《Secrets in the Moonlight (Lloyd Garmadon x reader)》Thirteen

I didn't even notice the symbol until Harumi let out a yell behind me. I stared at the Sons of Garmadon symbol, blinking as my arm fell. I felt frozen as I studied the paint- though it was beginning to wear away. The smile on Garmadon's face sent chills up my spine as I stepped away, only to run into Lloyd.
"The Sons of Garmadon insignia." Lloyd breathed out as he looked at it with me.
"What's it doing all the way out here, though?" I asked as I studied what the symbol was painted on. It was a boat, a small one, but no one was with it. Odd, considering if this did belong to the Sons of Garmadon, it wouldn't make sense for them to abandon it in the middle of Primeval's Eye. Lloyd gave a shrug to my question, then walked towards the boat. I watched as he lifted himself up over the side. Once he was standing, he turned back to me, holding out a hand. I quickly took it, murmuring my thanks once my feet touched the wood of the boat.
"Is anyone there?" Harumi questioned, her voice pitched in hesitance as she watched Lloyd and me. I peeked around the small space, shaking my head.
"No one. It looks like it's abandoned. I just can't figure out why." I replied. My answer seemed to be enough for Harumi to let Lloyd help her onto the boat as I walked into the small hutch. Cob webs were everywhere, as well as a heavy layering of dust. I walked towards the table in here, brushing the dust off. Underneath was the same map Lloyd had in his hold. I frowned at it, tracing my finger over the different lines.
"The same map?" Lloyd murmured. I nodded, confused by it. The pieces were beginning to come together for why the Sons of Garmadon had a boat out here, but not why they had left it. With how adamant they've been on getting the other masks, it didn't make sense for them to suddenly stop trying to find this one.
"I thought no one knew where the Oni Temple was located." Harumi said as she looked over my other shoulder.
"So why are there two maps?" Lloyd asked, finishing off of Harumi's unsaid thoughts.
"The Quiet One must've sent an expedition before all of this, judging by the looks of the boat. I just can't figure out what they ran into that made them stop. What happened to them?" I told them, squinting at this map.
"Maybe we'll have better luck." Harumi spoke as she lifted a set of keys from the corner of the table.
"One would hope so." I replied, gently taking the keys from her and heading to the wheel of the boat. I inserted them into the ignition, then turned the key. The engine turned over, only sputtering for a moment before it came to life. The boat jumped forward, and Harumi let out a laugh of surprise from behind me. I smiled, grabbing onto the wheel.
"I'm beginning to think we are good luck together." Lloyd said from beside me. I scoffed.
"I don't know Greenie, we did almost die at least three times to get to this point." I shot back. Lloyd shook his head, nudging my shoulder before he bent down, grabbing a makeshift depth measuring stick.
"I'll help direct you." Lloyd informed me, then he moved to the front of the boat. I watched as he put the stick into the water. For a moment he said nothing as I kept the boat steady, staying towards the center of the river. Harumi sat down beside the wheel, not saying much as Lloyd began directing me where to go. Soon, we came to a more slow and shaded part of the river.

"Five feet. That's okay." Lloyd said to himself as we puttered along. "A little left. More rocks." I gently turned the wheel as he directed. "Not too fast. It's pretty shallow around here." I huffed, shaking my head as I waited for his next direction. "That's good. Keep her steady." Lloyd praised and I smiled.
"Do you really think it's really possible to bring someone back?" Harumi suddenly asked. My smile dropped as I glanced down to her, though she wasn't looking to me. Her eyes were on Lloyd.
"I've seen a lot of things in my lifetime. At first, I didn't. Now, I'm not so sure." Lloyd answered, only turning to look back on us briefly.
"Does any part of you want to see your father again?" Harumi pushed further. Despite the difference in tone, it reminded me of our argument yesterday. The feeling made me feel sick, and I could even see Lloyd tense from here. I didn't understand where this question came from, either. It seemed almost as out of place as our argument had been.
"I had Ninjago's greatest villain as my dad. It was an... unusual relationship." Lloyd finally began to answer after a moment of silence. "But as much as we fought... I still miss him." Lloyd went quiet again. "A little to the right." Lloyd directed, and I almost missed it in the sudden change in tone. I complied with what he said, watching him as he turned back to the water.
"I would do anything to see my parents again." Harumi admitted. She played with her fingers as she waited for one of us to say something.
"I don't blame you. But if they bring my father back... the thing that scares me the most is..." Lloyd trailed off, slowly shaking his head.
"He won't be the man you recognize?" I suggested, breaking the silence. Lloyd looked back at me, a sad look on his face. He nodded at me, frown deepening as he did so.
"He wasn't the greatest villain." Harumi spoke up again. I glanced down to her, confused by that statement. He had been for me, until he was cured at least. And even then, talk of Lord Garmadon didn't cease despite the fact that his evil did.
"Oh, no? You probably grew up thinking it's Morro or The Devourer." Lloyd started listing different villains that had rose up within the last few years alone. "Don't tell me. Pythor." Lloyd pointed back with a smirk. I smiled at his behavior, feeling amused by how quick he thought he was right.
"No. It's the one you never even knew was there in the first place, the one that gets away." Harumi told him, her voice serious despite Lloyd's previous effort to lighten the mood. His smile fell at her words, as did mine.
"The Quiet One." Lloyd said, his voice soft. The name made something twist in my gut. Every other time someone had brought up the name, but this time, as Lloyd said it, there was a scratch in my memory. Something told me I should know the nickname, who it belonged to, but I was coming up with blanks. I couldn't remember what I would know it from, if anything at all.
In front of Harumi and me, Lloyd was muttering about the rocks, still affirming to us there were none. The sun was right above us, shining brightly as Harumi began singing the old lullaby Hutchins sang to us as kids. I began to hum along, only pausing when Lloyd would direct me on moving the boat a certain way. Other than that, the world around the three of us was quiet.

"Stop the boat." Lloyd suddenly commanded, and I quickly pulled the lever to stop the acceleration. "There's definitely rocks in the water." He informed us as he pushed down with the stick. "We need to find another- What the heck?" Lloyd exclaimed as the stick was torn from his grip, then was pulled away and down the river until it suddenly went below water.
"I don't think that's a rock, Lloyd." I said, staring at where the stick had disappeared.
"Yeah, we're not alone." He agreed.
"That's not very comforting." I admitted. Something hit the boat's underside, tilting all of us and making Lloyd fall onto his back. I held onto the wheel, willing that I wouldn't fall too. Harumi held onto the side of the wheel, shaking her head in panic.
"What-What's that?" Harumi questioned, looking to me.
"I'm thinking what the earlier expedition ran into." Lloyd answered as he pushed himself to sit up. "Start the engine. Go, go." Lloyd instructed. Something surfaced from the water behind him, then dove back under again. It was quick, but enough for me to pause with my hand on the lever. "Hurry." Lloyd cried as he scrambled onto his feet. I pushed the lever forward, and the boat roared back to life. The boat shot forward, and I didn't even try to care about what rocks might be under the water. I only turned when I saw them above the surface, though I grimaced as the boat hit a few bumps in the water. It was hard to tell, though, if it was the creature messing with us, or rocks scraping the underside.
Lloyd ran passed me, going to the back of the ship. Harumi quickly pushed up to stand, then followed after him. I bit back my curiosity, keeping my eyes forward so we wouldn't crash, especially with whatever was on our tail.
"What is that in the water?" I heard Harumi ask. I wanted to point out she was one of the people looking at it, but I bit back my words as Lloyd answered.
"Whatever it is, it's gaining on us. Is this as fast it can go?" I huffed at his question, swiftly turning the boat around one of the curves.
"Gee, Lloyd. You know what, no, it's not. I thought half the speed would be sufficient enough to get away from a monster that will definitely eat us." I heard Lloyd scoff at my reply.
"A simple yes wouldn't sufficed. Harumi, help me lighten the load." Harumi let out a scream, then something hit the boat, making it rock. I heard the splashes of objects being thrown follow that, and I could only hope that would work.
"You know my offer of getting rid of the weight of my family trauma still stands." I called, and this time Lloyd didn't reply to me as he ran by again to look over the front of the boat.
"Lloyd, what are you-" Something shot up out of the water, taking part of the front of the boat off and throwing Lloyd back. I fell from the wheel and stumbled back into the small doorway behind me. There, I ran into Harumi, who screamed as the boat shook.
"What do we do?" Harumi cried out, but before either of us could answer, the back of the boat tilted back, and the boat violently rocked. Harumi fell into my side and I held onto the edge of the doorway to prevent us both from falling. After the boat settled, everything seem calm. I breathed out a sigh, hoping that was enough satisfaction for the monster.
A claw drug up from under the water's surface, quickly turning my mindset around. Of course it wouldn't be enough for the monster. Of course, everything wants to kill us on this trip.
I cursed under my breath as water pooled onto the boat as the claw swiped towards us. Lloyd jumped up, his sword in hand, and he swung it forward to meet the claw. I watched in horror as the sword broke in half on impact, leaving only the hilt in Lloyd's grip. I shared a look with him, watching as his face fell in shock.
"Shit." I said for the both of us. Harumi's scream made me look back again, as a giant crab creature emerged from the water. Now I could see that the stick we used earlier was still within its grip. Just as quick as the monster came, though, it dove back into the water, swimming away.
"Why did it stop?" Harumi questioned. I gave a feeble shrug.
"I'm not sure, but I'm willing to bet it's not good." I replied, glancing around.
"It's like something kind of... scared him off." Lloyd added on and I nodded.
"Yeah. I was afraid you'd say that." I told him as I turned back to the wheel of the ship and grabbed onto it. I knew it was useless, though. The crab creature had taken off the motor when it hit the back of the ship.
"We have to get to shore." Lloyd said as the boat slowly spun in the water.
"The current's pulling us away." Harumi informed from where she kneeling and looking in the water.
"What current?" Lloyd pressed, holding onto the wood of the hutch.
"This keeps getting better and better." I muttered to myself as I pressed the lever back and forth, still getting no results. The ship hit something in the water, making it face forward again. Now, I could see what Harumi meant. The water was rushing together now, clumping against rocks and away from shore. There were also a lot more bigger rocks here too, and the ship kept turning and hitting them with the quick current.
"We need to go the other way." Lloyd told me as he looked back. I shook my head, shaking the lever still.
"Not happening." I replied, feeling panic rise in my chest now. If Lloyd was beginning to worry, then it wasn't something I wanted to be part of.
"Reverse. Reverse." Lloyd cried out as he started pulling up the rope. I yanked on the lever while staring at him, trying to emphasize to him how it wasn't working, but when I pulled the wood snapped in half. I stared at the handle of the lever as I lifted it, then I glanced to Lloyd with wide eyes.
"Well, now it's definitely not working." I said, dropping the broken lever to the floor.
"Grab on to something now." Lloyd instructed as he brought part of the rope over. I felt Harumi grab onto my arm and the wheel, almost stumbling as she did so. I turned my eyes forward as Lloyd came to my side. Now I could see the edge of the waterfall, and I understood why he was so panicked. I felt my breath catch in my throat as I stared at the edge, watching water tumble over. Lloyd siddled up to my side, quickly passing the other end of the rope to Harumi. She wrapped the end around the wheel, clenching the rest of it in her fist.
"Would this be a bad time to say I can't swim?" I admitted as I held onto the wheel. My knuckles had turned white as the pit in my stomach grew. Falling from the sky, chased by a dinosaur, almost eaten by a tree, but this is what would get me. Not knowing how to swim, which seemed so trivial compared to everything else. Yet, I was still afraid as I bit down on my lip. Lloyd wrapped an arm around me, keeping us huddled against the wheel.
"Hold on." Lloyd repeated, this time louder as the boat tipped over the edge. I shut my eyes as I felt myself fly over the wheel. Harumi's scream and Lloyd's yell could only leave me to believe the same was happening for them. I didn't even have the thought to scream as we fell. The wind whistled by, and I could barely open my eyes to see the fast approaching surface of water, then I hit it. A sting of shock ran through my body, leaving my skin tingling. For a moment, it felt like I couldn't breathe, or even move. I could feel myself beginning to sink until I slowly began to waft my hands in the water. My hands moved numbly, slowly regaining feeling as the skin prickled in the cold of the water. A subtle current pulled me along as I tried to push up to the surface.
Once I broke it, I coughed, trying to shove my hair out of my eyes while staying afloat. A few feet away, Harumi was already swimming to the shore. Lloyd glanced back at me once he surfaced, and he made his way to me as I began to sink down again.
"Okay, don't freak out." Lloyd told me, and before I could question him, he swam behind me and wrapped an arm around my chest. "Just relax." Lloyd murmured as he kicked his legs out, using his other arm to swim us back to shore. I tried to do as he said, staying still as I watched as the water ripple around us. It would've been more calming if I wasn't in the water or actually knew how to swim.
When we reached shore, Lloyd helped drag me onto land, then he collapsed to the ground. I copied his actions, too tired to move. Lloyd's wet gi stuck to my face as I closed my eyes.
"I told you, one more thing tries to kill me- and multiple things have since then- and I quit." I murmured, though the way Lloyd's chest lifted and fell with his sigh let me know he heard me clearly. I peeked my eyes open, looking to Harumi. She was already standing at the water's edge, trying to squeeze water from her clothes. A frown pulled at her features as she stared down at the water dripping between her fingers.
"You didn't even do the work." Lloyd huffed as he pushed himself to sit up. I moved my head to the ground, and despite the uncomfortable rock underneath me, I was content with laying here and forgetting anything else existed right now. Yeah. I could stay here after almost dying. Again. Maybe the other Ninja could find us and then this wouldn't keep happening.
"We made it." Lloyd breathed out, letting out a laugh of relief. I furrowed my brow at him.
"What do you mean?" I grumbled, looking at him from where I lay. Harumi walked closer to us, seeming to tower over me as she came to stand behind Lloyd.
"Yeah, barely." She added, but Lloyd shook his head, an excited smile filling his face as he pointed in front of us. I whined, not wanting to get up, but then Lloyd was pulling me up anyway so I sat beside him.
"I mean, we made it to the temple. Look." Lloyd grabbed my face, turning my head to look at a large opening to a cavern. It looked faintly like a face with sharp teeth, but I tried to ignore the thought as I let out my own sigh.
"Oh. Okay, then maybe I won't give up yet." I said and Lloyd sent me a smile.
"That's good to hear, Princess." He replied, then he stood, quickly helping me up as well.
"I told you to stop calling me Princess." I reminded. Lloyd sent me another cheeky smile.
"I'm well aware." He told me and I shook my head, though I felt my own smile form. I missed the way Harumi stared at us, then turned a glare to Lloyd as he began to lead the way to the temple.
The Ninja cheered as the Bounty started up again. Nya turned from the main screen, sending the others a smile. The ship shuddered as Zane set the thrusters to power up.
"Thrusters?" Nya asked, peeking over his shoulder.
"70 percent." Zane answered as he pressed different buttons. Nya turned, facing the main screen again.
"Systems?" She pushed further.
"She'll live. Get us in the air." Kai replied with proud smirk on his lips. Within seconds it fell, though. "Wait. What about Pixal?" Kai questioned in panic.
"I said it already. She can take care of herself." Nya told him, still smiling. With that, she turned her eyes to the screen in front of her. A text box appeared, pointing to different parts of the map.
"What's that?" Jay spoke up behind Nya. Nya's eyes scanned the screen, her smile slowly falling.
"The trace program the computer was running to find The Quiet One's location." Nya answered as the screen finally zoomed in on one location. The red dot there began blinking. Nya squinted her eyes at the spot, shaking her head slowly. Zane approached behind the two, listening in. Kai and Cole leaned in from the side. "It's finished, but that's odd. It says it originated from the Bounty." Nya breathed out in disbelief.
"But that- that can't be." Kai objected, his brows furrowing in.
"Yeah, that's impossible." Cole cried out in agreement with Kai.
"The only ones on the ship were us, Pixal, and..." Zane trailed off, concern taking over his features.
"Harumi's the Quiet One." Nya determined, anger taking over her features.
"Woah, woah, you can't jump to conclusions like that! (y/n) was here too. It could be either one, or even both of them." Kai reminded her, but Nya shook her head.
"No. It's Harumi. (y/n) came to Pixal and me about how weird Harumi was being, ignoring her too. (y/n) thought something was wrong and she was getting broken up about it. We both brushed it off, but she could've been onto something. I mean, they grew up together for years, of course if Harumi was different now she would notice, Harumi just had grief to blame it on." Nya said, suddenly feeling guilty for not taking (y/n)'s thoughts as serious.
