《Finding a Way | Adopted by Gerard Way》Less Than 20 Questions

Getting to meet Ray and Frank was not the problem here, oh no. It was... well the thought of eating pizza again made me feel sick. All that cheese, grease, the carbs. It was a treat, not something you're supposed to eat two days in a row. I don't know why I'm suddenly thinking this way. I never used to. Well, I kind of do know. But, it's not like I could object to the pizza. This was his house. He planned all this for me.
I just wanted to be healthier, and this was a bit of a roadblock, that's all. It's all gonna be okay, I remind myself. I'll get back on track after tomorrow.
For now, I need to focus on unpacking the little belongings I have. My stack of books goes neatly on the shelf, my clothes in the dresser, and... what's this? A bathroom? There's a bathroom attached to my room. Nice. So I unload my toiletries in the empty drawers. There's a full length mirror and a bath/shower combo.
I carefully take out my posters from my bag and hang them on my wall. Let me tell you, this was no easy task. I remember hanging them up for the first time... the hours it took to get them perfectly straight. Thankfully it didn't take hours this time.
The whole unpacking process would've taken a lot less time if it wasn't for the posters, but when I'm done I take a look around at my room. Despite what Gerard has already put in here it still looks kind of empty. I guess I have less stuff than I thought. I can't wait for my bookshelf to be completely full. I've been wanting to read this series I've been hearing a lot about recently, Harry Potter. That'll be the first series I'll add to my shelf if I can. Apparently they're making those books into movies, too.

I leave my room and go downstairs. I wander for only a short amount of time before I find the living room. It has the same darkish/arty aesthetic that I've seen throughout the rest of the house. I like it a lot, actually. Gerard is on the couch waiting for me.
"Where's Mikey?" I ask, immediately noticing the taller man's absence.
The tall man, really, Evelyn? Every man is tall compared to you.
"He went home a couple of minutes ago, he doesn't live very far. Neither do the other guys. So I guess it's just you and me now." He smiles, patting the spot on the couch next to him.
I take the seat next to him on the fake black leather couch.
"So, Evelyn. I wanna know more about you if that's alright. I saw your file, I know basics, but a piece of paper can't really tell me the real you, you know?"
"Wait, can I ask you something first?" I ask, suddenly remembering something I've been wondering about for a long time.
"Sure, anything." He nods, suddenly getting serious. I don't know where he thinks this is going, but I guess I'm glad that he'd take these conversations between him and I so seriously. It's a bit intimidating, to be honest.
"What do my records even look like? Like, how much do you know after reading them? They never did let me see them myself." Believe me, I asked Mrs. Miller to see them plenty of times, but she always told me that they weren't for my eyes, only her and potential parents.
"Well, it says who your biological parents are, it includes your birth certificate, medical records. Not the most interesting thing," He explains. Then jokingly, "Why? Is there something you didn't want me to see? You didn't kill anyone, did you, Evelyn?"

"Oh no... you didn't see the pile of bodies in my closet earlier, did you?" I laugh my best evil laugh. And then start coughing. "I could never be an evil villain."
"You don't really give off an evil vibe, to be honest."
"I know, I know. But my death stares are enough to scare anyone off. Don't provoke me." I smirk. "So, you want to know the real me? Ask away."
"Lets play 20 questions. Favourite song?"
I don't even have to think about this one for a second. "Easy, Life on Mars, David Bowie."
"Magnificent. Favourite band?"
"That's gotta be... The Beatles. No! Queen. Queen is my favourite band."
"Great answer! Not that I would judge you if you said, I don't know, Nickelback. Well, maybe a little. But, Bowie, Queen, The Beatles!" He's beaming. "Such inspirations. I'd love to meet Brian May some day..."
"People think that about you, don't they?" Of course, I know this is true through reading things online, but he thinks I know nothing about his band. It's going to stay that way.
"Yeah, they do, I guess. They usually thank me when they meet me, and then I thank them. We just thank each other."
We now sit in comfortable silence for a few seconds. He's probably fantasizing about meeting Brian May. I'm thinking about an idea I just got. "Hey, why don't you show me some of your music? I'm kinda curious."
And that's how it started. We spent the next few hours on the couch listening to every single song of My Chemical Romance's. We only stop so that Gerard can make us some sandwiches for a late dinner.

When I head upstairs it's nearly midnight.
"Night, Gerard. I had a great day. Thanks for everything." I say, hugging him tightly.
"Goodnight, Eve, and thank you, for being such a great kid." He says sincerely, looking me in the eye, a warm smile on his face. And, for the first time in a long time, I feel loved.
At the Millers' lights out was 10:30PM. The only act of rebellion I've ever really committed was all those times I stayed up reading until 1AM. No more of that. No more MCR fanfics, anyway, for I'm basically living my own. But, somehow, this is all really happening. I wonder how many times I'll have to remind myself.
The last thought I have before drifting off to sleep in my new bed, in my new room, is we never did finish that game of 20 questions.
