《The Curious Case of Danielle Parker》thirty three

I had no concept of how much time had passed, how long I'd been down there. My eyes had adjusted slightly, and I could make out the walls of the room I was in - about the size of my bathroom at home - and empty. I couldn't even make out a door.
I'd tried everything I could think of; screaming, breaking out of the chains, even praying. Nothing even budged, and I was beginning to lose hope, fast. If no one came to kill me then I would starve to death. Or suffocate. There didn't seem to be a supply of air, and it would surely run out soon.
An indefinite amount of time later, I heard a sound. Metallic clicking, followed by a heavy screech. I winced as a dull light flooded into the small cell.
Footsteps approached, and it took me a moment to adjust to the sudden light.
"It's a shame really, she's pretty hot," a man's voice scoffed.
"Maybe she'd be down for some fun while we wait..." a different voice drawled, laced with a kind of superiority, like he was used to being entitled to things.
"No one touches her." Cold, hard and final. Obviously the leader.
I blinked, making out three figures. They were dressed in black leather. The part of me that was going slightly insane wanted to laugh at the cliche. Seriously, if they were playing out the whole kidnap game, they could at least come up with more original costumes.
But that so wasn't important.
They were pretty menacing to be honest. Scarred, dirty and radiating power, I was second guessing my ability to try and use this opportunity to escape. They could crush me with one hand.
"Who are you? What do you want?" I croaked, my voice hoarse from screaming.

The two flanking the door rolled their eyes. "Always the same fucking questions."
The taller, bigger built one of the three, the one who was obviously the leader, stepped into the cell and crouched down to my level. A haunting smirk spread across his face, as he reached out and brushed a strand of hair off my face.
I squirmed, his touch making me want to throw up.
"It's okay, little one. This will all be over soon."
"What are you going to do to me?" I yelled, struggling against the chains. If I had just a little more mobility in my feet I could probably kick him... But then that wouldn't really solve any of my problems.
He cocked his head to the side in mock sympathy. "Oh, I wouldn't worry too much. We'll make it painless. Well, as painless as possible."
Tears pricked my eyes and my stomach turned. "Why? What do you want? I can get you money."
The three men laughed. "Oh, we have plenty money darling," one of the others scoffed.
"When we heard there was a human luna, we were interested. But when we heard it was Levi Crestwood's luna... now that piqued our curiosity..." The leader trailed, looking at me like I was a piece of meat.
I stopped struggling. Levi. They knew Levi? And they knew I was a luna. Were they wolves too?
"Ah, that got her attention."
I glared at them, throwing as much hate onto them as I could. "What do you have to do with Levi?"
The leader sighed, standing up. "I see they decided to keep her in the dark after all. No matter. We have a lot of time to kill. She should at least know why she has to die."

I gasped sharply, cold dread coursing through my veins and into every cell in my body. I struggled to remain composed. Inside I was melting in fear, paralysed.
"Do you know how rare human lunas are, Danielle?"
I stared at him, not wanting to give him the satisfaction of an answer.
"Well, they are very rare. But, for some reason, in the last four years there have been two incidents. Of course we had our sights on the first one, Charlotte. Never really had a problem with her mate, but that's collateral in the grand scheme of things."
He was pacing the room, talking thoughtfully, as if he was recounting a fond, nostalgic memory.
"But then the bastard had to go knock her up, and we lost our window." One of the other guys kicked the wall, huffing.
"Indeed. The power had already been tied to someone else, her unborn child."
What power? I had no idea what they were talking about. What could this possibly have to do with me?
"We were very angry. But, we're not unreasonable. We moved on. And then you came along. Pure, unmarked and very convenient." He stopped pacing, turning to me. "We are very grateful for your sacrifice. It will make taking down Levi's pack so much easier."
I shook my head. "No, you have no idea what you're talking about! You would never win against Levi."
They laughed again, dry, haunting laughs. "Oh but that's where you're wrong. Because on the full moon, when we kill you, we will have the untapped power of a human luna, and there's not much that actually will be able to stop us."
"I have no power!" I cried, feeling myself getting hysterical.
"Oh, but you do. You may not know it, or how to use it. But when harnessed by a powerful wolf like me... oh god I will be unstoppable. And when I take Levi's last breath, I'll make sure he knows it's thanks to you that everyone has to die."
"No! No you're lying! You won't - you can't!" I screamed, tears streaming down my face. I thrashed around, determined to break out of the chains. I was in full panic mode now. Levi, Estelle, Georgia, the pack... he was going to kill them all, and there was nothing I could do about it. I screamed at him, every curse and insult I knew.
He looked down at me, a disappointed frown on his face. "Well I was hoping you'd be a lot more reasonable than that. Never mind. We'll see you in two days."
One of the other guys threw a bottle of water and protein bar in, and then the door was slammed behind them, returning the room to darkness.
I whimpered between shallow breaths. This was too much.
