《Maeve》ChapterThree: Eating with mice

Maeve could not wrap her head around him. He had barked into her cell, commanded her, lifted her from her neck and then screamed that she shouldn't even exist before disappearing. Two weeks went by with no contact with the King. Or that is what she calculated by using the light from the Sun.
Why shouldn't she exist? She had every right to be alive as much as the King. Yes, Maeve does not have blue blood running through her veins. And well she is not a werewolf either. But she is a friendly human.
Servants of the castle have been bringing her some bread and water to eat but as soon as they left Maeve has given them to the mice in her cell. She doesn't want anything from that monster. The mice she gives the food are as hungry as herself. Why would she have the right to eat when they don't.
The nights in the cell were cold. They had not brought her any duvets or pillows. Maeve only has her thin dress that is covered with dried blood and dirt. If she would be at home she would have washed it.
"You should start eating your food."
"Who is this." The girl politely asked.
"That isn't any of your business. The King wants you to eat."
"If he wants me to e-eat, he should also f-feed my friends."
The guard was confused. The weird girl wants to feed her friends. All the cells next to hers were empty. How could she have friends here? "Your friends?"
"Yes." Maeve simply answered. She couldn't understand him either. Why wouldn't he realize that her friends were hungry?
"Where are these friends of yours?"
"In this cell with me."
She has already lost her mind. The guard thought. "Your imaginary friends?"
"No, you s-silly. I mean the mice."
This girl should be in an asylum. Maybe that is why the King is keeping her. He has never kept humans alive more than few days. He was not sure if all of this was about a mind game. There was only one problem in that theory, the King had not seen her in two weeks.
"D-did I say so-something w-wrong?"
The guard didn't answer. "What do they call you?" he asked. This little creature is something he has never met before. And that intrigued him.

"Maeve." She whispered. "Well, Maeve my name is Caspian."
Maeve started to smile. When she smiled she looked even younger than she was. The man called Caspian was the nicest person she had met since being kidnapped. A chill ran along her spine as she thought how the others had treated her. Especially the King.
"Why are you b-being nice to me?" Maeve blurted.
"I'm not. You just intrigue me."
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" Why does she ask so many questions? Now he was starting to figure out why his cousin has decided to isolate her. But that does not explain why she is still breathing.
"Enjoy your last days, Maeve" Caspian said and leaved the cell were Maeve was being held with her mice.
A few hours later a servant boy brought her food. Unlike the other times now her food wasn't a piece of moldy bread and a glass of water. Now they brought her a steak with potatoes and a green salad. They also brought her a class filled with blood looking liquid.
Maeve could not understand them. Were they now worried about her health or what was happening? She has lost some pounds while being held in here. Before she was taken they were not the riches family but her mother always made sure that they had something to eat. Some days they even had meat, though that was really rare.
Now that she had a plate full of food that was high quality, Maeve did not know what to do with it.
It would be a terrible waste of food if she didn't eat it. Nonetheless she did not want to eat anything they gave. It could be poisoned. She wouldn't give her food to the mice either if it was truly poisoned she did not want their deaths on her shoulders.
She did not eat any of the food but she drank the blood looking liquid. It tasted great and made her feel like she was in heaven. Now her body did not hurt anymore and she could see her family laughing and singing together.

"You did WHAT!?" Dominic roared. He couldn't believe what his gamma had done. If it were not their fathers being brothers, he would be six feet underground by now.

"The peculiar human is too thin and if you are not going to kill her, what harm could a slice of meat and glass of red wine do."
"She is a prisoner."
"A prisoner with a mouse as a best friend. You should just kill her or let her g-" Caspian never got the chance to finish that sentence. The King snapped his neck.
"You should know better than test my boundaries"
That's when the Royal Beta walked inside. "What have you done, my King?"
"Taught him a lesson."
"I have come to inform you that the human has turned into a lunatic." After saying that Dominic and Cato started walking towards the cell that held the girl who was causing a scene.

"Y-you don't scare me, Mister." Hiccup. "I have been dealing with you since-" Maeve breathed out "t-the day I was born" Maeve giggled. She has never felt this good. This feeling is something she couldn't explain. "I have been s-scared of you but not anymore Mister D. I have had enough of you and now DIEEEEWEWEE!" She screamed towards a wall.
A wall that was empty.
"Y-yeah yo-you can say whatever you want but I ain't scared of you anymore D-" That's when a loud voice interrupted her. "WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE?"
"W-w-we d-don't know s-sir, she h-have been doing t-this a while n-now."
"You are a meanie, a big bad meanie that lurks new victims." Everyone paled at her words. Not that they were scared of Maeve but of what would follow the words. No one has never said a bad word about him and now a little human girl said the things no one of them has guts to say.
"What did you say?" Dominic didn't raise his voice. His gray eyes were reflecting an unknown emotion.
"F-finally you speak! Y-you h-have bullied me my entire life, but now it's over Mister D-" Maeve started to kick and punch the wall. Her back was towards the bars of her cell. "Oh how much I miss you, Will. You, my d-dearest have always saved me from him and now he took y-you. SHAME ON YOU MISTER SHAME ON YOU!" Now she was screaming as tears wet her cheeks. Her red nose stood out even from the darkness.
"S-sir what do you want us to do?" One of the men outside the cell asked.
"Leave."
"A-are you sure? She is-."
"LEAVE."
After that, even the mice left the cell in a hurry.
"Mother, why did you leave me too? Why did you leave me all alone?"
The King stared at the girl, his mate. There was no doubt that she was drunk. Apparently, the wine his gamma gave her was too strong for a human. A petite girl of all.
He should kill her. Torture her. Burn her body to ashes. Feed the ashes to crows. But there was something stopping him, his beast.
"Dar-darkness go away. Leave me alone." Maeve sobbed. She was a broken soul.
"Dominic" A voice interrupted her sobbing. "Don't do it." That voice was familiar but Maeve could not connect it to anyone.
"Don't call me by that." The King standing outside Maeve's cell was a huge surprise to her. When did he come, she wondered.
The voice belonged to Caspian. Now she remembered him. He was the friendly man who talked to her in this morning.
A giggle escaped her lips. They looked funny together.
Maeve only saw Caspian for a few seconds before the King attacked and snapped his neck for the second time in an hour. "It doesn't matter that you are my cousin and gamma anymore." He said before a loud crack was heard.
That's when Maeve started to scream. Her eyes widened as she stared at the corpse on the ground.
"You k-killed him! You are a monster!" She didn't know where she got the strength to say that.
"I know." After saying that the King barked inside the cell and wrapped his hands around her throat.
Maeve didn't even first realize what happened. First, she was screaming to him and the next thing she realized was her face is turning purple.
"It does not matter what you are because you will never again speak to me like that." After that, he dropped her and disappeared into the darkness.
When Maeve hit the ground all she saw was black as she passed out.

Re-Ordaining of the Chosen
Alea cheerfully hummed as she descended the steps, brimming in upbeat while her colleague, Quarren Leos, shot her a look of skepticism. “So… were you right about him?” he asked doubtfully. She came to a stop for a moment, her humming falling silent before she shook her head, waving her medium length light-blonde hair from side to side. “I was wrong about him.” Quarren raised an eyebrow in confusion at the convoluted response.“But you seem quite happy?” he asked again. “Because I am. But I was wrong about him. He was… so much more than I ever expected.” Alea looked at the sky overhead with a smile. “That boy… no, that man, is amazing. I firmly believe he will come to stand on top of any adversary he faces. He is destined. He is Chosen.” Quarren snorted as he stepped past, shaking his head. “Okay. Each to their own beliefs but you’re sounding like a nutjob. That skinny twig? Everyone calls him a cripple, you know,” he shook his head.“Rumours are always false, Leos,” Alea answered with a disapproving shake of her head. “You wouldn’t know. He is so, so much more.” “I saw him with my own two eyes. I didn’t see anything redeeming,” Quarren rebutted. “Well…” Alea chuckled. “You haven’t seen what I’ve seen.” In the year 917 of the Imperial Calendar, the Great War had just ended between dozens of nations. Farrien welcomed home millions of troops and warriors with the Archdukes of Aerianne and Kanaria leading them at the forefront. All were ecstatic when the current generation of the two Archduchy's, after the war, agreed to let their children wed. The excitement was short-lived however when the Aerianne Princess proved to be a dragoness among men but the Kanarian Prince was worse than even mediocre. The Prince disappeared and the wedding was shortly forgotten as society lived on. Until one day the Young Heir of Kanaria returned to Farrien a changed man, bringing demise with him. Follow the story of the Chosen ordained by the Goddess of Time as he returns to the past to right his wrongs and set things back straight again!
