at the door intently. You stood up, taking very slow and tiny steps towards the still closed portal, afraid that with each step it would open.
Your hand reached out for the handle, shaking as if the imaginary vibrations coming from the handle had caused this tremor. Your fingertips had touched the cold material and you had to hold your breath in order for you not to have a panic attack.
You only heard your heart beating loudly. Slamming against your chest with such force that you were sure it would break all of your ribs and pop out. You swallowed the lump in your throat as your hand had clenched itself tightly around the handle.
It's now or never.
With your eyes closed you had put pressure on the handle, making it bend down slightly. It was open. Jeff indeed forgot to lock the door. You wanted to pull it further down, peek into the corridor to check if someone was there but when you heard footsteps you froze.
You recognized that walking pattern from everywhere.
You didn't know how quickly you had to let go of the handle as you backed down immediately. You turned, trying to get to the bed as soon as possible. When you were standing in the middle of the room, the door swung open, revealing the person you had expected.

Summoning America
Entirely cut off from Earth, the United States finds itself in a scientific impossibility: the entire country, including the continental landmass and separated states and territories, was transported to another world. Unlike Earth, this new planet boasts phenomena unknown to science. Magic reigns supreme in this new region of the universe, bolstered by the natives' own scientific progression. Monsters roam wastelands and dungeons, subsisting off unfortunate travelers, local fauna, and sometimes even entire towns! Ambassador Samuel Anders is tasked with contacting the various nations and entities of this new world. Despite his best attempts at diplomacy, the arrogance and hostility of the natives prove to be an unnavigable barrier. War is the only alternative. Eventually, fears surface regarding an ancient evil: the Ravernal Empire. How will the United States handle the threats of this new neighborhood? What magical wonders will its adventurous citizens find? This Summoning Japan inspired work will follow the United States as it is summoned to a New World. The story will begin with the United States’ initial encounter with the Rodenius continent. Although starting similarly to the original story, Summoning America will begin to diverge greatly as the war against the Lourian Kingdom comes to an end. For the context of this work, I expect that you have already familiarized yourself with the original piece, “Summoning Japan” also known as “Nihonkoku Shoukan”.
