《postponing forever》chapter 8

Finn woke to the sound of someone vomiting the next morning and instantly realised that it was Rachel. Without thinking he quickly jumped out of bed and raced into the bathroom to check on her.
The sight that greeted him was anything but pretty. Rachel was kneeling over the toilet her hair falling all over her face. He immediately kneeled down behind her and pulled her hair out of her face.
‘Oh El sweetie, are you ok?’ he asked her concerned.
When Rachel finally had nothing left to vomit she allowed her self to fall back into Finn's arm. Finn sat her between his legs as he leaned against the wall. Reaching up he pulled a washcloth from the bathtub and wet it, bringing it back to wipe her forehead.
‘Oh God I feel like Crap’ she moaned.
‘I know baby, you’ll feel better later’ he told her. Rachel closed her eyes and enjoyed the feel of being in his arms, she knew it wouldn’t last very long once he realised that Kyle was in her bedroom and she couldn’t really blame him either. Everything she had done the night before had been intended to hurt him, she had been calculative and used what she knew about him against him.
‘You okay Rachel?’ Finn and Rachel looked up to find Kyle standing in the doorway of the bathroom in only his boxers rubbing sleep out of his eyes.
Rachel felt Finn's hand tighten around her waist and his body tensed and she waited for him to push her away, it never came though.
‘She’s fine Kyle, I’ve got her’ He told him.
‘Um ok’ Kyle replied, a frown forming on his face ‘well I might head off then’ he said looking at Rachel appearing to be waiting for her to say something.
‘Yeah sounds like a good idea’ Finn told him.
A few minutes later Finn and Rachel heard the front door open and close and Finn sighed in relief that Kyle was gone.
‘You feel a bit better now?’ he asked her quietly.
Rachel nodded. ‘I-I didn’t sleep with him’ she whispered so quietly that Finn barely caught what she said. She didn’t know why but she felt compelled to tell him.
‘What?’ he asked.
‘I said I didn’t sleep with him’ she repeated.
Finn was quiet for a while not sure how to respond, ‘it certainly sounded like it’ he told her.

Rachel felt the bile rose in her stomach all over again after his words, she had never meant for him to be in the apartment when what had happened, actually happened.
Finn was right behind her all over again, holding her hair back and when she was finished he turned on the shower for her so she could clean up. ‘Have a shower it’ll make you feel better and I’ll go make you some toast’ he told her.
Twenty minutes later Rachel emerged from the bathroom freshly showered and wearing a pair of Finn's boxers and his shirt, common lounge clothes for her. Finn couldn’t help but smile when he saw her.
‘Feel better?’ he asked quietly.
‘Yeah’ she nodded ‘Thanks’ she said when he placed two pieces of toast in front of her with strawberry jam on them. Her favorite and it served as a reminder that no one on earth knew her as well as Finn.
They sat in silence for what felt like forever. Rachel eating her toast and Finn watching her, sipping quietly on the glass of juice in front of him.
‘I know I have no right to ask but why did you invite him in El?’ Finn's question broke the silence.
Rachel looked at him. There was so much to talk about and she knew that it needed to be done sooner rather than later.
‘You know why’ was her whispered reply.
‘Michael said that I deserved it you know. He said I should thank Kyle if fucking him made you feel better, was he right?’ he asked then.
‘I didn’t sleep with him’ she told him again growing a little annoyed that he didn’t seem to believe her the first time.
‘I-I was going to but I couldn’t go through with it. I didn’t want to sleep with him just because I was hurt with you and drunk. I would have regretted it for the rest of my life’ she whispered.
Finn's head fell into his hands. He should be ashamed of himself that he was happy that she was still untouched by another man, it was selfish of him and he knew that if she ever knew what he was thinking that she would hate him for it.
‘Why?’ she asked him then, her words coming out and pained and teary.

Finn lifted his head.
‘I didn’t mean to’ he told her.
‘Then why did you, and especially with her?’ she cried.
‘I-I didn’t realise it was her at first’ he explained. ‘I met her at a party and I was pretty drunk. The details are pretty hazy but we must have kissed before I stumbled home’
‘So why did you see her again if you knew who she was and how much I despised her?’
‘It wasn’t until a month later that she mentioned that she was majoring in biology and that’s when I put it together’ he explained.
‘You dated her a month before you asked her anything about herself?’ Rachel asked horrified. That wasn’t the Finn she knew who shared everything with her.
Finn seeming to know what she was thinking said ‘I’m not looking for a relationship with anyone other that you, Rachel so those sort of things are pointless. Besides it was only a couple of dates’ he shrugged.
Rachel felt a little happy at his words. He was right, she never tried to get to know any of the people she dated either because what was the point?
‘I didn’t call her back after I realised who she was but she wouldn’t give up’ he explained.
‘What do you mean?’
‘She chased me. She kept showing up at the bar every night, at parties I was at, hanging off me and stuff’
‘Why didn’t you tell her that you weren’t interested that you were with someone else?’ Rachel reasoned.
Finn's head dropped again ‘that’s what I should have done, your right. The truth is El I was attracted to her and I’ve never seen the side of her that you and Maria talk about’
‘A-Are you saying you don’t believe me?’ she asked hurt.
‘Oh course I believe you El’ he told her sincerely ‘I’ve never believed in or trusted someone more than I trust you’ he whispered.
‘So did you sleep with her?’ she asked then. Maria had already told her that he had but she needed to hear it herself. She still wasn’t sure what she was going to do but she needed some closure on this entire situation if she was going to be able to sit the rest of her exams without failing.
‘Y-Yes’ he replied.
Rachel let the sobs overtake her then.
‘I’m so sorry baby’ Rachel had known all along that their was the potential for Finn to fuck someone else, but deep down she had always hoped that he would never want to be with anyone else the way he was with her.
‘Michael asked me tonight if I was blind and he pointed something out to me. I’d never noticed it before until then but it made some of the things I was feeling for Serena a lot clearer’ he told her then.
‘What’s that?’ Rachel asked him bitterly.
‘I don’t love Serena, El. I only love you and that’s never changed or faltered, ever. You have to know that. What I felt for Serena is attraction and now that I know why I was attracted to her I feel a lot better about it’ he told her.
‘Well I’m glad one of us do’ she snapped.
‘Haven’t you ever noticed how much Serena looks like you?’ he asked her then.
Rachel's head snapped towards him then. ‘What do you mean?’ she asked.
Finn allowed a ghost of a smile to emerge then ‘Baby, she could be your twin’ he told her.
‘Oh now your just delusional’ she barked.
‘No I’m not’ he told her ‘she has the same colour and length hair as you, her eyes are similar, the skin color, her height and frame are all like you. The only difference is her clothes and makeup’ he argued
Rachel thought about what he was saying, hadn’t Maria said something similar the first day of class when she had seen Serena?
‘So you’re saying you liked her because she looked like me?’ she asked.
‘Well I have to be honest and tell you I didn’t see it myself but the things that attracted me to her are essentially the things I love and adore about you’ he told her.
Rachel nodded the things he had said had given her a lot to think about she stood up and put her plate on the sink and began walking back towards her bedroom. Her plan was to change the sheets before sinking back into her bed.
‘I’m going to tell her I can’t see her anymore’ Finn's words stopped her in her tracks.
‘Y-You are?’ she asked without turning around to face him.
‘I just want to be with you, El’ he whispered.
Rachel turned around quickly then fire in her eyes and anger blaring unlike Finn had ever seen. But what she said next was the last thing Finn Hudson ever expected.
