The puppies ^

I looked at the time on clock and furrowed my brows, its was past 3 the time that Alex usually gets home from work and it made me worry. I grabbed my phone and opened the contact lost to dial his number only for his name to flash on my screen and I quickly pressed the answer button

Before I could even get a word in, I heard him crying in the background making me worry even more. What the hell is going on? Did he get in a car accident? Was the diner under attack? So many scenarios crossed my mind but none of that happened as I heard a familiar voice in the background

"Alex, sweetie calm down" Molly soothed and Alex sniffled

"Baby?" I asked and he gasped finally realizing I was on the line before bursting back into hysterics and I could feel the phone being moved around before Mollys voice rang through the speakers

"Can you tell me what the hell is going on and why Alex is crying?" I asked as I grabbed my car keys and threw on a jacket on as it was raining cats and dogs outside.

"Alex came into my office a little while ago with an injured puppy and he's in hysterics because the puppy needs to have surgery in order to safe his life" she explained and I closed my eyes, leave it to Alex to worry about a puppy. That's one of the many things I loved about him. He was caring, and very sensitive when it comes to cute and cuddly animals

"What happened?" I asked as I practically ran to my car and got in. The rain thunder against the hood of the car as I turned the engine on. I connected the call to Bluetooth before I pulled out of the driveway.

"He said he was driving home when he saw a box on the side of the road and he went to check it out and saw a litter of puppies inside. Alex did a good job in bringing them straight over here. My team and I working very hard to save them but there's one of the puppies, his the ring of the litter, who needs extra attention. He has two broken bones, heart worm and many other health problems. The one we need to focus on the most is his heart" she said and I swallowed the lump in my throat as I drove to the vet clinic that was twenty minutes away from my house.

We still haven't gotten a call or email from the realtor and it's to be expected as it's only been a day sucks we went and looked at but we're crossing our fingers that we get the house. It's time that we have our own place instead of alternating from his Blake and mine every other week.

Don't get me wrong I love our families but there's no privacy. We can't do anything without having one of our siblings walking in without knocking on the door not caring if we were about to be intimate or just wanting to have alone time with each other.

I talked to Alex and told him that if we didn't get the house, then we would look at apartments to move into until we found the perfect house, but he was adamant that we would get it and that we only had to deal with our family intruding for a little longer.

"How bad does it look?" I asked and I could hear noise in the background instead of Alex's cries letting me know that Molly had left the room he was in to speak more clearly as we couldn't really ear each other over his cries.

"Not so good. He was born with a hole in his heart, Riley and the chances of the puppy surviving surgery are slim" she replied and I sighed running an hand through my hair as I stopped at a red light, the rain was slowly stopping and I could see the sun starting to peek through the dark clouds

"Do whatever you can to save him, Molls. That little guy doesn't deserve his life taken away so soon" I murmured and she said that she would do her absolute best to save the puppy before we both exchanged goodbyes just as I pulled into the clinic and parked my car beside Alex's and turned it off before climbing out. I practically ran up the steps to reach Alex quickly. Knowing him, as well as I do, he's devastated and needs someone to be there to tell him that everything would be okay.

"Hello, can I help you sir?" The front desk girl asked with a smile as her eyes looked me up and down making me feel uncomfortable

"Yeah, I'm actually looking for Alex, the guy that brought in the littler of puppies a few moments ago. He was taken to a room by the head vet, Dr. M-" I began saying when I heard my name being called and looked over to see Alex standing in the hall and I walked over to him before pulling into a hug making him wrap his arms around my waist and bury his face in my chest as his shoulders began to shake and my shirt became wet from his tears

"Shh, baby, everything will be okay" I murmured kissing the top of his head and he sniffled before pulling away and looking up at me with red puffy eyes as tears continue to cascade down his flushed cheeks. I gave him a soft smile as I wiped his tears away with the pads of my thumbs before leaning down and kissing his forehead before pecking him on the lips

"Come on, lets go to the room you were just in" I murmured and he nodded before leading me to a room done the hall

"How you holding up?" I asked and he shrugged

"How can a person be so cruel and mejor dump a box filled with puppies on the side of the road like that?" He asked with fresh tears rolling down his face and I bit my lip piling him closer so he could bury his face in my chest as he cried

"I don't know sweetheart, but whatever happens, we'll make sure they have the best life they could ever have" I murmured kissing the top of his head.

"Promise?"he whispered making me smile and kiss his head again

"Promise baby" I repeated and he nodded and soon enough, his breathing evened out and his body went slack but I held him close as he slept. He had a long day and to top it off, he found a box of puppies inside on the road with a puppy fighting for his life.

Hours passed and Alex woke up just as Molly walked in with a smile on her face making me raise a brow as Alex looked hopeful

"Well?" He asked and Molly chuckled walks in further into the room before taking a seat on the stool by the counter

"I did what I had to do to safe that puppy, and well that little guy is one strong little dude. He made it through surgery but now we have to wait and see if he'll pull through over night" she said and Alex sighed in relief even though he was still worried.

"Did you ever find the owner or owners?" I questioned but she shook her head

"We searched for chips that owners usual put on their pets in order to be found in case they go missing but none of them have any identification to them. The box didn't have anything either, we called the police and they're going to do an investigation as they're saying this is a case of animal cruelty" Molly said and I nodded

"How are the other puppies doing?" Alex quizzed and Molly smile

"They're all perfectly healthy with a minor case of dehydration and malnourishment. They already got fluids in them as fed them." She said and we nodded

"How old do you think are?" I asked and she sighed giving us a small smile

"No older than 8 weeks. They would still be feeding from their mother had they not been separated from her" she said and Alex sighed

"I can have Carlie, my dad's dog, be their surrogate mother until they're old enough to feed on their own" I suggested and Molly nodded

"Ask him if she can, I know she just had puppies of her own not long ago" she said and I nodded

"I will, and I'm sure that Carlie will take them in. How many puppies were in the box?" I replied

"Six, 4 males and 2 females" she answered before she excused herself saying she needed to go check on the puppies

"Think she'll accept them as her own?" Alex asked and I nodded

"Yeah, now come on, lets go home. Well come back in the morning to check on them" I said as I stood from my seat and Alex, though reluctant, followed behind.

It was roughly 6 in the morning and I couldn't sleep so I decided to go on a run with Montana and Shadow since Carlie was caring for her puppies. It had been a surprise to us when we found out she was expecting. We didn't even know how it happened considering Montana and Shadow were kept in separate rooms whenever she got into heats. It was crazy seeing both male dogs go insane and always wanting to jump the poor dog whoever she had her days.

"Alright boys, lets go" I said as I opened the door and they were out in seconds making me shake my head. I closed the door softly after leaving Alex a note saying that I would be back in case he woke up before I got back.

The sun was starting to rise in the horizon by the time I decided that it was time to back and whistled to get whir attention

"Lets go" I called and they came running towards me panting. I rubbed bending their ears before patting their heads and began our trek home.

We got home with the sun barley touching the sky. I looked at time and saw that it was 7:20 am. I went into my room and grabbed clean clothes before heading to the bathroom to shower. Once that was set and done, I climbed back in bed making Alex cuddle into my side and I smiled kissing his head

"Where did you go?" he mumbled

"Went for a run" I replied and he nodded kissing hey chest before falling back to sleep.

I wasn't far behind. Just as I felt my eyes close, my phone vibrated on the nightstand making me groan and reach to grab it before squirting since the screen was to bright. Once I lowered the brightness, I saw an email notification so I clicked on it to see that it was from the realtor, Maggie.

Hello, Mr. Cordelli and Mr. Gallagher

I'm writing you this email to let you know that the owners have accepted your offer. Congratulations. Come by my office as soon as you can so I can give you the keys

I read and retread the words on the screen over and over until my eyes burned and I was forced to lock my phone and felt Alex look up with sleepy eyes

"What's wrong?" He asked sitting up and wiping the sleep from his eyes and I smiled

"Nothing, but I think you're going to like what I have to say next" I said and he furrowed his brows but waited for me to continue and I grinned

"I just got an email from Maggie" I said and he blocked all traces of sleep gone

"And?" He asked in exasperation

"We got the house" I said and his eyes widen as his mouth fell open

"Are serious?" He asked and I nodded and showed him the email that I read at least five times

"Hello, Mr. Cordelli and Mr. Gallagher

I'm writing you this email to let you know that the owners have accepted your offer. Congratulations. Come by my office as soon as you can so I can give you the keys" he read out loud before practically launching himself at me and wrapping his arms and legs around me making laugh as I wrap my arms around his waist

"We got the house" he murmured resting his forehead against mine, eyes closed and a content smile on his face and I hummed

"We got the house"

It still felt surreal to think that as of today, Alex and I were proud owners of one of the most beautiful houses in Boston. Life was finally going the way it should and I couldn't wait to see where it takes us next.
