《Chasing the nerd ✓》Chapter 12|Noah

I'm not gonna lie, I enjoyed that! Made me grin like a fool the rest of the day gaining weird looks from people but it was so worth it!
Did she actually liked me though? Seemed like it, given that she was practically numb when I teased her earlier but I still had my doubts. What can I say I'm a suspicious king of guy! With a hell of self-control that I didn't know that I had. I was so close to just grab her and kiss the hell out of her but somehow I managed to control my urges. I couldn't exactly decide if I was happy or disappointed with that decision and that said a lot.
The rest of the day passed in a blink of an eye and I found myself outside of Dan's office. I lightly clear my throat for his secretary to notice me. She slowly raised her sight and smiled politely at me.
"Ah, Mr. Cooper. We have been waiting for you. Here take this." She handed me a keycard with my name on it. Apparently I was official included in the company's stuff. "You'll need the keycard to have full access in the building. Now Mr. Brody waits for you to show you your office."
"My what?" I said dumbfounded pushing my glasses up my nose out of awkwardness.
"Well, your office of course. You are currently placed next door as your job entails a close co-operation with Mr. Brody." She said plainly like she'd done this a thousand times before.
I, on the other hand, felt like the luckiest son of a bitch of all time. I mean, come on! My own office! Don't tell me that's not something big!
"Thank you, um.., Mrs. Dawn." I said looking the keycard clipped on her shirt to check her name.
"Linda, please." she said politely "Now go in, he's expecting you." I nodded and walked right at Dan's door feeling nervous. I knocked lightly and when I heard him say come in I opened the door.
His eyes lighted up when he saw me.
"Ah, Noah. My protégé. Welcome!" he said smiling widely. He stood up and shook my hand.
"I see Linda gave you the keycard. Now let me show you your office so you can start right away. As you can see the work has piled up!" He said pointing at his desk which was a mess of scatted paperwork all over.

As we were about to leave a man came in. He was wearing a black suit with a matching tie and a blue shirt underneath it that looked quite expensive. He was really tall and thin, with not a single hair on his head. He was at his mid-fifties and seemed in a rush.
"Danny... oh, excuse me I didn't realize you had company." He said when his eyes met mine. I felt a shiver down my spine when he scanned me with those pitch black eyes through his round glasses. Scary dude, I'll tell you that much.
"Uncle Jeffry let me introduce you to Noah Cooper. Newest member of our stuff. He is going to help me now that dad is overseas." Dan said and patted my shoulder.
The bald guy took a good look at me and I wanted to jump out my own skin. He made me feel that uncomfortable. After a long minute that seemed to last a decade he shook my hand.
"Pleasure to meet you." He said with a low steady voice. I swear to god I heard it kind of snake-ish. The way you expect Voldemort would talk like. Maybe it's my imagination that runs wild but my instincts were screaming at me to keep away from this guy.
"You too." I managed to say and put my poker face on keeping my expression as blank as possible.
"Did you need something?" Dan said breaking the silence.
"Nothing major. Don't mind me. I'll come back later. Well, I'll leave you two to it." With that he nodded at us and left.
"That was our Vice President, in case you are wondering. He is dad's closest partner and holds about the 40% shares of our company." Dan said as we were walking down the hall to get to my office. Wow, it seems surreal to even think that I actually have an office.
"Is he really your uncle?" I asked before I could stop myself.
Dan laughed out loud and I felt stupid as fuck.
"No, no. but because he was always by dad's side and we practically grew up with him we are used to call him uncle."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry..." I said but he waved his hand carefree.

"Nonsense. You did no such thing. So what do you think?" he opened a door and I got to look my office for the first time. It was perfect. Sharing a floor with Mr. boss-man has its perks. The view of the harbor it's incredible through that major window wall just behind my desk. It's quite simple, a wide mahogany rectangle desk and a matching bookcase on the side of the room. I'm speechless nevertheless.
"Looks great. Thank you."
"You can thank me later. Now let's get to work."
The first hour passed really quickly as Dan explained to me all about the invoices and the money transactions I have to monitor and put on a database to keep track. He told me a little more about the ships, their conditions and their maintenance status. Which is really important because people's lives are at stake so he informed there is no room for mistakes here.
I didn't say much the whole training session. I just kept my face blank and unreadable because I didn't want him to know I was so nervous I was sweating out of my ass. It's one thing to study for these things, a whole other to actually work with them.
Dan eventually left for his office after he squished my shoulder for encouragement.
I couldn't tell how much time has passed when I heard the light knock on my door. I tried to smooth my hair that was messed up from all the frustrated pulls and placed my glasses on my face.
"Come in."
"Hey. How is it going?" Dan says as his head is peeking through the door.
"Good, I guess." I answer stacking a bunch on papers in front of me.
"You look terrible." He says smirking and comes in. he has changed for some reason and now wears a black tuxedo, a white shirt and a bowtie. What the hell? He has his own dressing room here?
"Thanks." I say with a dead-pan expression. I push back all the snarky comments I have in mind because, let's face it, he is my boss.
"So anyway, I think you're done for the day. Go home and get some rest. Thanks to you I'll be able to attend to this fundraiser."
I stand up and tidy up a little before picking my phone and shove it in my pants.
We go out of my office and start heading to the elevator.
"Goodnight Linda." He says politely to his secretary.
"You too, sir. Have fun tonight. Goodnight Mr. Cooper." She says and smiles at me.
"Noah, please. You too!" it's so weird to be referred as a mister. I mean, come on now!
She nods smiling and turns her attention to her desk once more, assuming she gathers her stuff.
"So big night tonight?" I ask Dan to break the uncomfortable silence as we wait for the elevator.
He sighs a bit tired and pushes back his hair.
"Some charity event I have to go to. Nothing special. To be frank I would rather have a couple of beers watching Netflix."
Ah, yes. The poor little rich man... but for some reason I believe him. We go into the elevator and start our way down.
"Seems a bit plain for you." I say and he laughs.
"Well, given that this is the first night I don't have to work in weeks I wanted just to relax and don't think about numbers or ships."
"So, no girl?" I'm sorry, I'm curious. I can't believe he doesn't have a girl. He is rich and good-looking, there's no way. Plus I'm fairly certain it's in his genes judging by his sister and her male harem.
"Long story, my friend. The kind of story that needs alcohol. Maybe some other time I'll tell you all about it over drinks."
"I don't know what kind of help I could be to you, but sure." I say shrugging. He pats my shoulder once more and we get out of the elevator and walk to the glass doors of the building. I can see a huge black limo parked out front.
As we step out the chauffer opens the back door of the limo and I see a pair of long legs peeking out.
Oh dear Lord, have mercy!
