《Brother of Wind {book 3: Rebooted}》chapter 5

"We underestimate the importance of balance." Garmadon instructed. Lloyd wasn't sure he could focused and listen.
"When it's there, we're at peace. When something is off, everything falls. Ninjago is no different. It put too much faith in technology, allowing the Overlord to return, and because of your friends, now the world is without power. When one relies on something too much, we become weak, vulnerable, imbalanced." Garmadon continued his lecture.
"In order to find your Full Potential and unlock your true power, you must find your own balance." Garmadon placed a rock on a tower of others.
"I'm already the Golden Ninja, how much more power do I need?" Lloyd asked. He was struggling, balancing a tower of different rocks on his back.
"You've only scratched the surface! You have the potential to move mountains. Power of the First Spinjitzu Master!" Lloyd's father exclaimed.
"The Ninja destroyed the power substation, essentially destroying the Overlord and his Nindroids. Why can't we go back?" Lloyd asked.
"Essentially? Until the Overlord is fully erased from the system, we must not go back, but forward!" Garmadon placed a large rock on top of the tower. Lloyd took it by suprize and feel over, the ricks falling on top of him.
"If you can't move mountains, I guess we'll have to move over mountains." Garmadon said.
"Oh yeah?!" Lloyd said pushing the rocks off of him. This father and son bonding was nothing like he imagined.
"And this next one looks particularly steep." Garmadon pointed to the path ahead.
-(new?) Ninjago city-
"Over here! I found him!" Two workers shined a pocket torch around the factory and found Cyrus Borg lying on one of the conveyers.
"Are you all right Mr Borg?" The workers asked.
"Yes, yes but how long have I been out?" Borg asked.
"Quite a while, sir. We've been without power for a few days." The worker replied.
They helped Borg into a wheelchair and into his office.
"The hard drive...!" Borg exclaimed.
"It's missing! Have the Ninja returned with the Techno Blades? Please, it's very important!" He asked to workers.
The room went silent. The fact that the moon was the only course of light other than the occasional spark lit the place up made it seem darker than ever.
"Uh, no. There's been no one else inside the building." The workers finally said.
"....Wu!" Borg wheeled himself over the the corner. The was a table with straps but other than that, it was empty.
"He was right here! Where did he go? And who would take the hard drive when the Overlord virus is still on it? Oh, so many questions, so few answers." Borg placed his hands on his head.
-elsewhere-
"WHERE AM I!!" The voice of the Overlord echoed in the room.
"The Ninja destroyed all of the power. How have you saved me?" The Overlord asked the mysterious figure clocked in white that was in front of him.
"Electrocobrai. Though extremely rare, they're extremely useful." The stranger answered. Their voice stemmed masked. It wasn't a familiar one.
"Who are are you? What do you want from me?" The Overlord asked.
"Nothing but a small favor after returning you to power. You do still want to become flesh, if I'm not mistaken?" The stranger said.
"Yes, of course, but I need the Golden Ninja." The Overlord said.
"You'll get your hands on him in time. Our power is limited, we must be wise with our next move. Ninjago is vast, the Golden Ninja could be anywhere. And still, the Ninja have the only weapons that could erase you." The stranger grabbed a electrocobra with a rubber glove and held it nest to a table.

"The old man knows everything about the Ninja. All of their secrets. All of their hideouts. He will find them in no time."
-Jay's home-
"We've been digging for so long, I think I forgot what we're looking for!" Cole said trying to pull out a part from underneath a junk pile.
"A jiggly compact compress converter. Or was it a compress compact jiggly converter? Whatever it is, if it can get us back to New Ninjago City any sooner, it's worth finding." Kai said pulling out something. The large pile that was placed beside the two started to crumble.
"Oh no." Cole said. As the the junk started to fall on the ninja, Morro csualy walked by and pushed them out of the way with his elemental power.
"You're welcome." The wind ninja said.
Jay and his dad, Ed looked at the fallen pile of junk.
"We shut off the power thinking we could just waltz in but no. We didn't stop to think we were a bajillion miles away." Jay said to his dad.
"Hey! A compact converted jiggly compressor!" The lightning ninja picked up a machine part.
"Ah! Great find, kiddo. Now all we need to adapt that Hover-Copter's power supply to solar power is an upside down rotter derottermabob and a whiz bang automated amplifier!" Ed said. Jay nodded.
Cole and Kai climbed up to where the walker boys were. They sighed as they herd what their new item to find was.
"I'm starting to think they're just making this stuff up." Kai said.
Nya opened Zane's control center, his chest, and took out half of his power source. Zane felt slight pain.
"You sure you want to do this?" Nya asked.
"Modifying your original design could have ... unintentional consequences."
Zane looked at a lifeless Pixal in a chair beside him.
"She risked her life for me. It's the least I could do to get her back." Zane said.
Nya placed the half of Zane's power source into Pixal.
The female droid's eyes lit up be on green as she took a deep breath.
"Where am I? What happened?" Pixal looked at Zane's open chest.
"You gave me half your power source. My processor does not compute." She said.
"You are the only one who knows Borg's system. You are vital to the mission. And, you are vital to me." Zane took Pixal's hand.
"Ooh. Robot love." Edna said to Nya.
"Call me a sucker, but if they have half of what you and Jay have--"
"Nya and Jay?" Pixal interrupted.
"Judging from Perfect Match compatibility, perhaps Nya and Cole would be a closer comparison." She said.
"Nya and Cole are a better match?" Edna asked.
"Don't you mean Jay? Perhaps her processor was damaged." Zane implied.
"My processor is fully operational. The Perfect Match for Nya isn't Jay, but Cole." Pixal said.
"Cole's her perfect match?"
Everyone turned to the entrance of the camper. Jay was standing at the entenace with his dad right beside him.
"Jay..." Nya walked up to him. Jay frowned. Nya reached to grab his hand.
"Ha, it's so quiet in here. What did I miss? Another signature Jay Walker gut buster?" Cole asked. He, Kai and Morro walked in.
Jay's anger boiled up.
"Oh, you backstabbing, no good . . . YAAAHH!!" Jay jumped at Cole.
"Ahh! What's wrong with you?!" Cole shouted. The two started to fight.
"Okay, can someone tell me the context of what I'm witnessing here?" Morro asked.

"Oh, I hope Lloyd is fearing better than us." Kai sighed.
-mountains-
The two reached a cliff of a mountain with a broken bridge. It was broken, so no use to try and use it.
"Hey!" Lloyd looked down.
"Who needs bridges when you can manifest a Golden Dragon to--"
"You rely too much on your Golden Power. Let this be a lesson. Center yourself and move the mountain with your mind." Garmadon instructed.
"What? Move that? Are you kidding?" Lloyd exclaimed.
"Find your balance. Concentrate." Garmadon guided Lloyd to the edge. Lloyd gave in to his father's desire.
The green ninja reached his hands out. He tried to focus. Lloyd closed his eyes. He tried to feel the flow of the life around him. Surely enough, the mountain started to rumble and a few large boulders started to move their way and make a path overtop the gap.
"Aargh!" Lloyd flew back and knocked over his dad. The bridge blew I to pieces.
"This is pointless!" Lloyd yelled.
"Especially when I can do this!" Lloyd jumped into the air and summoned his golden dragon. The dragon fired at the gap between mountains and created a golden coloured crystal-like bridge across.
"Heh." Lloyd jumped down.
"I'm not the First Spinjitzu Master, and I never wanted to be. I'm the Golden Ninja!" Lloyd started to walk across. Garmadon face planted. A face plant so worthy of a meme.
"I know. I was once like this too." He said as he crossed.
-Jay's home.-
"Oh, you know why you're the Black Ninja? 'Cause it's the color of your heart!" Jay shoved Cole.
"Oh yeah? Well what's the point in being a Blue Ninja? Unless you're trying to hide out for some goofy clown college!" Cole shouted back.
"Ooh! You take that back! There are some reputable performers that attend clown college!" Jay grabbed Cole in a headlock and rubbed his fist against Cole's face.
The two rolled around on the ground, fighting.
"Will you two stop? I've had enough of your silly argument!" Morro said grabbing Cole's gi and trying to pull him off of Jay.
"You are acting like little kids! Stop it right now--"
"I don't see why you want to settle this arm wrestling. You know I have super strength!" Cole leaned forwards and pinned Jay down.
Zane tried to get Jay back and Kai tried with Cole. But the two kept on fighting.
"Oh yeah? Well I'm super hooped! And I haven't brushed my teeth in a week!" Jay exhaled onto Cole's face. Gross.
Pixal just stood there. Unable to comprehend why this random fight was happening. She turned to see Morro, who looked extremely pissed off and tired at the same time.
"This macho stuff is making you both look like fools. Maybe you belong together!" Nya shouted. The whole camper shook.
"What was that?" Kai asked.
"I don't know. Something's wrong." Morro said taking a wide stance. The camper got lifted up off the ground with a large magnet-crane-thing.
Ed opened to door.
"The machines haven't worked since the outage. What's powering it?" Ed exclaimed.
"Nindroids!" Kai pointed.
"Better question is, what's powering them?"
The camper started to be spun around in the air.
"They're after the Techno Blades." Pixal said.
Cryptor, stood up on a pile of junk and started to shoot at them. The walls broke open.
"YEAH, WELL THEY ALMOST HIT MY MOTHER!" Jay yelled.
"Ooh, don't worry about us, sweetie. We prepare for every type of situation." Edna said. Jay's parents were getting jetpacks on.
"You make one for me?" Jay asked
"Uh, sorry, honey. You hardly ever come to visit." Edna said.
"Yeah, good luck, kiddo. And watch over the junk while we're gone, will you?" Ed said as the two flew out either bubbles emitting from the jet pack.
"I blame you for this!!" Jay grabbed Cole's gi.
"What did I do? You were the one who wanted to stay in a scrapheap full of Nindroids!" Cole shouted back.
"Enough, you two!" Kai yelled.
"We may not have our Elemental Powers, but we still have our Spinjitzu!" Kai said.
"And Pixal? Will you be fine?" Morro asked.
"I may not be built to fight, but my protective reflexes should suffice." Pixal replied.
"Great! Cause you're gonna need 'em!" Nya said.
The nindroid controling the magnet swung the camped up and the ninja were stuck in the air for a few seconds. When it came back around, the magnet detached from the camper.
"Ninja-goo!" Kai, Cole, Jay, Morro and Nya (holding onto Kai) jumped out through the opening.
Zane and Pixal, weren't able to do much. Zane just flew out. He didn't do spinjitzu. Pixal grabbed his hand, making sure he didn't fall off. The camper started to fall towards Cryptor.
"Uh-oh" the general jumped out of the way as the camoer crashed.
"Argh!" Zane grunted as he fell to the ground.
The others landed on the crane.
"I couldn't do Spinjitzu!" Zane said.
"Your heart. Dividing it must have inhibited your fighting ability." Pixal suggested.
"I guess I have poor timing." Zane said.
Pour timing indeed Zane. Cryptor started to shoot at the two. The only thing Zane could do was grab Pixal and run.
"We have to help Zane!" Jay said.
"Finally, something we agree on!" Cole said. The two started to run towards Zane and Pixal when--
"AAAHHH!" They both fell into a trash compactor. What is this? Star wars?
"We're trapped!" Cole stated the obvious.
"And with my own worst enemy!" Jay stared at Cole. Then they did the breath thing again. They are literal children. What's worse is that the walls started to close in.
"Ah, I'm too cute to be squashed!" Jay yelled.
"Hey! Someone stop this thing!" Cole yelled.
"Bad nindroid! Bad nindroid!" Nya yelled at min-droid who was controlling the magnet.
"They're trapped!" Kai exclaimed.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure we know that." Morro said pulling out his staff.
"Kai watch out!"
"Huh? Woah!!" Kai jumped out of the way as the dodged a laser blast. The red ninja took out his blade and started to fight.
"This is going swell." Morro said running up to the top of the trash compactor. He stopped for a moment and looked to the side.
An old man with a long black bearded, metal and machinery covering half of his face and his torso. The man's eyes were glowing red, he held a black staff with red symbols and a silver hat that looked like a straw one.
Morro's eyes widened.
(
was his master. Sensei Wu had been turned against the ninja.
"Sensei..." Morro uttered.
"What did they do to you?!" He shouted with anger and fear.
Techno Wu raised his staff and struck.
Morro raised his own and blocked it. However, it didn't stop from Morro being kicked back. Slowly getting up, Morro tightened his grip on his staff.
"Sensei... They're gonna pay!"

A Virtual Invasion
An invasion from another dimension is shut down by an Empire's traitor and the world has a scant few decades to build the strength to resist a multidimensional Empire. How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
