"Have you seen... Any of the other girls?" You hoped she had seen more than only you, but you had a hunch not. You had no idea if she was aware of the fact that two for your close friends had died... If not you weren't planning on informing her.
You didn't want to cause more damage.
"No... You were the only one... I... I..." She was trying to say something yet it somehow couldn't get past her lips, as if it was difficult to speak. You tilted your head a little, glaring at her with anticipation of what she was about to say. What was so difficult it couldn't be said?
What was she trying to tell you? Something important?
"I...I..." She kept stuttering, averting her gaze to the side. She never stuttered before, yet now it seemed as if she was dealing with this her whole life. It still didn't come out. You began to notice that the grip on your hand tightened a little and Rayne had stopped fixing the small splint on your hand. Her eyes seemed to change too, as her expression became full of guilt and sadness.
"What's wrong?" You breathlessly asked the girl, eyes still fixed onto hers, which were now casted onto the ground. You felt a pang in your heart for not being able to help her, for being so extremely useless yet again. You couldn't do anything other than to wait.
"I... I helped you. I treated your wounds... You were in such a bad shape, I was almost certain I'd lost you. Sometimes you would stop breathing for a few seconds. I would wait, completely silent and praying to the lord above that you would come back to me. I was so scared, (Y/N). I didn't know what to do."
You were taken aback by the amount of information she gave you, by the amount of talking she did. It was as if she had regained her composure, as if her old self was constantly trying to crawl back up into her mind. With much difficulty that is.
It was as if she was taken over by something. Her real self was terribly suppressed and even though she had strength you would be jealous at... It wasn't enough to take total control. Why was saying such a simple sentence hard for her?
And then it had hit you, the things she had said. It wasn't the speaking which was difficult for her... It was what she had said. She treated you; she made sure you had stayed alive... She was the unknown voice you had heard while you were in limbo. Before you got attacked by the black smoke.
"Who brought me to you?" You knew it had to be Jeff, but you wanted to know for sure. You wanted to be certain he was the one, so that you could ask him about it. So that you could get answers from the guy with backup information.
"The same guy... Who attacked us in the beginning..." She whispered the last part, probably remembering everything that had happened that night. Everything that had happened after that night. Everything that had happened right now.
So it was Jeff...
He had brought you here... To be treated? He tortures, pains, abuses you and then, when you get attacked, saves you and even has someone treating to your wounds?

You were shaken from your thoughts when Rayne spoke again, this time little louder than before:
"The splint is done." Your eyes traveled towards your broken hand, examining the small, wooden splint only to see it being completely restored as it was. You had so many unanswered questions, so many things to ask her... But somehow you forgot. You didn't know where to start, you didn't know what had priority.
However when you heard a soft, desperate sigh you knew what was the priority. It wasn't a question, but it was something that kept you standing all along. Without it, asking questions would be pointless. Your eyes then shot back to Rayne's, immediately grabbing her hand with your good one before you spoke:
"I'll get us out of here Rayne, I promise." You saw her eyes lighten up before she gave you a weak, crooked smile. She then shook her head a little, grabbing your hand and placing it in between hers. She brought it to her lips, giving it a soft kiss before replying:
"I won't get my hopes up, (Y/N). We both know that we're already in too deep. We've seen too much, we know too much... We've been touched by the dark one too many times to return as if nothing happened. We've seen... loved ones dying, right?"
Your eyes widened as you gazed at Rayne in shock. Did she know? Did she have an idea about what had happened to Sandy and Lola? Or was she referring to something else... To someone else?! No... That couldn't be... You didn't want it to be!
"-But... I trust you (Y/N)... And I'll keep you to that promise." You were out of words. Rayne began to smile, an honest one this time. You didn't know how to reply to that, what to say to the girl. The only thing you knew was that you had made the promise again.
But this time you'll fulfill it.
Something told you that you were going to fulfill it.
"About those wounds I need to clean them and then wrap them with some new bandages." You were interrupted again as you saw Rayne walking away, searching in the same, bloody cabinet as before. You were wondering how she could still be alive.
How... She could look this good and at the same time... This bad. You opened your mouth but closed it again when you realized that it could only bring up more painful memories... Biting your lip you had to decide what was best to do...
"Rayne... Are you always here?" Uncertainty was clearly heard in your voice, but you asked anyway. You wanted to start with something more neutral before going in deep.
She didn't look at you, nor did she stop or gave you any recognition that she had heard you. Instead she kept searching. Her expression didn't change either and you wondered if she'd heard you. Clearing your throat you decided to take another approach.
"Are you here alone?" Yet again there was no response. She seemed to be staring intently at the cabinet, searching for bandages. You were almost sure she was pretending not to hear. You spoke loud and clear. Getting a little impatient you took one last shot.
"Do you know about these killers, what we are dealing with? Do you know why we are here?" She retreated her hands while holding some bandages. Still, she gave no response. She only stared at you, walking closer and closer until she was right next to you.

Those bandages didn't look clean either, but were better than the reddish/brown ones you had now. She placed them on the small table next to you before grabbing your arm. Still not giving anything of a response towards your questions.
You wondered what made her act this way. Did you hit a sensitive string? Is she unable to talk about it or doesn't she want to talk about it? Either way, you had a feeling that she would ignore every question fired at her... As if... Instructed.
Your eyes widened and you opened your mouth to say something, to break her wall and make her spill the information. However she then suddenly stopped, her mouth widened as she slowly sucked in portions of air.
You immediately looked at her with worry, wondering what was going on. Her eyes stood fearful before they moved around the room, as if searching for something... Or rather... Someone. Her eyes then rested onto your frame before she spoke with a hushed voice.
"I can't clean your wounds now... Soak the wounds in water to get them clean. Take a bath or something. Make sure to take the splint off." You tried to get in between her sentences, wanting to ask her what was wrong. But you had a feeling she would be explaining that soon.
"Here are the bandages." She told you again in a hushed voice. Her eyes darting from the left to the right. She then pushed the bandages into your arms a little too roughly.
"We have no time, (Y/N). You have to go, quickly." You began to get scared of her reaction. Her sudden change in composure confused you but you knew that there was something wrong. She was obviously warning and protecting you from something.
"Ray-"
"No time to explain. He's coming back. Hurry up!" She almost pushed you towards the door, still being extremely restless about everything around her. You began to run towards the door where Jeff would be waiting. You knew there was no time for questions; you had to trust her on this one.
Still you couldn't help but to feel scared. Not for yourself but for her.
You opened the door, staring straight into darkness. You turned around one more time facing your friend with weary eyes. You didn't want to leave her like that but you knew there was nothing you could do. Whatever she was talking about was way too out of your league to handle.
"Rayne, I'll come back for you, I-" You saw her grabbing her head while her expression turned to annoyed and angered. She looked as if she was in pain, as if she was torn between two powers.
"Argh... Just go!" Biting your lip you whispered a soft: 'I'm sorry'. Before slamming the door shut behind you. The tension of the room was immediately cut off, but it was still lingering nonetheless. A powerful, dangerous aura was felt near you and you didn't think twice before taking a few quick steps.
Where was Jeff? Did he expect you to walk all the way back on your own?
"Boo." You jumped up out of fright when you felt someone behind you, someone who stood very close. Turning around you came face to face with the smiley killer. Your heart was ramming against your ribcage but you managed to calm it down once you knew it was Jeff.
"I love it when you're scared, doll. It gives me... utter satisfaction." Swallowing the lump in your throat you stared at him, before giving a soft sigh. He snickered at your expression, before walking straight past you and through the corridor.
You followed him quickly, stumbling after him and not wanting to lose him. Not wanting to get lost. Ready for other killers to rip you wide open and feast on your organs.
"Why did you bring me to her?" You asked, more out of boldness than actual thinking. He kept on walking, not giving you a single glance before he grunted:
"Because you asked me to, princess. Now shut up before I dig my knife in your back." That wasn't what you had meant. You wanted to know why he had gone through so much trouble to bring you to her the first time. But you decided to indeed shut up about it.
You had a hunch Jeff wasn't in the mood now for talking and another tumble down the stairs would break every single and already weakened bone in your body. Stumbling behind the mass-murderer you managed to get out of the corridor with him.
Even though you were extremely happy you had seen Rayne you were also sad. She was the only one you had seen who was still alive and yet she wasn't herself. Was she right? Did she know the truth by saying:
"We've been touched by the dark one too many times to return as if nothing happened."
She surely was touched by the darkness; she wasn't who she used to be at all. She seemed so distant, even if she was standing right next to you. If all this madness is the thing which had caused it then... How come you weren't touched by it?
You felt like yourself.
Sure your soul had some major damages but you could make your own decision. Your mind was in your own control. Was this all... Jeff's doing? Did the way he treated you have something to do with this all?
Could you really consider yourself lucky?
"Hurry up, limpy. As much as I love to see you in pain and struggle, I have some families to rip apart." Shaking your head in order to get out of your dark thoughts you looked at Jeff. Thanks to all the thinking you hadn't even noticed that you came to the famous stairs leading out of the underground cellars.
Biting your lip you grabbed the wall for support, lifting one leg with much trouble. However, leaning onto the other leg caused far worse pain than before. Giving a soft grunt you decided to continue on. You didn't want to anger Jeff, not yet.
Just... Hang on.
