(From here on out I think I will be changing POV's throughout the chapters
But uh,
Yeah, heres another chapter)
Paintbrush's POV:
Fan, Lightbulb, and Balloon have been missing since yesterday. Balloon said he was gonna watch to figure out what happened but I haven't seen him since. Its no surprise that I haven't seen the principal around either.
If I could talk to him face to face right now I wouldnt even hesitate to-
"Paintbrush!"
Test Tube yelled waving her hand in front of my face.
"This is the third time I've called your name!" "Oh, sorry. Was I spacing off again?" I ask slightly embarrassed. Test Tube nods.
"Ever since those three went missing you've been staring off into space all the time!" She says with a concerned look on her face.
"How can you blame me?" I respond, "I cant stop feeling anxious about who might get taken next. We have no idea who the next target is and we arent even CLOSE to finding out where they were taken!"
Test Tube stares at me, clearly thinking the same thing I am. "Well then what's the plan?" She asks. I tried saying something, but didnt know exactly how to respond and only ended up stuttering over my words.
There isnt anything we can do
The thought kept lingering inside my mind.
We cant get them back. Its too late for them
I shook away the thought. I couldnt give up just yet, they only went missing yesterday so they must still be ok.
But it was just so hard with Lightbulb gone to keep trying. Lightbulb always motivated me to keep going, and even when I didnt want to, it was hard not to with her cheerful attitude.
But without her its just so quiet. Too quiet.
Im doing this for her. She would want that. If it means getting her and everyone else back, then its worth it.
I didnt realize it at first but I was spacing off again and only snapped back into reality once Test Tube started waving her hand in front of my face.
"Sorry." I mumble. The intercom then beeps startling us both and making me cringe.
I hated the sound of the intercom turning on. It reminded me of Lightbulb. But nows not the time to be thinking of her, I dont want to start spacing off again. I want to hear this.
Test Tube and I listen anxiously waiting to hear who will be called up next.
Soap, please come to the gym to get your picture taken.
"Oh no you dont." I say standing up out of my seat. Test Tube looks at me. "Where are you going???" She asks confused.
"Im going to do something about this. Im not letting someone else get taken." With that I rush to the gym and hide before anyone gets in there.
After a bit, Soap and one of the MePhones walk in. I watch as Soap takes her place in front of the cameras then the MePhone reaches for one of the buttons. I notice it was the red one.
I spring into action and run straight into the MePhone tackling him to the ground. Both Soap and the MePhone look surprised.
I then hold down the MePhone's power button, causing him to shut down.
"WHAT THE HECK?!?!" I hear Soap yell shocked. I glance over at her.
I really didnt think this through, she thinks im crazy, I already know it.
"It's not what it looks like ok, I have a perfectly reasonable explanation-" Soap glares at me skeptically. "Listen. The principal is kidnapping people and somehow using this thing to do it." I say.

Shes not going to believe that. I sound like a crazy person!
"That's ridiculous." She says looking me in the eyes with a confused look. "Im serious, and he was going to kidnap you." I say pointing to the MePhone who is lying on the floor, "need proof?"
"Well i'd have to see it to believe it." Soap says crossing her arms. I look around and pick up a basketball that was lying against a wall in the gym and set it in front of the camera.
I then walk around to the buttons and show her that the blue one just takes a normal picture, and then prepare to click the red one.
"Might wanna shield your eyes." I suggest and she stares at me confused for a moment before doing as I told.
I click the button and that same bright flash happens, Soap realizing why I told her to cover her eyes. After the flash was finished I walked over to where the ball was placed and reveal to her that the ball is now gone.
Soap stares and then covers her mouth, clearly not expecting anything to happen.
"See what I mean?" I say. "Y-yeah I guess I do" Soap mumbles.
"Please just dont tell anyone about... " I mumble pointing to the MePhone. She hesitates but nods. I struggle to pick up the MePhone, but I eventually manage to get him up off the ground and move him to an empty closet that nobody uses anymore.
"Lets go." I say, and we both exit the gym. I notice Test Tube waiting for us a ways away from the gym doors and she breathes a heavy sigh of relief once she sees Soap is ok.
"How did you save her?" Test Tube asks. "Ummm..." I hesitate. "How about we talk about that later." I say with an awkward grin on my face.
I glance at Soap who looks a bit nervous. "You ok Soap?" I ask a bit worried. "Yeah im ok, this is just a lot to process." She responds.
Test Tube then tugs my arm and points to the entrance doors. I look over to where she pointed.
The principal just walked into the doors...

[A bit earlier]
Lightbulbs POV:
"She's dead."
My heart sank when I heard those two words. The sentence seemed to ring in my ears.
Dead...? No... she cant be dead... He's just trying to intimidate us right???
I kept trying to convince myself that what Cobs had said wasnt true. I knew that if she was dead, it was likely that more of us would die too. I couldnt let that happen.
I looked at Fan and Balloon who had looks of absolute shock on their faces. I wondered if they were thinking the same thing I was.
"Your lying." I yell out, I didnt mean to say that out loud and I wasnt thinking about the consequences that could possibly happen. Cobs turned to look at me and stared me striaght in the eyes, casuing me to shiver a little.
Oh crud I didnt mean to say that, he's gonna kill me.
Instead of coming over and opening my box to take me away, he just glared at me and continued explaning. I was relieved but also a bit nervous, I mean, a coldblooded murderer just stared into my soul.
"Now, That stupid one may have died, but let me introduce you to one of my newest inventions. Its called a recovery system, and it is able to bring deceased objects back to life."

Bring people back to life? But thats not possible! Once someone dies, they die for good. Thats how it's always been.
I looked around the room and noticed everyone else looked just as confused as I was.
We watch as cobs brings in a MePhone and clicks a button on the screen opening up an app. The app had buttons with everyones faces on them, which made me a bit uncomfortable for some reason.
Cobs then clicks the button with Apple's face on it and suddenly, Apple was standing there. She looked confused and frightened. Cobs grabbed her arm and tossed her into her box. She yelped when she hit the ground not expecting the sudden impact.
Everyone was just watching in shock not knowing wether to be surprised or scared.
Not even death can get us out of this...
Cobs then turns to look at me, making me flinch. "Now because that was taken care of, lets move on to the next subject." Cobs says as he walks up to my box. I knew I was next, so now was my chance to spring into action.
Be ready... Be ready...
Cobs then opens the door to my box and as soon as he does, I light myself up as bright as I possibly can. Cobs covers his eyes and yells not expecting the sudden brightness.
I shove past him and rush to Balloon's box next to me and look for a way to open the door. Thats when I realized.
Cobs has the button to open the boxes.
"CRUD!" I exclaim. I had been so focused on the plan that I forgot how I was supposed to open the doors in the first place.
I yelped as Cobs grabbed my arm and I struggled to pull away, but he had a tight grip on my arm. It was beginning to hurt.
I then kicked him in the leg with all my strength and he suddenly let go and yelled in pain.
I sprinted across the room to try and find something else to open the doors, but tripped over my own feet and hit the floor. I heard a loud crack, and then everything blacked out.
.
.
.
Fan's POV:
No! She was so close!
I watched as Lightbulb lit herself up, blinding Cobs for just enough time to run out, but she couldnt open our boxes.
I glanced at Balloon who looked devastated. We watched as Cobs picked up Lightbulb, who was now unconcious, by the arm. It was revealed that the large hole that had been in Lightbulbs head before had gotten much larger. She was now missing her left eye.
"If ANY of you try a move like that again, there will be severe consequences." Cobs snarls. He drags Lightbulb out of the room and I rush to the front of my box trying to get to her, but the box prevented me from doing so.
I slam my fist down on the thick glass wall of the box in anger. I hated this. I hated this room. I hated being trapped here. I hated watching my friends get taken to suffer. I hated .
After a while Cobs came back with Lightbulb, who was still unconcious, and threw her into her box. "Thats enough for today."
Cobs then walked off leaving us all alone. I glanced at Lightbulb with a worried look on my face.
I hope she's ok...
Nothing else happened after that. Everything was quiet and eventually the lights shut off signifying that it was nighttime. I heard shuffling as people began to lay down to sleep.
I suddenly heard a buzz come from behind me. I noticed it was that stupid phone that Cobs had given me the first day we met. I walked over to it and examined it before picking it up and slamming it down on the ground and watching it break into pieces.
It was satisfying watching the pieces scatter across the floor of the box, something Cobs had worked so hard to make, being shattered on the floor. He deserved it.
But then it reminded me. If the new phone was in the box, then my old phone could possibly be in here as well, the one I had gotten before Cobs gave me the new one. I immediately searched around the floor frantically for the other phone and began to panic when I couldnt find it.
No no no I shouldve kept the new one!
Just as I was about to start breaking down, I noticed something shiny out of the corner of my eye.
MY PHONE!
I scrambled over to it and picked it up. Never in my life had I been so excited to see a phone. I immediately called the first number I could. It was Test Tube
Please pick up please pick up...
"Fan?!" I hear Test Tube call from her end of the phone.
"TEST TUBE THANK GOODNESS!" I couldn't be happier to hear her voice. "Test tube I need you to find someone to track my phone so you can find me." I say with a tone of urgency in my voice.
"I can probably try to do it myself! Are you doing ok???" Test Tube says. "Im... alright at the moment but I dont know... Balloon and Lightbulb are here but-" I was so excited to be talking to someone outside of the lab that I didnt hear Balloon trying to warn me.
Finally I heard him but by the time I realized, it was too late.
Cobs had opened my box and was standing right there. I gasped and dropped my phone. I panicked and tried to reach for it but Cobs picked it up before I could.
I watched as he threw the phone down on the ground and slammed his foot down on the phone, snapping it in half.
My heart dropped. My only way of communication, the only way I could call for help, had just been destroyed.
Cobs grabbed my arm suddenly and I screamed out of fear. Balloon was watching and covering his mouth.
"I thought I made it clear that if you tried anything there would be severe consequences." Cobs snapped.
"I-Im sorry I wont try it again!" I stuttered. I was trying not to show how scared I was, but I was shaking uncontrollably, making it very clear that I was terrified.
Cobs studied me for a moment before dropping me. "I'll let you off the hook for now." He glared at me and then walked off, closing the door to my box in the process.
I backed into the corner of my box, still shaking. Balloon scooted to the wall closest to me.
"Are you ok Fan?" He asks. I nod shakily not having any words to say. Balloon then gives a symathetic smile.
"We can make it through this Fan, everything will be ok." Balloon says in a sort of whisper.
Thats what you've been saying but I dont see any way of getting out.
I just turn away and lay down without saying anything. I felt kind of bad because I saw Balloon frown and then scoot away, but I could tell that even he felt unsure of himself.
After a while of staring, I decided to just close my eyes and get some rest.
.
.
.
Test Tube's POV:
FAN JUST CALLED ME! Now I know he's ok, or at least... I think he's ok... midway through the call he just suddenly gasped and I heard a lot of clatter, then the call just suddenly ended without warning.
I think something happened to him.
I reach for my phone and try to call him again, but it immediately goes to voicemail. I let out a dissapointed sigh.
I then go to Paintbrush in my contacts.
"Paintbrush, Fan just called me! He's with Lightbulb and Balloon but I think something happened to him because I heard a lot of clatter and the call ended in the middle of him talking." I type
I waited for a response.
"What?! Do you know if they're ok?!" Paintbrush responds almost immediately, probably having trouble sleeping.
"Fan said they were ok at the time, but now im not so sure." I reply to Paintbrush.
Paintbrush doesnt say anything.
"Fan told me to try and track his phone, do you wanna help me do that tomorrow?" I ask.
"Sure, and if that doesnt work ive got another plan." Paintbrush responds. I clap my hands together. We have a better chance at finding everyone now. I smile and begin to type.
"Great! Meet me in the lunchroom tomorrow morning. I'll see you tomorrow." I type. I then turn off my phone and set it on my bedside table.
I lay down, and stare at the ceiling for a while, thinking of what it will be like to get everyone back safely.
All the thinking ended up making me tired and before I knew it, I had drifted off to sleep.
I'm getting you back Fan, I promise.

Fateless: The Silver Lining
It has been ten years of peace for the Union since the end of the great war with the eastern barbarian tribes, yet in the cold north of the Union's land, a new threat is looming. This time, an ambitious Lord is seeking to restore the yore pride of his kin, forcing the weakened Union into yet another unwanted war, as he ramps up the ranks of his army with thieves, murderers and mercenaries.* * *The temperature inside the forge was nearly twice as high as the one outside. A black-haired girl hammered a steel ingot into the shape of a blade. The heat of the steam was draining her stamina away, but her focus remained sharp as her sweat streamed down her face. Hit after hit, for hours, the sound of the hammering steel followed the rhythm of her breathing. Exhausted, she placed the blade into the water and wiped the sweat off her face using a drenched rag. Why are they screaming? Vatra dipped the rag back in the water, twisted it, and approached the window. Her mouth opened as her world shattered again into the living nightmare she had wilfully tried to forget. She bit her lips; it wasn’t a dream. The pulse of her heart rose. A cold sweat prickled her back. A mother was running, and a child was screaming. A torrent of smoke was emerging from the roof of her neighbour. Vatra’s eyes blinked. The mother lay on the ground, a spear through her back. A torch circled in the air and landed on the roof of her workshop. In the distance, a man wearing a banner well known to the world… Fateless is a philosophical medieval dark low fantasy centered on war, militaristic campaigns and geopolitical conflicts between multiple empires. This story follows the fate of Vatra, a former slave from the eastern Nar Empire who was raised in a culture far away from her own, forced into warfare against her will, and the fate of Lanaya, an ambitious half-angel exiled from her home whose existence is seen as heresy. As they wished for peace, both chose a path opposed to one another until their fate crossed. In this story where war dictates the law, love strikes them as a poisoned balm to which they grasp for with all their might, as it is in the darkest of times that the smallest flames may burn the brightest. * * * Tome 1 already completed and available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/Fateless-Silver-Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot/dp/B09LGSH1KK Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hugo-Emmanuel-Simard-Wallot-100547579135891/ I will publish 1 chapter per week (sometimes 2 if the chapters are too short for my liking).

Based on true events in my life. Think of these stories as H P Lovecraft meets Rob Zombie. Each story has pieces, confessions, from the rural decay of Appalachia wrapped in horror and madness. All are set in the fictional county of Lear, which is a dark mirror held up to surface, idealized countryside. Blood and familial ties bind deep in a hopeless and rotted south. Tales are whispered of Hill Witches and Demons. Shunned communities molder. All these truths are hidden in the stories of deceit and lies. The first arc revolves around theft and exploitation at one of the last factories of Lear County. Abuse of power draws all down the path of madness.
