《Finding a Way | Adopted by Gerard Way》A Celebration of Sorts

When I wake up, the yellow of my curtains almost startles me until I remember where I am. I am in my new home. My name is Evelyn. Evelyn Way. It's 11:30AM. 11:30AM!? I've never slept in this long before! I guess yesterday was pretty eventful for me and I needed sleep after it all.
I can't help but realize that getting up this late means I missed breakfast.
Before I even roll out of bed I notice the voices coming from downstairs. Gerard, and a couple more people whose I don't recognize. Frank and Ray didn't come this early, did they? Well, I say early, but...
I guess there's no point in staying in bed any longer. Gerard might be wondering if I died in my sleep or something. So, I get up and get dressed in a black and red flannel and some light blue ripped jeans. They probably weren't made this way. I go in my bathroom and put my hair up in a bun, then brush my teeth. I didn't brush my teeth last night, did I? I brush them extra hard now.
Going down the stairs I catch a bit of Gerard and his friends' conversation.
"C'mon Gee, is she ever getting up?" Someone asks.
"Yeah, I wanna meet this kid! She seems pretty cool."
Upon seeing me on the stairs, Gerard smiles at me and says, "Alright guys, you don't have to wait any longer. She's alive!"
I immediately recognize Ray Toro. Gerard told me I'd know who is is by his hair and left it at that. I understand what he means now. "Hey, Evelyn, right? I'm Ray." He introduces himself politely. We shake hands. It's kinda awkward.
Next, Frank runs up to me and skips the handshake, straight-up hugging me and twirling me around once. "I can't believe I have a child!"
"Okay, Frank, nice to meet you too!" I laugh as he puts me down. He's shorter than the others, but still taller than me.
"She knows my name..." He says in wonder.
"I know everything." I decide not to try my evil laugh again.
"Yeah, and she also knows she's my child, Frankie, not yours. You can't keep her." Gerard tells him, half sternly, half jokingly.
I go to Frank and wrap my arms around him, "It's not a kidnapping if I'm on board with it!"

"Looks like you've been replaced, Gerard," Mikey pipes up. I didn't even realize he was here until this moment.
"Woah, when'd you get here?" I ask.
"I've been here this whole time!"
"Sure you have."
He throws his hands up as I laugh. "It's not like I can walk through walls!" He exclaims.
"Alright," Gerard cuts in, "never mind Mikey's ghost-like abilities, what should we do today? I was thinking have lunch and then we could go get you some stuff at the mall and pick up some pizza then come back here."
I take a breath, "Sounds good to me."
"We could watch a movie here tonight or something?" Ray suggests.
"Yeah," Gerard nods, "How do you like Star Wars, Evelyn?" Here we go...
"I've never seen it."
They all look at me incredulously. "You've been on this earth for 13 years and you've NEVER seen Star Wars!?" Frank asks in disbelief.
I shake my head.
"Alright, my first order of business as a father is that we watch Star Wars tonight." Gerard says. He's really serious about these movies, apparently.

"So we should go to Hot Topic, but let's not stick around there too long," Gerard says as we arrive at the mall and all pile out of his car. I've never been to this mall— or any mall, for that matter, but the only thought I have in my mind is Hot Topic?
"Hot Topic?" I voice my thoughts out loud.
"Oh, Evelyn, you're gonna love this," Frank grins as he grabs my hand and pulls me into the mall.
He was right. This is like... the physical embodiment of everything I love and more. There's even MCR merch.
I immediately gravitate toward the T-shirts and hoodies where I find a black Ziggy Stardust hoodie, a Queen T-shirt, and a cool looking galaxy one. I don't take anything off the rack. How much am I supposed to be getting? These are pretty expensive...
"Find anything you like, Evelyn?" Gerard asks me. I jump a bit as I didn't realize he was even behind me. "Woah, sorry!"
"Um, it's okay. And yeah, I kinda like these." I point out the tops I found on the rack.
"Grab 'em, Kiddo." He says brightly.
"Wait— all of them?" I ask surprised. I've never gotten more than one item at a time while shopping before. I can probably count all the times I've gone clothes shopping on one hand.

"Yeah, of course. Grab some jeans or something, too. And a pair of shoes." He points out the different sections of the store. "Get some accessories, too, if you want."
"Wow, um, okay. Are you sure? That seems like a lot."
"Yes, don't worry about it! I want you to have everything your heart desires, Kiddo. Go crazy!" He side hugs me.
At that moment I hear a little scream come from somewhere behind us, "Gerard Way?" A girl says.
"Oh my god, Mikey's over there too! And Frank and Ray!" Another girl exclaims.
They run up to us excitedly. They look like they've shopped here before. I just mind my own business as they hug each of the guys, gushing over the love of their music and thanking them profusely for everything they've done.
"Can we get a picture?" The girl with bright red hair asks.
"Yeah, sure," Rays says nicely and the others agree.
The other girl, this one with dark blue hair, taps my shoulder gently, "Sorry, would you mind taking a picture for us?" She asks politely, handing me her flip-phone.
"Y-yeah, sure," I say, making eye contact. Her eyes are brown and specked with... honey? How is that possible? When I take the phone from her hands our fingers brush lightly.
I take a few pictures to make sure I get a good one and hand her the phone back. "That last one's the best one, I think." I tell her, trying to make small talk.
"Thanks!" She smiles brightly. "The name's Emerald."
"Evelyn."
"C'mon Em, mom's waiting out in the car!" The other girl calls. She takes Emerald by the wrist as she smiles at me apologetically. I'll never be able to find the beautiful girl with blue hair again just by knowing the name "Emerald."
"This is why Gee said we shouldn't stick around too long," Mikey pulls me from my daze.
"Yeah," Frank agrees, "they're super nice and everything, but, you know..."
"Yeah." I say, replaying the moment I met Emerald's eyes in my head.

I ended up getting those two T-shirts, the hoodie, two pairs of black jeans (one ripped), and some black and white checked sneakers. Oh, and also a couple chokers and skull earrings. I told you, if I had the means I'd be the best looking bitch around, and now I do.
Before going back home we stop at some pizza place. When Gerard asks me what kind I want I just plaster on a smile say, "Doesn't matter to me." So they get two large pizzas; one deluxe and one pepperoni.
As soon as we get home we go straight to the living room to watch Star Wars. Ray puts the pizzas on the coffee table in front of us (nobody would let Frank carry them in case he dropped them).
"You ready for this, Evelyn?" Gerard asks me as he puts his arm around my shoulders, "I don't know I'll be able to cope if you don't like this movie."
"Why does it say episode four?" I ask as it starts.
"The first one is the fourth one and later they made the first three." Frank tries to explain. I just nod.
Half way through the movie half a pizza remains.
"You gonna have a slice, Evelyn?" Gerard asks.
"Oh, uh, yeah," I say, finally grabbing one. "I forgot. I'm just so invested in the movie.
When the movie is over, Gerard hops up off the couch, "I'll never get tired of Star Wars! I mean, I could watch the whole series every day. What did you think, Evelyn?"
"I liked it a lot," I say truthfully. "Really good. When are we gonna watch the next ones?"
"My child likes Star Wars, my life is complete." He hugs me. "But, good question."
"Ooo, we should have a movie night every Friday!" Frank exclaims. He's so... enthusiastic about everything. I like it.
That's what we decide on. A movie night every Friday.
I go to bed soon after, but the guys hang out for a little while longer. I can't help but think about how happy I am here. This isn't a traditional family. I mean, four band mates is nowhere near a traditional family, but it's my family. I love it already.

so I've only been to Hot Topic once (the closest one to me is in another country) so I'm not really an expert on it... let's just pretend the trip was realistic

Prime Magus of Earth
"In the beginning, I had no idea what was going on. My brother and friends were gone, my sight was gone, and yet I still saw things, things about this world that no one else knew. I'm not special, or gifted, anyone could have done what I did. I just got lucky, especially after everything that happened afterwards. Magic already existed, it always had. Humans just didn't know how to do it, didn't know how to nuture that small spark in them. Now you do." - Prime Magus of Earth, Alexander Sorin. November 2021 Update: So, it has been four years since I stopped working on this. Reading back, the first "book" is finished. It has what feels like an ending to an arc. Now it isn't a perfect story but I still like it and I can see myself starting the second book, might even this on Amazon or something. My biggest regret was never coming up with artwork for the cover though. Maybe I'll look into it.
