《Two Hikers》Chapter 3 Part 1

Me, Ryan, Alex and Steph are all sat at the bar in the Lantern just looking at each other while Steph tries to process what we've just told her. I mean I get it, it's a lot to take in.
"You two have superpowers. You're all fucking with me right." I guess this is to be expected.
"Do we look like the fucking with you type. It's all true." Thank god Alex is taking over as I don't think I would be able to.
"Fine, tell me what I'm feeling right now." Steph says with slight annoyance in her voice.
"You're feeling disbelief" Really Ryan. What makes it worse is the fact he used jazz hands.
Me and Alex focus on Steph and her emotions "You're actually a little annoyed" I state having a feeling Alex will take over. "You feel hurt that we didn't tell you until now, whether it's true or not, you don't like being left out."
There is a few moments of silence, the only sound being mild chatter from the lantern. "Well, okay. Oh shit the foosball game you knew exactly what to do." And now I'm lost but I'm guessing Alex helped Steph in some way.
"You needed to focus on the positive memories, not get lost in the bad ones" I guess that makes sense and was a good thing for Alex to do.
"Never thought I'd have freaky empath friend, pretty wild." A lot of people would say different but I'm glad they're both okay with it.
Ryans posture changed with the topic, "so, any sign of Diane today?" "No, but she was in yesterday working on her laptop." Probably something to take the blame off Typhon.
"You said she was afraid of something around Gabe's death. If she's covering up what Typhon did, I bet there's proof." Steph you're a genius.

"God I hope so, it's what we need at the moment." We really need this. "If she comes in today let's be ready with a plan. In the meantime we have to finish our shifts."
I grab the cloth and spray to clean the tables up. And Alex is going to get the dirty dishes around the bar.
Moving around some tables and wiping them down and Jed stops me to tell me about the quarters in the register so I decide to leave a note for Alex to do them;
I start to make my way to the back to wipe some tables down and sort out the pool table. As I'm sorting it out the jukebox music changes, wait I know that song, ALABASTER DAYDREAMS, that's it.
As I walk back out into the main area the bell jingles signifying someone just entered and its... Diane. It's now or never.
I make my way over to Ryan and Steph and see Alex doing the same thing. "Okay she's here, what's the plan?" Alex asks the two.
Ryan answers but not with an answer I was expecting. "Well, we have two plans actually, but, we're still workshopping them."
"Okay it's good to have options right. So what are they?" These better be good or I swear to god.
Steph goes first, "Okay so here's what I'm thinking, I ask Diane out on a date," okay what. "And she's so into it she doesn't notice one Ryan Lucan wiping her laptop, Ryan carries said laptop upstairs acquiring damning evidence. Maybe Diane and I still hook up, not important."
"That's your plan..." Alex says with a little giggle thinking Steph was joking, realising she's not she turns to Ryan "Oh my god please tell me you have something better" I hope he does.

"Now to be clear it's the same plan, except I'm the distraction" he turns to Steph when he says gas to prove a point I'm guessing. "Look Steph I don't even think she's gay alright, she's probably into the rugged mountain man type, most transplants are." Ok he's not wrong but still.
"Ok I am genuinely worried these are the best ideas you had but I want in. I'll be put into this vote of who distracts her." Boost my confidence a bit.
"See! It's a simple plan literally two steps you just have to choose the hotter distraction." And at this we all turn to Alex seeing as she's the tie breaker.
She takes notice and immediately stats shaking her head but she has no choice and Ryan tells her that. "You're the only tie breaker we have. So, who's it going to be?"
She looks at us three one by one and the next but is music to my ears. "Lets go with Evelyn, long blonde hair is bound to get her attention." HELL YEAH "In your faces"
"Look, I appreciate the... the effort. But e don't even know if she has anything worth stealing yet. I'm just gonna try talking to her, maybe I can get her worked up and read her emotions. I'll let you know if I need that distraction."
All we can say I good luck and off she goes. As Alex is over there me, Ryan and Steph engage in small talk but I put my phone on the bar to see if a notification comes through from Alex.
"How does it feel to know I'm better looking than both of you?" I can't help but gloat and Ryan said something that made my heart skip a beat, literally. "I mean she isn't wrong." AAAAGGGHHHHHH.
I don't know what to do so I just grab them both a new beer from under the bar. And as I put them down my phone buzzed, it's from Alex.
I show the two infant of me and I look to Alex, she gives a subtle nod and that's my cue. "Knock her dead" Steph says as I leave.
I end up next to Diane and ready myself for what's to come. "Hey Diane." "Oh hey Evelyn, how are you?" I ignore the question and just go right for it. "So, what's your deal?" "I'm sorry?" "Are you single? Semi single? Taken but still down to get drunk and make-out?" I can't help but internally shiver but also wonder where this is coming from.
A blush appears on her face and from the corner of my eye I can see Alex giggle and then try to reach for something in Dianes bag. But Diane turns to her and asks "Am I blushing?" Yes, yes you are so well done to me.
"Yeah, I could see your cheeks from space." Way to make it better Alex. "Really good look for me, great." Diane then turns back to me and continues "I am so flattered, I don't even know what to say."
Oh god think. "Hey no sweat, just think about it and get back to me, I'm not going anywhere." Alex got what she wanted so I got out of there.
So we left Diane confused as we all go up the stairs to Alex's apartment.

An Infinite Recursion of Time
I always wanted to be taken to another world, and as they say, there are no atheists in the foxhole that we call real life. I prayed, and prayed, and prayed until one day, I opened my eyes to see my dream had come true. I also saw the axe of an orc bearing down on my skull. You win some, you lose some. A time-loop fantasy story written after getting into litRPGs a bit. I wondered what it would be like if I just went and wrote a story about all the things I liked in web fiction without holding back: time loops, RPG stats, certain character archetypes, and harems played straight. Please be warned of lewd descriptions and depraved sexualization. If nothing else, this will be a sincere work. Starchild
“It’s life’s illusions I recall. I really don’t know life at all.” from the song, Both Sides Now, by Joni Mitchell Starchild is an adventure novel set within an understanding of reality that is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions. It takes as its starting point experiments in remote viewing that were genuinely undertaken by the American military in the nineteen-nineties under the name of the Stargate Project. It then imagines how a more advanced attempt to weaponise the capabilities of consciousness might have been developed in the present day.The story then explores how Ultimate Reality might respond to such a threat.Deep, elemental forces thus bring together Samantha Martin and Sahadeva Varma, old colleagues from the Stargate Project, to avert the apocalyptic consequences of this military attempt to weaponise consciousness. This fast-paced story spans genres including romance, action, adventure, science fiction and more. Although this story is based on concepts drawn from established spiritual traditions, these have sometimes been extrapolated to the point of very extreme speculation for the needs of an adventure story.Much of the underlying philosophy, however, as explained in the dharma talks given by Samantha Martin, is paraphrased from the guidance of respected spiritual teachers. Scheduling: Starchild is a previously unpublished novel of one hundred thousand words which was serialised in weekly instalments over twenty-five weeks from 15th November 2021 to the 29th April 2022. Each instalment contains five chapters – an average of approximately four thousand words in each instalment.
