《My Brothers Best Friend》Chapter 13 // Misunderstandings

Annabelle's POV:
Rhydian flew backwards into my desk narrowly missing me and knocked over the whole contents of my desk. I hopped over to Carter gripping his arm tightly but with one swift swipe he pushed me onto the bed and continued onwards to Rhydian. With Rhydian still crouched over on the floor he began kicking him. "Don't...you...touch...her", with each shouted word he sent another kick right into his guts. Rhydian's groans became louder with each assault and I could tell he was in pain. I cried out willing them to stop but he didn't and then Rhydian kicked into action, he grabbed his ankle and pulled Carter down to the ground with him.
As Carter fell he put out his elbow connecting it with Rhydian's face making it instantly light up a light blue colour. Rhydian grabbed the back of Carter's head and banged it up against the desk leg making the whole object shake. I ran over afraid to intervene and shouted Stop! as loud as I could but they still didn't stop. Rhydian turned Carter around and tucked his arm around his neck and while Rhydian struggled to keep hold, Carter began thrusting his elbows into his abdomen. Rhydian's grip loosened as Carter ran backwards and collided Rhydian with the wall. He completely let go as he swung miserably at Carter. Carter avoided the attack with ease and threw Rhydian down beside the bed. He then got on top of Rhydian and repeatedly kept punching him and that was when I began to feel the tears fill my eyes.
I ran over to Carter and tried to restrain his arm, he turned to look at me and stood for a second as Rhydian came back once again and punched into the side of Carter's head making him lose all balance. The boys were both black and blue and so I saw a chance. As Carter strode up to match Rhydian I stood in the way with arms outstretched and shouted at the top of my lungs, "Enough!". The boys looked to each other and then to me and defeat plagued them both as they proceeded to look at the floor. I brought my sleeve up and wiped the wet tears from my face and coughed. I looked at Carter first and said sternly, "you should have asked before jumping fist first" and at this his eyebrows creased. I then looked over at Rhydian who looked indefinitely more bruised that Carter and said, "the situation is fucked at the moment so can you please leave". He looked at me confused for a minute.

He just stared at me as Carter piped up and said, "she said leave". His voice was confident and angry and calm, all at the same time. Rhydian looked at me but I said nothing as he carried himself away. The room was silent until we heard the front door close and Carter spoke up once again, "are you ok?". He looked at me all over and I felt myself blush, I still had wet hair from the shower and my clothes were worn and baggy. "He came over to apologise" I said quietly, Rhydian looked at me seriously and said harshly, "well you still shouldn't have let him in". I smiled a little bit and saw a smirk begin to grow on his face. He let out a yawn and I realised he was still in his party clothes and that he probably hadn't even gone home yet.
"Do you want to have a shower and take a power nap?" I asked him, he looked at me innocently and shook his head. The slight smile was still plastered on his face as I cheekily said, "I wasn't asking you i was telling you". I smiled back at him and pushed the hair behind my ear. He stepped forward to me closing the gap making my body heat up and said "I'm pretty sure you gave me an option". He had the cheekiest grin on his face which made his dimples show and I had to look away to stop him from seeing me turn bright red. I laughed gently as he said, "While I'm here I may as well". He scratched the back of his neck and looked at me. "I'm sure Danny won't mind you wearing his clothes...wherever he is", I rolled my eyes as Carter nodded and left the room. When he left I let out a sigh, I'd had such an eventful few days that I needed to sit down and just relax.

The Mischievous Mrs. Maxfield
***The wrong girl is sometimes The Right One.*** Charlotte Samuels thought she'd be stuck waiting tables at Marlow's until all her debts are paid off-in about ten thousand years or so. She definitely didn't expect a marriage proposal from the arrogant Brandon Maxfield who was blackmailed by his father to make her his wife if he didn't want his least favorite cousin to run Maxfield Industries. Charlotte's instinct was to say HELL NO! but she's stumped by a few obstacles: 1.) His old man Martin Maxfield is dear to her heart and has been recently deteriorating in health. 2.) She gets a million dollars if she stays married to Brandon for a year. 3.) She would rather like the opportunity to teach the attractive but awfully rude man a few lessons he didn't think he needed from a 'teenage gold-digger' which was his term of endearment for her on their first date-er, business meeting. So what's a girl got to do, right? Sure, she's young and a little rough around the edges but there's something her would-be husband didn't know about her yet-she's nothing like he ever expected. Thrust into the glitzy world a standard-issue Mrs. Maxfield would fit perfectly and rule with impeccable social grace, Charlotte will either have to force herself into the mold or break free of it, risking what little she has left for everything that she can gain.*** Copyright © 2014 by Nina Tippett.
