《Picture Day (Inanimate Insanity AU)》Missing

Fan's POV:
"She's missing."
"She's missing?! What do you mean she's missing?!" I exclaim concerned. "She was here this morning but then her name was called to get her picture taken and after that i havent seen her at all. I waited by the gym for her to come out but she never did and she wouldnt answer her phone when i texted her! She always answers her phone Fan, ALWAYS!" Paintbrush grabs my shoulders and shakes me.
"Paintbrush calm down," Test Tube says, "Fan already convinced me that there is probably a more reasonable explanation, she probably just went out of a back door."
Paintbrush shakes their head, "She would've came out of the same door she went in from."
We all sit there silently for a while not really knowing what else to say and still trying to gey Paintbrush to calm down. Eventually the bell rings.
Test Tube waves and walks off. I start to walk off as well, but Paintbrush grabs my shoulder.
"I'm not going to class until I find Lightbulb... but... I cant do it alone... will you help me find her?" They say to me with a stressed look on their face
I stare at Paintbrush for a bit trying to find the right words to say. I didnt want to get any bad grades or anything, but Lightbulb is my friend, I cant just let her go missing and do nothing about it.
"Sure, I'll help," I smile at Paintbrush. They smile back. "Thank you."
And so our journey to find Lightbulb began. We first looked in the gym, the place Lightbulb went missing to begin with. We looked in the closets and around the running track, but there was no sign of Lightbulb.
Paintbrush frowned and was very clearly worried that we would never find Lightbulb. I put my hand on their back to comfort them.
"What now?" I ask. "Theres no sign of her in here, lets look somewhere else." Paintbrush responds looking at the floor before beginning to make their way out of the gym.

I then remember what test tube said about the other missing people, about how they dissapeared after they had gotten their pictures taken.
"Paintbrush wait," I grab Paintbrush's arm and they turn to look at me, "Test Tube told me that the other missing people dissapeared after they were called up to get their pictures taken, and I think maybe we should check out the cameras while the teachers are gone."
Paintbrush stares at me blankly. "Thats... kind of stupid honestly." They state still staring at me.
"But its worth a shot!" I exclaim before rushing over to the cameras that were set up in the center of the gym.
"Fan! You cant just mess with the schools equipment!" Paintbrush snaps. I just ignore them and begin to examine the cameras.
I notice there are two buttons each of a different color, one being red, and the other being blue.
"Paintbrush, grab me a chair or something, I want to take a picture of it to see what happens." I say now becoming more curious
Paintbrush groans and grabs a chair then sets it in place. "I still think this is a stupid idea." Paintbrush mumbles with an annoyed look on their face.
I then click the blue button. We both look at the chair to see if anything suspicious happened, but it seemed fine. Next I pressed the red button.
A blinding flash then caused us both to cover our eyes. "What the-" Paintbrush blinks repeatedly to adjust their vision after the flash. "No picture flash should be that bright!"
I nod in agreement and peek around to see if anything happened to the chair. To my surprise the chair was completely gone.
We both just stared, speechless. "Fan, take a picture of me with the red button! It might take me to Lightbulb!" Paintbrush exclaims.
"WHAT?! ARE YOU CRAZY?! THATS TOO DANGEROUS!" I yell "You dont even know where it leads!"
Paintbrush walks over to the red button. "Fine! I'll do it myself!"
They then reach for the red button before I push them away. "Paintbrush if Lightbulb hasnt come back by now after being teleported by- whatever this thing is, I doubt you'll be able to come back either!" I snap

Paintbrush shoves me out of the way and I grab their arm to pull them back. We fight eachother for a bit before we suddenly hear the gym doors open and two teachers walk in. We both scramble to our feet and dart to the nearest closet before the teachers notice and shut the door.
"This isn't right!" I hear one teacher exclaim, "we cant just do this to these kids!"
I recognize the one talking as MePhone4, the History teacher. The other teacher begins to speak. "We can and we will MePhone4." I hear the other person say.
I recognize that voice too. I turn to look at Paintbrush, who is barely visible in the dark closet. They are covering their mouth to keep quiet, but they also look angry. By the look on their face, I can tell they knew who the other voice belonged too as well.
It was none other than the principal himself, Principal Cobs.
I can hear MePhone4 and Cobs arguing, MePhone4 very clearly doesnt agree with what he is doing.
"If you continue to stand up to me MePhone4, I will have no choice but to shut you down." Cobs snaps.
"I will report you to the police, this is kidnapping!" MePhone retaliates.
"You leave me no choice then." I hear Cobs say. Suddenly, Paintbrush and I hear something begin to power up behind us and a red light fills the closet.
We stand there motionless for a bit before turning around and seeing another MePhone with a large X on its screen. We both duck down to avoid being seen and the MePhone opens the door, then slams it shut.
I cant describe what happened after that, but once everything was quiet, we both exited the small cramped area.
"WHAT ON EARTH WAS THAT?!?" Paintbrush exclaimed with a shocked and terrified look on their face
"I- dont know!" I say, just as shocked, "Did we just witness a murder?!" Paintbrush takes a deep breath. "Lets just get out of here before they come back." I nod in agreement and we both rush out of the room.
We must have missed class because people were already wandering around and heading to their next classes. I look to the side and spot Balloon.
"We need to warn everyone." I say still shaken by what just happened. I then rush over to Balloon.
"Oh hey Fan! Hey Paintbrush!" Balloon smiles as I approach him. "Woah, are you two ok? You look like you've seen a ghost!"
Paintbrush gives a nervous glance and i begin to speak.
"Ok, this might sound crazy, but, I think the principal is kidnapping people. Me and paintbrush went into the gym to check out the equipment and there were two buttons, one of them just took a normal picture, but the other one... made a chair that we had taken a picture of just... dissapeared into thin air!"
Balloon just stares blankly and looks at Paintbrush, who nods to reassure Balloon that I was telling the truth. Balloon's blank look turns to shock.
Test Tube then walks up and we end up telling her the same things we told Balloon.
"I TOLD YOU!" Test Tube exclaims. "Well what are we gonna do about this?!" I ask panicked. "I dont know..." Test Tube responds, "but we have to find something!"
"For now we just need to go to class so we dont get discovered, we can work this out later." Paintbrush interrupts trying to stay calm.
"Maybe that is a good idea." I respond
We suddenly hear the speakers come on, another person being called to get their picture taken.
We all anxiously wait to hear the next persons name and our hearts all drop when we hear who was called next.
Fan, please come to the gym to get your picture taken.

Homeland
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER -- In Cory Doctorow’s wildly successful Little Brother, young Marcus Yallow was arbitrarily detained and brutalized by the government in the wake of a terrorist attack on San Francisco—an experience that led him to become a leader of the whole movement of technologically clued-in teenagers, fighting back against the tyrannical security state.A few years later, California's economy collapses, but Marcus’s hacktivist past lands him a job as webmaster for a crusading politician who promises reform. Soon his former nemesis Masha emerges from the political underground to gift him with a thumbdrive containing a Wikileaks-style cable-dump of hard evidence of corporate and governmental perfidy. It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier.Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do.Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.
