《My Brothers Best Friend》Chapter 19 // I Choose You

Annabelle's POV:
Toby's diner was a little place just a few minutes from where I lived that Danny loved to hang out at with his friends. We use to go with our Nana before she died and since then I hadn't really been. It was one of those really classic, American diner's but our Nana had loved that era. When we arrived we looked to see in the back booth: Danny, Carter and Matt. We slowly walked over and sat opposite them. All three of them had the biggest grins on their faces and me and Tara looked at each other inquisitively. Danny coughed a little then spoke, "so you know Matt's birthday is coming up" we nodded and looked without blinking. "In a couple of weeks" Tara said squinting her eyes, he nodded as Matt butted in "yep but for my birthday my family and I are going away". We both looked at him and then to Danny as he said, "so he's decided he wanted to do a beach day with the boys". We registered and nodded as I asked, "so what does that have to do with us?". The boys all had huge grins on their faces as Matt said jovially, "the catch is they have to bring a date".
We stared at them in shock for a moment as Elizabeth's brother Elijah walked in. He walked in and pulled over a chair as he spudded the boys. "You texted Dan?" he asked, with our confused selves Danny explained to Elijah Matt's plan. "I like that idea" Elijah said smiling, I turned to see Tara and Elijah staring at each other. I looked over at Tara with a look of shock on my face, was Tara blushing?! I knew her and Elijah had history and that they had kissed at a party once but since then they had seemed to have friend zoned each other. I looked over at Danny feeling rather annoyed his clingy girlfriend had woke me in the night and now he was ready to run off to the beach with another girl.

"Danny are you bringing Gwen then?" I asked him conspiringly. He looked at me and shook his head, "I'm not with Gwen anymore" he said confidently. I knew this would be his answer but I just wanted him to say it, "she didn't seem to think that when she was waking me up at the window at 2 in the morning looking for you", I said this sternly and at this he stared harshly at me but I brushed it off. There was silence for a few seconds before Carter finally spoke up, "on lighter topics who's everyone picking?". Tara and I looked at each other baffled for a few moments, the boys were all delegating as Tara said, "do we even have a choice? If not why are we here". The boys looked at each other and laughed as Carter said, "honestly we just wanted to see you're faces when we told you, better face to face then over the phone". I rolled my eyes as Tara stood up and I followed suit, we began to walk away as Matt called after us, "where are you going?". Honestly I didn't know so I was waiting for Tara to answer and thank Jesus she did, "your planning doesn't involve us so we're going to leave now". She gave a sarcastic smile and carried on.
"Actually!" Matt called, we turned as he beckoned us over and with resent we went back over to the table. "Actually I wanted to ask my girl sooner rather than later", Matt had a cheeky grin plastered on his face and we looked at each other confused, the boys did also. "I thought we hadn't decided yet Matt?" Carter asked, Matt shook his head and spoke confidently, "I wanted to sort it out early, so what do you say Anna?". I looked at him with widened eyes, I was at a loss for words and I was speechless for a moment. I was shaken from my coma as I felt Tara's elbow dig into my side, before I could speak, Carter spoke "why Annabelle?". There was a harshness to his voice and he seemed to be staring down Matt but I felt so off guard. "We just have that kind of relationship" he said proudly, I saw Danny's eyes look into Matt's and said, "relationship?" he then looked at me. I swallowed my spit and decided to speak, "Matt you're not serious we don't have a relationship and we never will do I'm not another conquest". The words came out harsher then I intended but I meant them, meanwhile Matt looked like a scolded school boy. "Anna, I would just like to spend some time with you", he looked at me with big blue eyes and I felt myself blush for a second. "I'll think about it" I said confidently and turned to walk away. Tara ran to my side and said "Annabelle the heart breaker" and at this I laughed.

We got in the car and Tara drove me home, I ate dinner and went up to my room for the rest of the night. I hadn't done much in the day but I felt drained and so I went to sleep early.
