《Brother of Wind {book five: Possession}》chapter 13

At the tea shop, the four ninja and others gathered to discuss and use the land as a base.
"There. This should keep customers away." Zane said as he hung up a sign at the gate.
"Closed for renovations."
Kai placed a bucket of water on the door.
"More like fortifications." He jumped down.
"If any of those ghosts show up here to steal the Sword of Sanctuary, they won't know what hit 'em!!"
Cole opened the door to walk outside. The bucket almost fell on him. He jumped back just in time to avoid the water.
"Careful! You know not all of us are immune to water. And I for one would like to stick around d long enough for Misako and Sensei to figure out the last clue." Cole jumped his way out.
"We got cyclondo, we got the sword." Jay said, covering the small stream with small bamboo poles tied together.
"Now, we just have to figure out where through tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master is, and get Morro back and wake up Lloyd." Jay said.
"That's a lot more than I realized." He admitted.
"Well, let's hope they figure it out soon. I don't know how long we'll be able to hold out." Kai said.
Inside the shop, the three marks on the staff lay kn the wall, the first two crossed out. Only the last one remained. A skull with a crack down the top.
"We know the skull represents his tomb." Wu examined the parchment.
"But from everything that was ever written about it, there's nothing in Ninjago that matches its description." Misako said, bent over a book infromt of her.
"Where is it? The clues are all right here, but what are we missing?"
"We mustn't give up. If the ghosts find it first and take the Realm Crystal, I'd hate to think what would happen next." Wu said.
"It's at times like this, I wish Morro was around to help with research." Misako sighed. The bells chimed as a warning.
"The early-detection warning system." Misako exclaimed.
"Intruder!" Kao shouted.
"Let him have it. Pull!" Jay raise his hand. On Jay's command, the ninja each launched water ballons in the air. They each hit the board hanging from the gate and splattered on to the 'intruder': the mail man.
Instant regret.
"Hah. No wonder you're going out of business." He handed a letter to Kai and walked off.
"No!! You're the one going out of business!!" Jay shouted.
"Who sends letters anymore?"
"Guys, he's right. It says he's gonna shut us down unless we drum up some business." Kai showed the others the letter.
"Well, don't tell Ronin. If this place is worthless, he won't stick around and we need all the help we can get." Cole said.
"Come on, we're gonna need more water balloons." He rushed off.
"Come on, Nya! Become the water! Reverse the flow!!" The girl reached out her hand to the tap by the pond.
Nya sighed and placed her hand down. She stared at the dripping tap.
"Give up already?" Ronin asker, polishing his ship.
"Of course not! Sensei thinks if I get over my fear of failure, I'll be able to to control the water." Nya said.
"I mean-- I made it rain when I wasn't even paying attention." Nya sighed.
"It's a bit unfair." She said.
"Unfair?" Ronin asked.
"All the guys had Morro help them control their powers. If he was here, I bet he could... I dunno, help me even more. He's a good teacher." Nya said.

"But right now, who knows what's happening to him. We might as well me aware of everything, but he would've come home. I'm worried something happened to him." She leaned against the rock with the tap on it.
"Your team really relies on Morro, huh." Ronin said.
"Well, yeah. He's a big part of our team. We need to get him home. And as he's out there surrounded by ghosts, lies and danger, I'm here standing in front of a pond. Failing over and over again at even stopping a single drop." Nya sighed.
"Wanna know about failure, should've asked me. Heck, I made a career out of it." Ronin grinned.
"Word of advice: don't try so hard. You can't fail if you don't care."
"Don't try? What sort of backwards advice is that?" Nya tilted her head in confusion.
"Of course I'm gonna try hard. That's how one excels and--"
"Speaking of backwards..." Ronin pointed behind to the water falling upwards to the bamboo spout.
Nya gasped as Ronin went back to polishing his ship.
"Oh my gosh! I'm doing it. I'm really doing it!" Nya exclaimed.
"Like I said, don't care so much. Usually when someone wants something too badly, they'll trip over their own feet." The bounty hunter chuckled.
"Eh--..." Ronin froze his movements.
The ghosts had returned to Stiix and Bansha was telepathicly communicating with Ronin.
"Can he hear you?" Soul Archer asked.
"Yes, he can hear me." Bansha replied.
"Tell him it's time to pay his debt. Tell him to bring us the sword." Soul Archer said.
"How do you do that?" Neran asked.
"No interruptions, child." Bansha scolded. Neran sat beside a passed out Morro. He looked so blissful leaning against the wall with his eyes closed. But he could wake up soon.
"Hey, kid. Forget the blonde." Soul Archer said.
"Focuse on the master of wind."
"What?" Neran asked, glancing at Morro.
"You've already shown you can out match the ninja in a fight easily. And apparently, this wind master is one powerful force. Using his wind should give you much more of an advantage against the ninja, even with elemental powers." Soul Archer said.
"So, forget the green ninja, use the wind master."
Neran looked at Morro then back at Soul Archer.
"But I-- I can't use hi--"
"You should listen if you don't want to go back." Soul Archer interrupted. Neran froze. He had the memory of cold. And his right arm hurting.
"Yeah, okay." Neran said, taking shallow breaths and dissapearing. Morro shifted in his place.
. . .
Ronin searched the shelved of the shop for the sword.
"Thanks for gathering on short notice." Misako said walking in.
"Looking for something?" Kai asked Ronin.
"Ha, just making sure the tea blends are in alphabetical order. Yup, A to Z, heh." Ronin tapped the shelves.
"So you figured out where the tomb is?" Jay asked.
"Not yet, but we think we know how to locate it." Misako said. Ronin awkwardly shuffled away as Wu walked in.
"Zane." Misako said. Zane's titanium falcon projected an image on the wall. The finale symbol.
"To bring you up to date, the skull symbol refers to the tomb's entrance." Misako said.
"We also know my father's resting site, where the Realm Crystal resides, is protected by three deadly tests designed to keep anyone unworthy away, and only the Sword of Sanctuary can see past its riddles." Wu added.
"Yeah, but where is it?" Cole asked.

"We started to wonder if the scroll and sword combined held a secret." Misako reminded of the scroll of airjitzu.
"That's when Kai reminded us there was a map on the back of the scroll a--"
"And if you use the sword on the map, the blade's reflection will reveal the tomb's location!" Kai exclaimed.
"Exactly." Misako said.
"Which means we'll have to get our hands on that map." Cole said. Ronin walked out the door.
The ninja heard sounds coming from the back room of the shop.
"That's Lloyd." Jay said rushing to the room, everyone following. The green ninja was still asleep in the bed. However, his breath was heavy and it was like he was fighting a battle inside himself. Misakp sighed.
"Any developments on the linked wisteria?" She asked.
"All we obtained is that Morro and Lloyd are connected by it." Zane informed.
"Still no known antidote. I'm beginning to believe there is nothing that can break a wisteria link." The nindroid said.
"...ro... F-...ght." Lloyd whispered.
"Is he awake?!" Cole asked. Lloyd didn't open his eyes.
"He doesn't look like it." Jay said. Wu placed his hand on Lloyd's forehead.
"He appears to be recovering. Everyone, go back to discuss the plan while I made healing tea for Lloyd.' Wu said. The ninja nodded.
If Lloyd's side of the link is like this, what's the other end doing? What's going on with these brothers?
Ronin spotted a side shed next to the main building.
"Ah..." He sighed as he found the crimson box that was in the corner. Opening it, there was no sword.
"Something about what you said stuck with me."
Ronin turned around, Nya sat atop a shelf with the Sword of Sanctuary pointed at Ronin's face.
"Oh, yeah? A-and what's that?" Ronin asked. Nya jumped down.
"That you don't care. If you don't, why are you here?" Nya pressed.
"Sure, this tea shop could potentially help pay off your debt in time... Or, you could just speed things up by giving them the sword in exchange for your cursed soul." She grinned.
"So... Where does that leave us?" Ronin asked.
"I don't need the sword to tell me where this is going."
Ronin threw his had across the room, Nya jumping back to avoid it. Ronin grabbed a gardening hoe to use against Nya. Ronin forced the hoe and the sword down to the floor.
"I need that sword!" Ronin exclaimed. Nya looked at the blade.
"I don't wanna hafta hurt you!" Ronin went on.
"You know, I was thinking the same thing!" Nya said then saw the reflection. A kiss. No. Nya kicked Ronin in the shin.
"What would I do to deserve that?!"
"You know what you were about to do!" Nya closed her eyes. Ronin tripped Nya over and grabbed the sword from the air.
"Like I said. Try too hard and you'll trip over yourself." He kicked his hat back onto his head and ran off.
"He's getting away with the sword!!" Nya shouted.
Ronin's path blocked by the four ninja.
"Woah, woah, woah. We can do this the easy way or the hard way." Ronin said.
Jay and Kai tripped over the tripwire they set, making water balloons fly at Jay while Kai fell into the river around the platform. Cole pushed Zane out of the way and onto a catapult, launching Zane into the air. Jay got hit with another water ballon Cole was rolling around trying to about death, Zane was flying, and Kai kept falling into the shallow water.
"Way too easy! You guys really need Morro back on your team." Ronin laughed. Nya ran out, jumping at Ronin. The thief quickly stepped aside and used Kai's head to step over the water. Ronin ran into the tea shop
And was greated by Misako with a katana in her hand. Ronin looked at the sword and saw her next move. She ran in, and moved her blade low. Ronin blocked it. Misako drew back and trusted her katana, stepping to the side and jumping in the counter.
Wu held a teacup to Lloyd. The boy slowly drank the tea. Wu turned back at the sound of swords clashing.
"Young nephew, I must leave you alone now." Wu closed the door behind him.
Ronin saw Wu coming up behind to strike and stepped aside, allowing Wu to join defense with Misako. Ronin cut the hanging tea leaves and power files the room.
"Ah, now that's a nice blend!" Ronin joked.
"We should fight more often!"
Cole and Zane opened the doors. Ronin ran to the back.
"Sorry kid." He said by Lloyd's door.
"Gottar find another way I guess." He whistled for his airship. Kai saw Rex fly away in the sky. He activated his airjitzu, but didn't fly high enough.
"He's getting away! To the bounty!" Kai told the other as they ran.
"Are we sure that's the wisest choice?" Wu summones his dragon.
"Care for a ride?" He helped Misako up.
"I thought you'd never ask." She joining him. The sky chase began. Rex was speeding through the air.
"He's fast." Wu said.
"You're faster." Misako encouraged.
"Let's get him, boy!"
Wu quickened his approach and looked in the cockpit. Empty! It's on auto pilot!
"He's not abroad the ship!" Misako exclaimed.
"It's a trick!" Wu shouted.
"Then where did Ronin go?" Kai wondered.
Nya stared at her reflection in the river. Then she heard whistling as she walked way. Nya spun around.
"Stop!!" Nya shouted, running after a small boat that Ronin steered.
"Yeah, right!" Ronin shouted.
"Why are you doing this?" Nya asked.
"You know why. Giving the ghosts the sword is the only thing that'll save me." Ronin said.
"Sould Archer'll never hold up his end of the bargain. You can't trust him!" Nya shouted.
"I have to. It's my only shot." Ronin said.
Nya stopped her running.
"Become the water. Become the water. Become the water." She reached her hand out. The water started to go backwards.
"Reverse the flow, Nya!" She shouted.
"You gotta be kidding me." Ronin said.
Ronin opened the sail.
The wind was unable to help.
Nya was almost successful when her grip on the stream broke.
"Face it, Nya. You're not strong enough! You care too much!" Ronin shouted as he sailed off.
Nya dropped to the ground.
"I'm sorry, Nya!" Ronin shouted.
"I wish it never had to come to this."
Nya punched the ground with anger. She failed.

He isn't here. He hasn't come for days. Weeks, maybe. I tired everyday after training. He's never here anymore. Maybe he found his own parents. Or, forgot about this. I sighed. I started to walk back to the monastery.
Where did you go? Neran...

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
