《Brother of Wind {book 4: The Tournament of Elements}》chapter 3

Every elemental master was at the front of the decks, watching the island as they approached.
"Look at that." Cole said pointing time a temple just by the bay.
"Awesome." Kai said.
"Let me see." Karlof said pushing Kai aside.
"Do you mind?!" Kai yelled. The two got into another fighting stance but were stopped by the chants of people in red hoods practicing their fighting forms.
"Welcome to Chen's island." Clouse said walking off the ferry.
"The Tournament of Elements welcomes its brave fighters. Master Chen will be pleased you've returned, Sensei Garmadon." He said as Lloyd's father walked off the boat.
"The pleasure is all mine, Clouse." Garmadon said.
"I'm sure it is." Clouse walked off.
"Definitely feeling some tension between you two." Jay said.
"Yeah, and how is it we're on an island I've never seen on any map?" Kai asked.
"And care to explain how the face to Ninjago's most popular noodle house is secretly assembling an underground fighting tournament?" Cole added.
"Master Chen used to be a friend. Now he's a traitor." Garmadon said.
"During the Serpentine Wars, Chen turned against his own kind and sided with the treacherous snakes."
"The battle you and Uncle Wu fought together in? He was an enemy?" Lloyd asked.
"He used deception to divide the Elemental Masters. We barely defeated the Serpentine, and in a deal for his surrender, Chen was to never leave this island. Little did we know, he'd begin to build his criminal empire from here." Garmadon said.
"Chen may have divided our ancestors, but he's not gonna divide us." Lloyd said. They walked up the steps to the temple when Kai looked back. He saw the girl again. Kai stepped in front of the group, stopping them and making room for the girl to walk.
"Uh... Ladies first." Kai said as she walked by.
"Fire will melt her icy heart. Just wait." Kai smirked.
"Kai, I'm so close to hitting you right now." Morro said.
The ninja moved forwards to the group of fighters as Clouse opened the grand door.
"This is a big island. Zane could be anywhere. Keep an eye out." Cole said.
The fighters moved through the court yard as more men in red clothing played on taiko drums.
"So this is the house that noodles built. Ha! Always wanted to go to a red carpet event." Jay laughed.
"Chen lives like a king. Here, he's totally self-sufficient. The only way on or off this island is with his permission, which you have to earn." Garmadon explained.
The ninja gazed at the large temple in front of them. A large Japanese style building. Morro looked up and saw something shine from the roof. He took note.
"You never told me about this place. And neither did you!" Lloyd pointed at Morro.
"How come you never tell us anything?" Cole looked at Morro.
"Well, you never ask me." Morro replied.
"All in favor of asking Morro the questions from now on?" Jay asked the others.
"How do you know so much about this island, dad?" Lloyd asked.
"Because before Chen was my enemy, he was my Sensei." Garmadon pulled back some of his clothing and revealed a purple anacondrai tattoo on his left shoulder.
The fighters had gathered in the main hall and sat along the side in almost a circle.
"You never told me you had a Sensei." Lloyd said sitting next to his father.
"When I was your age, I sought a darker means of guidance." Garmadon said.

"He taught me to win at all cost, no matter who I hurt. It wasn't until you saved me that I saw the light."
"Uh, apparently he also never taught you to have a sense of humor. Lighten up, we're in an underground fight club. This is supposed to be fun." Jay nudged Garmadon.
A gong crashed and music started to play.
"All rise for Master Chen." Clouse announced. A chair was lowered down to the ground by some rope with Chen sitting on it. The elemental masters stood up.
"Welcome to the Tournament of Elements." Chen exclaimed.
"Now everyone can all die-"
Everyone gasped as the large doors slammed shut.
"—rect your attention to me!" Chen laughed.
"I forgot to mention he has a penchant for theatrics." Garmadon whispered to Lloyd as everyone sat down.
"Never before have so many Elemental Fighters been under one roof." Chen got up from his chair.
"I see Master of fire, earth, shadow, Speed, even a prophesied Green Savior. A master of wind here too." Chen walked by the masters.
"And a former pupil has returned." Chen looked at Garmadon. The sensei glared back.
"This symbol before you is for the Anacondrai, fiercest Serpentine warrior to ever roam this land. Its creed: Only one can remain." Chen said menacingly. The gong sounded off and split to reveal a board.
"Good. Looks like we're each in out own brackets." Kai said relived.
"We won't have to face each other for a while."
"Better find Zane before that happens." Lloyd said.
"Behold, a Jadeblade." Chen announced as Clouse pulled out a jade green blade in the shape of a dragon head.
"Here, it represents life. Obtain it, move on. Allow your opponent to take it, loser. The rules are simple. Every match will be different. No two fights will be the same. Your powers will keep you in the Tournament. Use it or lose it." Chen said.
"Hm, what does Karlof win?"
Chen turned to the master of metal.
"Win and stay on the island. Win it all, and you'll receive fortunes beyond your wildest dreams, and lifetime supply of Master Chen noodles." Chen exclaimed.
"But no one is here because of noodle. You want the glory of being the greatest fighter in all of Ninjago!"
Everyone cheered except for the ninja.
"And what happens if they lose?" Garmadon asked.
"Lose? Who here likes to lose?" Chen asked. Everyone but the ninja laughed.
"Now please, enjoy my island. It's a super fun happy place. Hahaha. Fun time on me." Chen laughed.
"You'll now each be shown to your rooms." Clouse clapped twice and multiple women dressed in kimonos and gacha makeup came in as the elemental masters stood up.
"Ah, just what this place needs. Creepy clowns." Jay scoffed.
"Not clowns. Kabuki, Chen's jesters." Garmadon said.
The kabuki grabbed the wrist of everyone except for Garmadon.
"Yeah, well, whatever they are, I don't like them." Cole said wincing from their tight grip.
"So much for staying together."
Soon enough, everyone was son separate levels of the temple.
"Always be ready. Never lose focus." Garmadon said trying to reach the ninja.
"What? Uh, what did he say?" Kai asked.
"I don't know. Something about, uh, mucus?" Jay yelled.
"Your Fire suite, Master Kai." The kabuki escorting Kai opened a door to reveal a doom decked out in red.
"Are you kidding me? Ha! Fire!" He ran in to admire the luxurious bed with a tapestry above.

"Woah." He said. Kai found a picture of himself on the wall.
"So handsome!" He said like a narcissist.
Kai opened the doors to the balcony and walked out.
"I could get used to this." He looked yo his left to see the girl again. Her hood was off and she had bright red hair tied back in a ponytail. Kai smiled. This was his chance! The girls slowly turned her head to look out at the sights.
"Ah, looks like we're neighbors. I'm Kai, Master of Fire." Kai said as he lit his hand up with flames.
"Skylor, Master of...wouldn't you like to know?" She smirked. Kai looked to his hand. He lost focuse and the fire actually started to burn his hand.
"Ow, ow, ow, ow!" He yelled as Skylor giggled.
Jay stared at his suite with his mouth hanging open. The whole thing was blue with lightning patterns.
"Every device within your room has been configured to interact with your own electrical signal." The kabuki said as she closed the door.
Jay sparked his hand a little and a large TV screen rose up.
"WOOHOOO!!" Jay yelled. A gaming console rose up with a controller and Jay started to play a game.
"Argh.. Uh.. A stone bed?" Cole exclaimed trying to find a good spot.
"Come on." He complained. Cole lifted himself up as his head hit a lamp on the wall. A door opened to reveal a whole pantry full of food.
"Chen's Noodle House? Three ingredient sizzling rice, snow pea cuttlefish, mu shu wu shu? Haha!" Cole grabbed a bowl of noddled and started to eat.
"Cake? Hah! Score!" Cole yelled.
Morro stared at the large room he was in. It was sage green and decorated with a few little potted plants. Morro's bed was strangely hanging from the ceiling from four metal rods.
"Okay, that's unusual." He said as he jumped up with his wind to land on it.
Morro walked out to the balcony and looked up. He smirked. Walking back in he found a shelf with multiple scrolls.
"Okay." Morro said grabbing one to read.
Lloyd stood in front of a mirror as he sported a new gi that had a black sash across it from his shoulder, and no sleeves.
"Yeah, this is sweet." He snickered. Lloyd saw a picture of all the ninja together.
"Don't worry. We're gonna find you, pal." Lloyd said eyeing Zane.
Clouse pushed Garmadon out of the temple and into the courtyard.
"Since you weren't invited by Master Chen, I'm sorry to say there's no room for you." Clouse said.
"Fine, I'll just stand guard. I wouldn't want anything to happen to them. I know how you like to use Dark Magic." Garmadon crossed his arms.
"Now, why would I want to cheat the Ninja?" Clouse asked slamming the door.
A horn went off and an announcement rang. Garmadon ran to the side and jumped on the wall to climb his way back in.
"Fellow fighters, hidden around my island are enough Jadeblades for every participant except for one." Chen said over the announcements.
"The one who returns to the palace arena empty-handed loses."
Morro set down his scroll and smiled, grabbing a small metal cylinder.
"The tournament begins...now!"
"Now?" Jay asked relaxing in a hot bath. He looked to his side to see Bolobo, the master of nature swing the doors open.
"Aah! This room could use a breath of fresh air. Lightning, meet Nature!" Blolobo shouted. Green vines started to sprout all over Jay's room and the ninja jumped up and grabbed a towel to wrap around himself.
Jay used his lightning to push Bolobo out of the bathroom and into the large open space. Both of them looked up to see a jadeblade in the light of the room. Bolobo wrapped his vines across the doorway to stop Jay from getting it.
Lloyd exited his room to see other standing outside.
"May the best fighter win." Chen laughed.
Kai and Skylor looked up. There was a shinning green blade on the roof.
"Is that...?" Skylor asked.
"A jadeblade?" Kai finished.
Lloyd looked to his left to see a sword display with one of the swords being a jadeblade. The master of sound, light, and gravity raced to obtain it. As they all fell on eachother Lloyd ran down the hall. In doing so, he got tripped by the master of smoke. Lloyd trued to kick him away, but he disappeared into smoke then reappeared behind Lloyd, striking him down.
Morro ran outside to his balcony and jumped up to the roof with his wind. There, he saw the jadeblade he spotted from the beginning. He also saw the master of poison. Morro extended the cylinder into a staff.
"Don't think that's allowed. No weapons." Toxita said. Morro extended it further into a glider.
"Not a weapon." Morro threw it at Tox. It flew past her poetry quickly but Tox just dodged it.
"Haha. What was that?" Tox laughed looking at it fly behind her.
"You missed-- Aah!" She yelled.
Morro ran forwards and slid on the roof, knocking Tox off her feet as she was distracted by the glider. As he did, Morro grabbed the jadeblade in his hand.
"Don't think I did." Morro smirked running after his glider. Tox got up quickly and chased after him but Morro jumped off the roof, grabbing onto his glider and escaping with the jadeblade.
Kai and Skylor paused.
"That one is..." Skylor got up and jumped to Kai's balcony.
"Mine!!" He yelled, pushing Kai down. She then jumped up to another balcony to start climbing.
"Hey!" Kai yelled. He jumped up to the same placd she was.
"Stop!" Skylor grabbed Kai's arm.
"You stop!" Kai yelled and pushed her away. Skylor's grip let go and Kai caught her by her ankle.
"Help me!" She cried.
Kai swung her up and accidentally threw her to the jadeblade.
"Sorry, hot tamale." Skylor smiled while holding the jadeblade.
Kai looked down and saw a familiar opponent. Karlof, the master of metal.
Cole slowly walked out of his room to see almost everyone fighting over one jadeblade.
"Oh, I can't fight on a full stomach." Cole looked down and saw a little potted plant that had a jadeblade sticking out.
"All right!" Cole exclaimed.
Griffin Turner saw Cole walking towards it and zommed to reach the blade first. Just as Cole reached it, Turner jumped in and stole it away.
"Haha! Too slow, rocky boy!" He laughed.
"Hey!" Cole shouted.
Jay was being held down by many of Bolobo's vines. The ninja looked to his side and grabbed his controller that made the TV screen start to play starferrer.
As Bolobo was distracted, Jay rolled away and took his towel. He wrapped it up and used it as a whip to to make Bolobo drop the jadeblade and Jay take it instead.
"Haha! I love my room!" Jay exclaimed.
Lloyd had successfully fought off everyone and ran to get the jadeblade. Just as he reached it, Clouse started to recite a spell that made the carpet design grab ahold of Lloyd.
"Wha- hey!" Lloyd yelled.
Garmadon made his way inside the temple and saw Clouse doing magic as Lloyd reached for a jadeblade. Garmadon ran up and tackled Clouse making him drop his spell.
"Hurry, Lloyd. You must not lose." Garmadon said.
Lloyd pushed the master of mind off of him and grabbed the jadeblade. Cole threw three elemental masters off of him.
"It's mine!-- ohh." Cole grabbed his stomach as it ached.
"Stomach cramp!" Cole yelled.
The master of light disappeared and grabbed the jadeblade right in front of Cole.
"Hey, stop! Stupid blade!" Cole ran after it. He got punched as the master got away. Cole looked to see the pillars connecting the upper floor and punched it, making dust fall and reveal the master of light's position.
"Hahaha. Ninja-go!!" He yelled using spinjitzu and taking the blade.
"Okay, that was too fast." Cole gagged. This man could not get a break as the master of gravity stole the blade from the ceiling.
"Hey! That's mine!" Cole exclaimed. Thankfully, Cole spotted one under a bench and ran to get it.
"Yes!"
Jay ran in the room alongside Jay and a few others. There, they found a few masters inside already including Morro.
"How'd you get here so fast?" Lloyd asked, handing over his jadeblade.
"Made a quick escape." Morro replied smiling. He showed Lloyd and Jay his retracted glider in his hand.
"I thought no weapons." Jay said.
"Didn't use it like one." Morro replied.
More elemental masters burst in the room.
"It's pretty fun, fighting like this." Morro said. Jay and Lloyd looked at each other, a little confused.
"Two Jadeblades remaining." Clouse placed all the nadeblades on a stand
"Wait! I got one!" Cole ran in the room.
"Cole! Whoo-hoo! You made it." Jay exclaimed.
"Where's Kai?" Cole asked handing over his jadeblade.
"Only one Jadeblade remaining." Chen spoke.
Kai and Karlor stood as a jadeblade was in front of both of them. Kai lit his hand on fire and Karlof created his metal protection.
"Get on with it!!" Chen's voice exclaimed through the announcement.
Karlof ran at Kai, punching him back. Kai blasted his fire in return, pushing Karlof away and the jadeblade in the air, ready for anyone to take.

Basil von Doom is one such dungeon keeper working for the Guild, leading an army of loyal minions from one conquest to the next; burning civilizations and sifting through the ruins in search of forbidden knowledge that the races of kith were never meant to possess. But having spent more than half a century in pursuit of glory and fame—trying to live up to the legacy of his father—Basil has grown indifferent towards his work. Desperate for a worthy challenge, but bound by his duties as a dungeon keeper, he has turned his mind towards uncovering the ultimate fate of the previous master of his house and the secrets that were buried with him.
