《THE CUNNING VIGILANTE》44. Going In The Palace

The galloping horses trampled the sandy road, horses neighed under the broad daylight. Delun and Li Jie rode on the same white stallion, followed by Lim Hao at the back riding his black stallion. Min Zhe guarded the wounded Li Wei in the infirmary so he couldn't come with them. Hui Hua treated his patient with care and security together with the fourth positioned guard sighing frequently. Hui Hua scrunched his nose and turned himself to Min Zhe.
"Can you just help me treat this child's wounds than sighing in the corner like an old man?" Hui Hua asked sternly as Min Zhe looked at him disdainfully.
"You're a doctor. You treat him."
"You're a heartless bastard! Don't you care that he might die? I only had two hands and feet! You think I'm an octopus!? I don't have eight tentacles! If he dies, you're brother might hate you for life! You don't care at all! Young Madame might hate you! Hey!"
"Shut it! I got it okay!? Geez, you're so noisy!" Min Zhe shouted at the nagging doctor and huffed angrily.
"Wait here! I'm going to get my brother Jiang."
His brother Jiang Hua was an excellent doctor. He might be a great help for them to treat Li Wei's wounds. He rode on the black horse and rushed to his brother's clinic. He just hope that his brother didn't go anywhere to avoid complications.

The trio arrived at the palace for 2 hours and the bumpy journey made Li Jie's bum cramped. He his waist ache and silently endured it for hours. He finally sighed in relief as they arrived in the palace.
The palace was full of soldiers, indicating that the troupes that were assigned in the border were safely returned to the Shaanxi palace.
Delun carefully held his wife's waist and put him down gently, while Lim Hao on the back felt like vomiting upon witnessing such scene. Instead, he treated the two as if they were dogs spreading love in public. He merely wished he could knocked the General's head for his shamelessness.
As they went through, the guards were in positions and dare not to move. Jiao-long, who didn't asked for the General's permission to leave bowed his head and sighed hoping that the General won't kill him.
'This is for the safety of the Young Madame. Young Madame is more important than him.' He thought as he avoided the General's encounter. However, he didn't expect that he would see the Young Madame in the palace. He was happy about it, but seeing the General beside him made him felt sour. His smile gradually faded and looked away, but the General eyed him and made contact with each other. Jiao-long was startled and inwardly scoffed, he bowed his head slightly as a way of giving respect to him.

Delun furrowed his brows when he saw that guard smiling at his wife. He immediately got cautious and pulled Li Jie beside him. As the two made contact, Delun could see that Jiao-long was startled and slightly bowed his head as if his disappearance didn't mean anything to him at all. He didn't even bother to tell Delun about it.
Li jie, who was unaware of Delun's thoughts, looked at him and asked, "Is there something wrong?"
Delun answered and held his hand, "Nothing, I'm just happy being with you."
Delun smiled, Li Jie could feel his heart beats faster every second as he saw Delun's smile.
Lim Hao, on the other hand, cleared his throat and spoke, "You two have no conscience! Look around you! They were terrified!"
Li Jie looked around and saw the stoned guards looking at them. Well, it's more like staring at Delun's smile. It felt like they saw something horror as they stared at him. The guards quickly recovered their thoughts and looked away when they saw Delun throwing deathly glares at them.
After that, Delun turned to Lim Hao and said, "Then go find yourself a wife. Don't be like a sour grape all the time."
"Well, I already found one." Lim Hao grinned as Li Jie and Delun looked at him. The two wondered who caught his attention, but they both shrugged and went into business. Lim Hao felt like beating someone up.

In the meeting room, Chen Guang, Zhang Wei, Chun Fai, and His Majesty circled on the round table, sitting beside it. They waited Delun to come and to have updates in the manor. Chen Guang was internally anxious if something happened to his sons. But outside, he was as calm as a wooden breeze.
His Majesty sipped his tea when a servant from outside yelled, "The General has arrived!"
The two guards guarding the door opened it for the General. The General clasped his hands and bowed his head slightly, "Greetings to Your Majesty."
"Rise your head and sit." Delun followed and sat in the chair.
"So, I would like to hear your news so fast. Chen Guang, about the situation near the border? Is the situation going well?" His Majesty asked calmly as he sipped his tea.
"Reporting to Your Majesty, we have captured the bandits that caused ruckus on the border and interrogated them. They said that they were being paid by Minister Liu to cause ruckus on the border and to spread bad rumors about the Royal family. We have built the stable situation before we left, so we arrived late ahead of time. Pardon me for my tardiness, Your Majesty." Chen Guang pardoned as the Emperor ushered him that it was okay.

"Zhang Wei?"
"Reporting to Your Majesty, I found out the transaction of the supposed wealth of the palace, as the seal was carved with two dragons as the symbol of the nation. It was transacted by foreigners as a trade. With the help of my people, I managed to get the wealth that was supposed to be traded out with the foreigners in their lair last night. I supposed that Minister Liu must be panicking now Your Majesty." Zhang Wei said as he slightly bowed his head and hands clasped to each other.
The Emperor sighed in satisfaction and turned his gaze with Delun. He was concerned of what really happened in the manor so he brought guards home to support the General in case there was an intruder in the house.
"Reporting to Your Majesty. Indeed, there was an ambush happened in my humble manor. My wife was nearly wounded if I didn't come in time." Delun furrowed his brows and clenched his fist. Chen Guang did the same. If something happened to that child, Chen Guang might not forgive himself if it really happened.
"It was because of one thing, and I supposed Minister Chen Guang and Your Majesty might knew about the reason. It was the key of the sacred treasury."
"The key? So it was in your family all along?" The Emperor asked with concern as he saw Delun grabbed something inside his pocket and a shiny, jade pendant lying on the palm of his hand.
"This is the key that my wife found in the room of the former General in the state. Li Jie found it in one of General Wenyan's hidden storage inside his room. Someone also spied on him on the same day. It seems like someone might want to steal the treasure hidden there and used it for their greed. My people would've died as they faced such great chaos if His Majesty didn't bring guards with me. I must thank His Majesty for that." Delun kowtowed and the Emperor ushered him to sit still.
"This treasury I assumed is the biggest treasury in the state. However, we don't have the map to find it." His Majesty sighed as his head ache about the situation.
"Your Majesty, if I recall, I got the map on my hands." Chun Fai said calmly. His Majesty widened his eyes in surprise and said, "Why is it in you?"
"Your Majesty, one of my men who spied in Minister Liu's domain heard their conversation. I sent my men to inspect their situations and as what you have guessed, he really was panicking. I heard the term, 'sacred treasury' and made me think about this topic again. After they dismissed, they left the map sprawled on the table so one of my men took it and brought it with him." Chun Fai explained and the people around the room looked at him.
"Wow." Chen Guang praised Chun Fai for his unexpected words and cleared his throat. Chun Fai sighed and said, "I will bring that map tomorrow and had you all investigate it. And also, General Feng..."
Chun Fai paused and looked at Delun.
"They also mentioned that Li Jie is part of his plan."
"WHAT?!" Both Delun and Chen Guang stood up.
"Please calm down both of you." The emperor ordered the two and collected their sanity. The two glanced at each other and Chen Guang snickered. Delun also thought that this old man was quite an antagonist towards him but he shrugged it off. The two then sat on their chairs.
"I want all that were connected to your wife must stay in my manor and let the Empress take care of them."
"B-but.." I can't bear to separate from my wife!
The Emperor wanted to protest but Chun Fai said, "I'm his father."
The Emperor was defeated that easily.

The yuri/GL Is an extremely slow burn one and the focus is more on the relationship dynamics than romance. =====Author Notes===== This is my first writing attempt, and in the spirit of full disclosure, I am not a native English speaker and I am hoping to use this chance to improve my writing. Constructive criticisms are always welcome. I have a full-time job but I would try to keep the releases consistent.
